  • In this video I answer a few questions I've been asked a lot since the start of the 865 project.
How much does it cost to do the conversion?
    Is fuel consumption affected?
And thee ultimate question, is it worth it?

What a wise motorcyclist, he did the mods , shared the info but at the same time stated that its not worth it if others want to do it since cost is too high for increase in performance. What more can you expect from a good moto video. Great location and music🎉🎉

Excellent video although I was almost too overwhelmed by the beauty of the scenery to absorb the commentary. I agree that it’s not worth it if you’re doing the upgrade strictly for the performance advantage. For me it was more about the education and the opportunity to understand my bike better and truly make it mine. It’s why I bought the Interceptor in the first place but I can’t imagine investing that much time and money in another bike. Still, I’m glad I did it. (And thanks for including the dogs at the end. They made my day.)

Your journey and conclusions on your 865cc have been very interesting. Your extremely balanced and thoughtful even-handed insights are far too rare on CZcams.
I always thought I might do this myself but I find (with some modifications) I love the Interceptor just how she is.
    Thank you.
PS... You mention possible suspension upgrades. Can I recommend what I now have ... Nitron R1s and TVT Cartridges. It transforms the bike and the faster you go the better it gets. It is honestly the best suspension I have ever ridden on.

Thank you very much for your kind words! Yes, the Interceptor is a great bike as it is. I will take a look at the suspension upgrades you suggested! Thanks again!

Hello K., Fred in Virginia, USA. The "750" kit on my 2020 Interceptor has 2,000 miles since I installed it in the Spring. The cost of the kit plus machining, parts and the out-the-door cost of the bike in May of 2020 ($5,949) totals right at $7,400 so it was definitely worth it for me. This includes the S&S camshaft and a full stainless-steel exhaust system that I bought in 2021. There is no added vibration, it is running cool on mid-80's days; I monitor both cylinder head temperature and oil temperature. The difference in power gives the bike SO much more rideability, don't have to downshift for hills like before. This kit along with upgrading the suspension make a great bike out of an already decent one. Not the easiest big-bore kit ever but very much worthwhile if a person has the tools and know-how. As you said; no difference in fuel consumption, the engine has an easier job and pulls strongly with very little throttle needed to move down the road.

You’re the first one I’ve heard of who went for the 750 kit. It makes obvious sense since that’s the displacement of the original Interceptor.

@@blazesboylan7947 I had script made for my sidecovers that mimics the original "750 Interceptor", wish I could post pictures. I bought two of the 750 big bore kits, selling my 865cc Triumphs because they seem slow and heavy now...

Hey aFrederick, nice job. Tempting. 9:33 So, can You comment on whether he 750 option needs the clutch upgrade?

    • @frederickwoods5943
      @frederickwoods5943 Před rokem +3

@@collyernicholasjohn if you are using the added displacement for rideability, no. If the bike is going to be beaten, ridden very aggressively or used in competition; yes. I may install the Rekluse standard clutch when I replace my oil pump chain but at 50,000 kms (31,000 miles) the clutch barely shows any wear.

@@frederickwoods5943 cheers for responding! Now I’ve got the air filter and headers/exhausts sorted the cam/750 makes more sense, to me, than the cam/865/clutch option.

Thanks for sharing the information for many of guys to buy with confidence. it seems that if you are not from US or Europe, building this is as expensive as buying the motorcycle again which leads to buying a Ducati Monster 800 c.c. XDDD sadly but true.

Dyno tune is cheap in Euros €250 in NZ 🇳🇿 Dyno tune can cost between $800-$1000 but probably cause less people do it & only in bigger cities.
