I am a stay at home, homeschooling mum. This was deep. There's do much validation and appreciation of a stay at home home right here. I love how your mum says " stay at home is an office on it's own" and we should respect it as such

I agree with Dani.your kids should always be your friend.if something bad happens they should feel very free to tell you instead of being afraid of you because you are a disciplinarian.thats why when many kids get molested they cant tell their parents because they fear.befriend your kids.talk to them.play with them.doesnt mean there will be no boundaries

This is the real tea. I remember my grandmother would send you back to the kitchen to cook if the food got finished even if everyone was full. It was understood that an empty pot meant there was someone who had not had enough.

Another Okello in the house :D And here to say that I caught that 'small' but significant comment towards the end about 'circumstance'. Because it happened to...drumrolls...my DAD. And he was SUPER as a SAHD. For three years! Such precious memories of him cooking lunch and us having 'picnics' on the school grounds every day. Tellingly, when he was back on his feet, my mom's money was her pocket money :D. I am a working mom of 2 who respects stay at home parents in a special way *love*

It's controversial to say these days but I want to be a SAHM. I come from a background of very hardworking career women and I appreciate that but I feel that it's not the path I would want to take once I settle down and plan to have a family. Having a conversation around this with family members is out of the question because, it's not even an option in their eyes.
The information so far has been great. Here's an idea for a part two: What are the deciding factors in choosing a partner who will value your decision to be a SAHM (not out of a need to control of course)? What can a SAHM do to secure their financial future because nothing is certain and given that there is only one income running the home (aside from working from home)? How do you have this conversation with your partner I.e? Best time to do this as one who isn't married and one who is is? What terms should you cover in this discussion?

Aww that was super resourceful,was widowed pretty young and have gone through that phase coz I dusted off and embraced God to lead me through.its almost 5 years now my boy boys were 7 and 2 respectively now 12 and 7 and am proudly living in our half baked home but proud of the journey so yes mum good advice there.Kitty thanks for sharing your family with us.Dana nakupenda tu and all SAHMs keep at it.

Also found it insightful that the word for important is the same as fear. Explains so much now on a discussion I had recently. I think in English the other thinks in luo and that word was a major issue. Lightbulb moment right there.

Best segment yet! Grandma reminds me of my own Dana. Even though mine owned a Restuarant and a host of property she still very much was instrumental in raising her children and doing the cooking, cleaning taking care of, entertaining guests you name it!

As a working at home mom abroad and in Kenya previously, I feel this so deep. I know the joys and struggles especially as a mom to only boys and always trying to balance things well. I get fatigued and angry sometimes, so now I'm learning to value my alone time and listening to these ladies is like getting guidance for the place I stand now and the journey ahead.
Interesting that as a work from home mom, I couldn't get time to watch this till now as I work on a chapati order, was hoping to have a sit down with it but nah. This is my tribe, I feel Amondi on that she would rather be paid to work from home and the advice to turn your home into an income generating asset. Atleast I've always been able to do that but I also know it comes from a place of discomfort and a great desire to excel together with your family.
