Watching them use a wire wheel on the rack, using so much effort to remove old rust. Instead, use a 50/50 mix of water and plain old white vinegar. Let the metal sit for several days. The rust just disintegrates, right down to the microscopic level, and falls off. Caked on rust? Use gravel or bb's and shake the aggregate over the object several times a day. You will be shocked how effortless and effective this works. Better than any grinding wheel. It does not affect the chrome or paint. Just need to wash off the clean metal with soap and water (to remove the vinegar acid) and put a coat of linseed oil or rust preventative on it.
There was a place back in the 80s and 90s that sold Swiss surplus military bikes that were identical to ww2 German except in minor details. They werent cheap.
