      @MARSHA POWERS A smile back at ya for your kind words. I found "was a drummer" to be an interesting choice of words. If you ever have the opportunity to build a home there's a worthwhile additional expense in adding insulation to every interior wall, ceiling and floor. We raised 3 sons without having to ask them to be quiet when they're not wearing their space suits.

    My advice after hours of watching more videos about cheap soundproofing:
    1. Start with easy things like adding a door sweep, sealing gaps with acoustic sealant, heavy curtains, one video even claimed putting heavy 'soft' furniture against your wall helps lessen the vibrations of it.
    2. if you are allowed to put screws in your walls (and they are straight) MUCH better than using mattrasses, fabric or even reinsulating: buy 5/8" (1,6cm) thick drywall, put some green glue on it, then glue and screw it to your wall. It only takes off 2cm of your wall, is clean, not expensive and not as hard as it sounds especially if with 2 people. Only downside is the screws and I suppose its not that easy to remove. Ceiling is possible too.
    3. acoustic panels are a waste of money unless you use them for sound treating which is something else entirely

    You can buy new moving blankets pretty cheap and they are thick and heavy. They absorb a lot of sound. You can also use them to deaden a room's reverb when it affects recording quality. I bought several for about $8 each at Harbor Freight.

I'm going to build a smaller room around my setup with wooden pallets, staple rubber mattes to the inner walls and the line the inner walls with sound foam. I'm also going to fill the inside of the pallets with sound foam and staple rubber mattes to the outside of the pallets. Does this sound like a good solution?

      Short answer: Yes, I'd recommend some heavy, thick drapes (curtains) between the window and the room. (Cheap, Very Effective)
      Long answer: Yes, I'd recommend building a fence (something solid like wood, no chain fences) as the first layer of defense, then some shutters on the outside of your window that can be closed, lastly some heavy thick curtains over the windows. Every time the sound has to travel through something, it loses some of its power. (Expensive, Best Possible Effectiveness)

    Would putting foam like the stuff you held up in the video on the walls, then fabric/blankets increase sound insulation? Or would it be pretty useless?

    • @deangeloscott
      @deangeloscott  Před 7 lety

      +Ren S the stuff I held up is really thin and wouldn't work well for sound absorbing. But it would work for reducing sounds dope reflection (echos).

    I am renting. I cant do neither of these things. If I hang bunch of posters up do you think that will help?? I gave a blue yetti mic, and I am about to start my own CZcams channel.

    • @deangeloscott
      @deangeloscott  Před 7 lety +4

      +not me posters, no because they are too thin. What you could do is take some mounting tape, like 3M sticky tape or some mounting putty, some (thin) presentation board, and some acoustic foam. Pin the foam to the board, then mount the whole board to the wall using the mounting tape. This way is nice because you still get the benefits without damaging the walls.
      I will make a video about this in the future so you can see the process.

      Try making portable walls. Auralex actually makes portable walls to assemble for temporary recording setups( kind of expensive though). There are a few CZcams vids. out that show how to make your own.

    I have a sun conure and his loudest screams can get around 4000 Hz. I've found for cheap materials to help dampen this are towels and if you can Jean material. I found a stack of 10 thick towels works to cut the sound from the bird in half. I cover two sides of the cage with this layering to help reduce the sound.

    Door Sound Proofing Idea: A door frame that goes over the door frame -- a metal hinge screwed into a stud near the door hinges themselves (but some rubber washers perhaps and a rubber sheathing between the hinge and the new frame). The frame will be an insulated box with foam. The idea is that the frame will shell the door's size exactly plus an inch on all four sides. Then around the shell frame, wrap it with an inch or two of insulation so that also it touches outside of the cracks of the door to trap the sound coming through the 4 spaces around the door. Thoughts?

    This might sound incredibly stupid, but would it be a good idea to hang up an assortment of pictures frames (in a place with the most echos) then place fabric underneath/behind the pictures? Would it even make a difference? I don’t want a massive blanket on my wall.

      you need something called Green Glue, which is not "Glue" At all, add it then add another layer of drywall, at least two layers drywall with Green Glue in between. Google it. Search on youtube, Green Glue and "Quietrock" will give you almost silence...Google Quietrock and Green Glue, seriously....like a Soundproofed Room, or a Theatre, Also using Acoustical Caulk.

    • @andremartinez418

      Savage the acoustic foam that you see in studios or CZcams setups are for sound treating not isolation. It will reduce reverb and make the recording sound cleaner but it won't stop noise from going to other rooms so your mother would still be able to hear you.
