I haven't missed a single lesson since I found your U tube videos half way through the Book of Mormon. Jared, Thank you so much for taking so much time going through every verse you possibly can. I am so excited for the New Testament this year ❤️
Brother Jared, English is my second language, and I can say that you are teaching by the Spirit and the beauty of it, is that I understand by the Spirit. It is because of the New Testament and what I learn from it over 40 years ago that made me joing the Church, now with your help and knowledge I am able to learn even more, words cannot express how great full I am! Merci Beaucoup!
I have to tell Brother Halverson that if I wasn't a crust ready for the grave, I would love to be a seminary instructor like you. You just totally inspire me to the core. Your passion when you teach, I am called to teach Sunday School to the adults in Spanish of all things. This is my first adult calling after teaching in primary for 40 years. Thank you for your passion. You deserve the Nobel Prize.
We found you half the way through the Old Testament and our hearts and minds have been opened. We love each lesson and the understanding we gain from your expertise and love of the Gospel. Thank you so very much for your Love of The Gospel.
“It’s not just what He DOES… it’s who He IS.” ❤❤
Haha! I also am a survivor of Brother Robinson’s final exam! He was such an amazing instructor! It was the first time scripture had become engaging to me and I wanted more. I feel the same way learning with you. Thank you for all your time and sacrifice.
I shared the part about Mark Strauss's book and Matthews version of Jesus and how Christianity really came from Judaism with my family 15 yrs down to 7. Their minds were all blown, including my husband's. I have never understood that and I am so excited to understand it! My 15 year old and 13 year old and 9 year old actually understood it and loved it. Now my 15 year old wants to start listening to JHal 😂 and is so excited about it. I love new gospel knowledge at 39. I am a new gospel doctrine teacher and this has been so helpful to help me understand what I'm teaching.
Bro Halverson this stuff really spiritually feeds me. Thanks 🙏☮️🕊️🕉️🏳️😊👍 big guy!
I also love the Chosen! Truly inspired!!
I loved learning all about the genealogy of Jesus and the purpose for including it. Thank you ❤
Thank you for the great work you are doing. You have brought the scriptures to life for me for the first time in my life.
Your lessons are priceless! Thank you so much.
Good afternoon, I am so glad to be here with you all. As for you, Brother Halverson, you can make the choir, and funny that you mention the Chosen, personally I feel Dallas was inspired to produce the Chosen for a reason, this strengthens my testimony to our truths of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through the Chosen I have grown to love my Savior even more, and the disciples. We get to know their lives are no more different than ours, the struggles in marriage, missionary work, illnesses you name it, yet we grow a bond with Chirst and his followers. Thank you again for your hard work and for bringing the scriptures to life.
Thank you, Bro. Halverson!
So much powerful information!
I’m writing as fast as I can and taking so many screen shots! Love the visual aids!!! Thank you thank you thank you💝💖💝
So happy to hear from you this early in the morning and see we are in the New Testament,
Enjoying each Video ❤️📖🙏
I took 3 pages of notes!!!! I learned SO much! Thank you! I am SO excited! Cindy in Snowy Minnesota!!
Thank you for your lessons! I love them and they get me through difficult tines. And I am finally understanding the scriotures 🎉❤
Loved the insight into the purpose and persuasiveness of including the four women in the genealogy of the Saviour! Even I had previously noted that His lineage included Samson coming from David and Bethsheba, and was surprised that it included that difficult and well known history, but this gives a much fuller understanding of the inspiration of Matthew in including them in his message to his Jewish audience.
I am so excited to what I will be learning this year. Thanks for the help.
So excited to study The New Testament with you! Thank you!
I knew about the Apocrypha. I didn't have any idea what was in it, but was VERY interested to know. Thank you for last week's lesson
love you 💕 brother 💗 i love to hear all your teachings...
Brother Halverson, I got my copy of The Life of Christ. It’s amazing! Thank you for another year with us. Thank you for the most beautiful service as a disciple of Jesus Christ. You’re amazing. Will always pray for you to be preserved and blessed in all things. Happy New Year!
Of all the Come Follow Me lessons available on line, yours is my favorite. I love your insight. I'm so excited for this new year. ❤️
I agree 100%
Me too!
+1! Agree with you! Love these lessons 💞
My favorite Gospel is the Gospel of John, and referring to John as an eagle enhanced the context at which I look at what John wrote. As to the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, the video Brother Halverson bequeathed to us has greatly enhanced my understanding and how it fits into the overall narrative of the New Testament. My desire is that any comments I share, are not seen as esoteric or gnostic, but lenses that enhance possibilities, and taken as opinion which I share. I am not a scholar, but rather a student who might have a facet unnoticed by others that may magnify the understanding of other students.
With that said, I invite listeners, readers, scholars, etc., to look at the Gospel of John as a letter written to the returning tribes of Isreal of the reality that the Gospel of Jesus the Christ has been restored. I see it as an allegory. I hope to be able to share, in this forum, as the chapters are presented. Consider the first verse of the Gospel of John and the last verse of the Gospel of John as being chiastic in nature.
Thank you for your reply. Tetramorph is a new concept to me, and has enhanced my understanding.
This is going to be an interesting year for me, in the past I've always read the New testament all the way up to and through the crucifixion but that's where I stop. My heart has always been so filled with sadness that I just didn't want to hear anything else. I have red and studied Revelations but that's about it my heart and my mind are open this year to go through the whole book in hopes that I can grow and learn from those chapters and books that I would not read. I love the savior with everything I have and I'm blessed to know him personally. Off we go!!
Thank you very much. You explained so clear of Joseph, he was so obedient to accept Mary as his wife with faith, passion, love not fear 😍👏
I think it is an interesting thought to read the gospels from the point of their being a celebratory set of announcements to the world rather than what many try to do with them, that being trying to prove the existence of Jesus through these proclamations. The feelings evoked from this approach can be very powerful and deeply convincing.
Brother Halverson, so glad I literally stumbled upon your Unshaken… Really enjoying Come Follow Me…The scriptures have come alive to me in such an exciting and most interesting way that I would never have realised if not for you…So starting late early May but have gone back to the years beginning with the apostate 400 years and Maccabees… So powerful…I never new of this connection as such and just how important the Old Testament and the 400 years leading onto Matthew are so profoundly connected…Returning after years of inactivity you and your teachings of Jesus are a boon to me a salve and an exciting new beginning…I have hope and and belief and a growing peace…at last…Thank you ❤
I loved your story of your Jonathan that was really Jacob. When we were in the hospital and my wife was delivering our firstborn, we had narrowed the name choice down to a couple (William Andrew, a family name I've always loved, or Ethan Andrew, which we just liked). They were asking us to fill out the paperwork for the state/county prior to her delivering, and I went to write William Andrew as his name, and I just stopped and looked at my wife and said, "His name is Jonathan. Jonathan Riley." We had never even talked about either one of those names, but we felt immediate and extreme confirmation that was right, so I wrote it down and we never looked back. It was a great testimony to me that God knows each of us individually and we have our own eternal identity.
@@juliemiller8168 I won't pretend to understand fully why our names here in this life would be so important, but I can't deny the impression and confirmation I received. It was just powerful evidence to me that God knows each one of us on a personal level, and He cares about my son enough to make sure he was properly named for whatever purpose that will serve.
Happy new year! May God bless us all with more faith, and an even greater desire and commitment to continue to help build His kingdom on earth, and prepare for the coming of our Savior, Jesus the Christ.
Greetings from sunny Arizona. I have taught the Old Testament several times so I am reasonably familiar with the stories of Tamar, Ruth, 'the wife of Urias', and Rahab. Tying them to Marry is perfect. This is the best explanation of the genealogy in Matthew 1 that I have ever heard!!! Just AMAZING. Thank you!! If students haven't seen this part, start at 1 hour and 8 seconds.
It now makes sense to me that we have so little knowledge of Jesus' life as a child and young man. I had no idea the gospels were written after the fact, as it were, by men who probably only knew Him as an adult. Thank you for giving me a better understanding of Joseph. I'm glad I'm not in a physical class setting with you. So often I end up with tears streaming down my face as truth unfolds.
Heavenly Father answered my prayers by stumbling on your videos from The Book of Mormon. My mind has expanded further with spiritual knowledge. I'm more confident speaking to others about the Gospel. So thank you Jared for your service to us.
I love your ending about your children and if we could see each other with that fuller knowledge of who we are. Thank you. I have a big picture of Mary in the chapel my husband built me in the garden. I don't worship her but I do admire her and want to be like her in my love and devotion of the Lord. I want to be a sister scriptorian too. I love that we have the scriptures about the birth of Christ. Thank you for your delightful diligence.
Thank you for this I learned so very much! I’m so grateful for you and your wisdom and your knowledge which is a gift from above.😊
Never thought I could learn such a profound lesson from Joseph putting her away privily. What you've taught has been an answer to many long nights of weeping and prayer. God bless you, Brother Halverson.
I’ve been an unshaken saint since day one! I found you as I was sewing masks for the church. I haven’t missed a week! What a gift!! I consider my scripture programs the greatest of pandemic gifts. God does work in mysterious ways ❤️
Thank you for these beautiful lessons. They inspire, teach and uplift, they make my brain work! Thank you ❣️
So looking forward to a new year with you and the New Testament. Love the introduction you gave and now into the books of Matthew and Luke! Also would like to make mention a book that brings tears to my eyes every time I read from it that was written by Charles Edward Jefferson, an American Congregational Clergyman, called "The Character of Jesus." (Copyright, 1908, first published in 1968 by Parliament Publishers in Salt Lake City, Utah.) It is discourses delivered in the Broadway Tabernacle on the Sunday evenings between January 1st and Easter of the winters of 1907 and 1908. The language at that time is so eloquent that I don't believe Jesus' character could be described any better. Truly a masterpiece.
Your explanation about the genealogy was so interesting, thank you, I am looking forward to studying the New Testament with you this year.
I love the feeling I get when I hear these lessons and especially how I feel when I read by myself afterward with greater light, greater understanding and joy. Oh am I the only one who can’t find PART 2?
I saw part 2, but I often have trouble finding the CFM videos that I want to watch. Any suggestion as to how to make my search easier?
@@b1of4bs tap on the Subscribe icon and unshaken will be part of your subscriptions in CZcams so you don't have to go searching for brother Halverson's videos
Thank you so much Jared. I have been very alone in my faith amongst my family. Your videos have brought me such comfort that I am not alone. God bless you and your efforts.❤️
I really enjoy how you bring in otherlangue groups to explain this selection of scripture beginings
I haven't been regularly watching your videos, but I need to try to watch them more this year. I tend to struggle with studying the scriptures, and I learn better from listening to the scriptures. I do need to do better with studying the scriptures.
Based on the commandment given to the early Restoration Saints to keep a record (D&C 21:1), I think it is possible that the Savior gave instructions to some of his early disciples to “take notes” during His ministry that became the source material for the Gospel writers as they wrote their testimonies 20+ years later.
I agree especially considering the then existence of written Torah, why would their not be an understanding of the value of written "notes"?
Your insights make The Chosen even more interesting.
Jared, I just paused 1:55:04 into your video to thank you for your generosity in sharing such sacred pearls with us. I know the Spirit of The Lord is directing possibly even to you wondering whether or not you want to share at certain points. I’ve been there ;). So whether that is actually the case or not. I feel I’ve been standing on sacred ground here. And I wanted to stop and acknowledge it. My shoes are off. They have been from the beginning, even before you told us yours were (the Lord gave me a head’s up;) This is a Big Deal. I feel the vulnerability and the willingness of your heart for the Lord’s sake and for His work to go forth in such a way as this. It’s so beautifully done. Thank you. There’s more, but I’ll leave it the Spirit to breathe it into your heart. It feels like Christmas here. Or maybe Christmas Eve, which is on so many levels MORE because of the anticipatory magic. Anyway, … Merry Christmas. 🎄I’m hoping i’ll get to finish these before Christmas comes this year. It’s just inside a week before Thanksgiving today. We’ll see what the Lord has in store. 🙏 INN the meantime …
Thanks for assisting me , to connect dots .
Have always loved Joseph's willingness to take Mary to wife, even before he knew the full story. A good and just man, his not caring what people thought of him, but what God thinks, an apt example for us all.
He's one of the people I look forward to sitting and talking with in the next world.
I enjoy your channel so much! Thank you! So looking forward to this year of study of the NT with you.
Thank you
Hello from sunny, and warm South Alabama. My daughter was in your Institute class in Nashville several years ago .She still talks about how much she enjoyed learning the gospel from you. I can see why. I am looking forward to learning also. I enjoyed the intro to the NT from you. I am looking forward to this lesson! Thabk you for shating your knowledge and love of the scriptures.
I have a folder for the O.T full of your comments and quotations of others that you inserted in your lessons. So if you say it has been a study of 200 hours, for me it was like 400 hours. Pleeease insert sub titles. And by the way, I´m so grateful to the Lord to have found you and Unshaken. THANKS FOR EVER.
This was absolutely fascinating to me...as all your lessons are, but WOW!
Early gang. Gunna watch this before church :)
Jared,
Discovered your site over Christmas. Such an insight into those scriptures that sail over my head, so a BIG Thank you.
Your deliver is in sync with how my brain works, so definitely will be tuning in each lesson.
Also, don't stop the tongue-in-cheek jokes.
Grateful thanks from across the Pond. :)

I am a big fan from Pa. I told my inactive son we are on the NT and he should listen too. He replied, "I will only listen if your guy can read the NT in Greek and has studied Classics. As for me, I don't give a hoot if you can or has done either. Keep plugging, you are doing 👍.
1:09:30 The Book of Mormon actually does have a genealogy to open the oldest book in it. The Book of Ether begins with Ether’s genealogy. I realize that doesn’t come at the beginning of the entire volume, but it is still very Jewish to include it.
Thanks
I still have your colored bookmarks in my scriptures! 19 years later...!
Have you heard of the book “Jesus Said “ compiled by Blake Roney, Gary Brassfield and J Robert Walz? It’s a compilation of the Savior’s own words from the New Testament, Book of Mormon and Pearl of Great Price published in 2012. An additional book is “The life of the Savior” with JS translations, compiled in 2010. Both by Rockshire Publishing. I received them as a gift a few years ago and have loved them.
Thanks for all you teach us each week!!
Hermano muchas gracias por la preparación que nos dio Antea de empezar el Nuevo Testamento. Me fascina la historia religiosa! Ojalá que pudieras hacerlo en español también!😁
Feliz Año y nuevamente gracias por enseñarnos!
Wow, brother Halverson, so meaty in this current environment of spiritual hunger and starvation. Thanks brother
Hi Hno, plz add CLOSED CAPTION. It’s timely to rewind sentences. I’m a faithful student & haven’t missed any videos. I’ve enjoyed a video w/you & hna Halverson plus your talented daughter’s too!
My 22-year d’ter started her mission in Nov. There’s been trials & your b’ful wife’s story is inspiring to us.
I pray for you, your missionary son & your patient family. Forever grateful 😊
The entire transcript is available with a timestamp that you can follow along.
Remember, you can be just as off in things too and you are in some because you are learning as well.face-blue-smiling
I really really liked the lessons last week. I took an evening class in ancient history at a community college in MD several years ago hoping to get some historical background for the Old Testament (it wasn’t a religion class) but the class was a total disappointment. I learned more in your classes last week than in that whole semester. Also just want to say that the historical background you provide is so helpful to context of the scriptures. Thank you. I’m hooked (subscribed!)
Also Happy New Year
Thanks so much for that intro
What makes you think we’re not history nerds too? It’s one of the things I like most about yourvideos
Also, thank you. I love your presentation of the lessons and the background, and of quality. Have you ever thought of going into teaching 🤔...? 😆 Looking forward to your insights this year. P.S. Your thoughts on Thomas Wayment's New Testament for Latter Day Saints? It seems very close to the ESV in methodology.
Thank you so much for your content, I teach Gospel Doctrine and your videos help me so much in my study and preparation to teach.
Is there a way to contact you about specific questions we have? There's one lesson in the new testament I'm nervous about teaching later in Luke and I'm wondering if you might be willing to help.
Even as Luke was described by Joseph….We as Latter Day Saints may be😇❤️
Wonderful! And thank you for sharing the 365 Daily Scripture Reading Chart as part of your 2023 introductory podcast. Is there a version of that chart that includes the Pearl of Great Price? Many thanks!
The symbols of the Lion, Ox, Man, and Eagle are usually found on the lectern in the Catholic Church or in a mural in the sanctuary.
These are also the symbols on the flags or banners of the lead tribes that set camp around the traveling Tabernacle of Moses. Each of the 12 tribes surrounding the Tabernacle had their own banner, with their own symbol. However, one tribe was assigned to be the lead tribe in each cardinal direction.
Judah to the East (Lion), Ephraim to the West (Ox), Ruben to the South (Man), Dan to the East (Eagle).
See Numbers 2:1-3, 39
Can we have the caption turned back on please?? Hard of hearing here. Its important to have the caption mode. Thank you Bro. Helverson.
Thanks for your great knowledge you share with us. After another Christmas celebration I tend to
stop and ponder on this: What happened to the Glory of the babe in the Manger? Such a great event celebrated seemed to be recognized by many. Then Jesus was hid from Hared the Great. It seems like there would be followers and believers that was wondering...where did he go? WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT BABY WHO WE CAME TO SEE IN THE MANGER. THE ONE WHOM WAS SAID TO BE CHRIST. THE SAVIOR? How could the people forget of such an event? But then it seems no one said more about him nor was watching for him to do his thing. How can I go about studying more on this thought?
01:05:00 Oh, wow! I hope I can present the parallel to Restoration deniers this well, between early Christian Jews and their deniers, with our Church and those who claim we are in the wrong!
Jared, when you are not using the KJV, which version are you using? The other one you use helps a lot.
Of all those books behind you, which is your favorite?
Also check first half is introduction.
Hello Brother Halvorson. Thank you for your scriptural expertise and enlivening delivery.
In your lesson you describe the JST of "The Gospel According to St Luke" as "The Testimony of Luke."
My research of JST ("The Complete JST of the New Testament", Wayment, Deseret Book, 2005) shows that "The Gospel According to St Matthew" (and John) were in fact changed to "The Testimony of St Matthew" and "The Testimony of John". "The Gospel According to St Luke" (and Mark) remain intact.
Can you please clarify?
Thanks again.
I don’t fully understand the argument the Anti-Mormon was making at (1:09:05) and the claim that Brother Halverson somewhat affirms, in that ancient Hebrew texts had to usually start with some form of genealogy. From what I can tell from looking at the Old Testament, which was originally written in Ancient Hebrew, the only book that starts with any meaningful amount of Genealogy is ‘1 Chronicles’ and the rest of the Old Testament books either don’t start with any ancestry at all or start with very little (like “the word of the Lord came unto “____” the son of “____” and said…”) So, was it really a rule that ancient Hebrew texts had to start with genealogy? It seems to me that Nephi declared as much genealogy as most Old Testament writers by simply saying that his father was Lehi. Hope my question makes sense! 💛
Can you talk about "Higher Critics", Lower Critics" that helped to decide what was entered into the cannaonization of scriptures? How we got what we got!
The four Gospel writers have one of the four personalities. Matthew is a Guardian, Mark is an Experiencer, Luke is an Idealist, and John is a Rational.
What is the narrative on Mark CZcams video called please. I'd love to watch it. Was hoping you might put a link to it here. Love your videos Bro Hal. I note them in my journal every day- it takes me a while to write them, sometimes in in a video for 8-9 hours even though it's only 2 hours long, by the time I make journal notes and notes in my scriptures too. Love you and pray for you and your family akways
Here's the link to the performance of the Gospel of Mark. It's amazing to feel like a first-century seeker, first hearing the story of Jesus!

In Matt 1:18 when it says, "she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." I wonder if he used Holy Ghost specifically because with Greek Mythology Zeus would often come down and have relations with "mortals". I wonder if Matthew really wanted to separate this divine birth from the normal Zeus stories.
Is there anywhere that we can go to study the words of Joseph Smith? I know he wrote The Book of Mormon through translation, but is there a book that relates to and accounts to his life?
Great question! The Church just completed a 27-volume series of the "Joseph Smith Papers," compiled and annotated by professional historians. A more user-friendly resource of Joseph Smith's teachings can be found here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/teachings-joseph-smith?lang=eng
When I was in Divinity School, the consensus opinion is that the greatest theologian in American history was Jonathan Edwards. I agree that Edwards was amazing, but I'd give him a second place finish at best. I'm consistently blown away by the teachings of Joseph Smith. Happy feasting!
Where can I get a "Trust in the Lord" disc that is behind you?
Can we get the link to the You Tube video you mentioned... of the actor who acts out a narrative of the book of Mark...?? Also --You are my hero, Bro H... I am still just soaking up every word you have to say about the scriptures and it makes such a huge difference to help me actually understand them!!! I can't thank you enough!
😊
Brother Halverson, how did you do the calculation to find the dates Oct 29-Nov 5 and Apr 15-22 ?
Do you see the story of Mary and Joseph's betrothal as synonymous to the virgins and the bride groom?? I'm just curious if anyone sees a comparison to them. Thank you for you extraordinary insight and help with these lessons and messages. We just watched this video at random today as a family... I'm always grateful for you.
Anyone knows about the narrator on CZcams bro Halverson mentioned here? If so, could you link it here? Thanks.
Hi Jared, I don’t see the option for closed caption for
This new course of study? Can you please make it closed caption for us listeners that also like to see your written words? Thank you ❤❤
There's a transcript. Click on it and you can follow along and read it at the same time.
I have had a question for sometime now. I hope you can answer this. If Joseph wasn't Jesus' father. How was Jesus of the house of David?
His mother Mary
Matthew says Joseph was a son of Jacob, and Luke says that he was a son of Heli. It appears, however, that Jacob and Heli were brothers and that Heli was the father of Joseph and Jacob the father of Mary, making Joseph and Mary first cousins with the same ancestral lines
Which episode did you tell us about how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has some similarities to Jews and Christians and then Protestant and Catholics?
