- Today we're diving into Jack Hill's cult-hit, 'Spider Baby'...is it really THE MADDEST STORY EVER TOLD? The legendary Lon Chaney Jr. stars in this 1967 horror comedy about three siblings who suffer from a genetic disorder that causes them to revert to a crazed, childlike state.

What a perfect way to start out the new year!! Thank you so much for reviewing this very cool movie! I saw Beverly Washburn last summer at the Monster Bash Conference. She had many interesting and positive things to say about the making of this film and the rest of the cast. I met her briefly and she is such a delightful lady. You are correct in saying that both Washburn and Jill Banner play their roles with a perfect balance of innocence and the threat of menace. And Lon Chaney is truly in peak form in this movie, as are the other actors. The movie is great fun to watch again and again. However, as someone with a deadly aversion to spiders, the scene where the little monsters come crawling toward Quinn Redeker is NOT easy to watch!! Happy New Year!!!!
I despise bugs myself so I hear you Mike. ha ha, But the fact that neither of us care for bugs or more specifically spiders in your case, says a lot - because we can still make it through this film just fine. That's awesome that you were able to meet Beverly Washburn at the Monster Bash Conference! Also glad to hear she had a positive experience shooting this film. Thanks for checking in my friend! Always a pleasure. Happy New Year!
Been long anticipating this one. Great video for a great cult classic. Happy New Year Anthony!
Its really helpful for me to go into movies like this which are a bit different & sometimes off the radar too. Much thanks Terence happy 2024 brother!
“Spider Baby, it’s got the body of a spider but the mind of a baby...and eh...and it couldn’t really bite ye unless it got a bit older.”
I've never seen this in its entirety, but now I know I need to, if not just to see that scene where Chaney talks about the full moon. Hard to imagine that 30 years before he was starring in "Of Mice & Men" on Broadway. RIP Quinn Redeker. I met him at a 3 Stooges convention about 15 years ago and he was super nice and friendly. I think he should have been a much bigger star. Looking forward to many more videos in 2024! Have a good one!
Hey that is awesome you were able to meet Quinn Redeker! He was so good in this! I went mostly spoiler-free this time, so if you get a chance to check out 'Spider Baby' again, there's actually so much more to the film. Thanks for checking in Betamax. Be well!
Wow! so much cool trivia 😍 So many scenes that crack me up. It's one of the strangest films. So glad it's getting lots of love so many decades later. 😊💜
Heeeey Nye! Happy 2024. : ) I was a little late to the party with this one, but glad to finally dive into it. Thanks for watching, have a nice week ahead!
Sting! 🕷️ 😂
Oh, no, Spider Baby is definitely not "the Maddest Story Ever Told." You must never ignore the Eddie Romero and Al Adamson canon....
😂😂
Hey Kali! Hope you've been well, happy 2024! Eddie Romero and Al Adamson....now that's another fun catalog of B-movies I have to watch / rewatch.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Happy New Year to you too!
Oh man. Spider Baby. The Big Dollhouse. Sorceress. Right in my wheelhouse there. This is a great, unique film that even still doesn't get enough attention. So kudos for choosing to spotlight it.
I was first exposed to this one on the Horrible Horror VHS tape back in the 80s. It showed the Mantan Moreland scene and I had never seen anything quite like it before.
This was a bit different, but I think fits in really well with your channel.
Ha ha, no doubt, I thought of you when those Jack Hill flicks crossed my path! I read there was some pretty rough VHS tapes back in the day. Glad they finally recovered a better version, there's a nice Blu-ray of this I'll have to track down. I'm a little late to the party on this one, but it really grabbed me. You know something is special when it just inspires you to go ahead and make a vid about it. Thanks Rob! Be well man!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater I know exactly what you mean. I watch a lot of good films. But there's just certain ones that grab you and you just have to cover them. Creation of the Humanoids was such a movie for me.
The goat has returned 🎉
dbrooks! 🤜🤛 All the best in 2024, I appreciate the support! Much thanks!
So happy to see you cover this and loved your observations, including the dinner scene. Definitely going to revisit this film soon.
Hey GoryRory! Much thanks for watching, yup this was a fun one and a bit different for me.
Hey Anthony fantastic review. I love that Lon Chaney Jr and Sid Haig are both in this - I feel like it connects two different generations.
Thanks Mr. Dan! You are right, this one is a great bridge between generations of horror.
Hey what's up Anthony! I hope you have a happy new year. And this is a great way to start off 2024. I love classic black and white films, but never knew about this until now. I always love your uploads because it's always a fun history lesson and I learn something new from your pop culture knowledge. I'm definitely checking this out.
(edit) Charles! Ha ha, well in this case I learned a lot too. I only knew a little about the director, Jack Hill but this sent me down an interesting rabbit hole regarding his other movies as well. Thanks for the kind words! All the very best in 2024, thank you as always Charles!
Fantastic video, Anthony. I haven't seen this one, in fact I wasn't even aware of its existence. But rest assured, I'm gonna watch it after seeing this vid. It looks hilarious. Great job as always, thanks for another highly entertaining and informative episode. 👍👀🎬
Thanks Greg! Oh for sure, its a fun watch. Last I checked it was still on Tubi, but yeah I liked that it was entertaining in and of itself but also had ties to some interesting trivia. Thanks for checking in man, be well & have a nice week ahead.
Happy new year my man and this movie looks interesting thats for sure
Heeeey wassup Jason, thanks man, all the best in 2024! 🤜🤛
This film does have an interesting cast, Carol Ohmart from 'House on Haunted Hill' fame😀
Oh no doubt! Carol Ohmart, Lon Chaney Jr, Sid Haig, very solid cast. Well worth checking out. Thanks tapeduk, hope you are having a good weekend!
Great vid! This movie is on my tbw list. I love Sid Haig! I love wacky movies. I remember seeing Faster Pussycat and Sweet Sweetback at revival theaters in Greenwich Village. Btw, I recently watched a Michael Rooker Outer Limits and a Ghost Theater episode called Recurrence. I highly recommend both. They were both deeply moving. Have a super day 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥👍🏻
Hey Max, yeah this one sent me down the rabbit hole with so many other movies I have to check out now. I'll add your picks as well and check to see if I watched the Michael Rooker / Outer Limits you noted! Much thanks for the watch & comment. Happy 2024! Be well man!
I have to check this film out. Looks pretty awesome.
Thanks WW! Happy 2024 man!
Happy New Year, Anthony!
Hope you and yours had a great holiday season, and that 2024 becomes the breakout year for this channel.
Anyways, the review of this reel in the attic is so good, it makes the movie seem intriguing to me! Not that I'm ever really gonna watch it (you know I hate scary movies 😮) but you have watched it so I don't have to!
Now where else have I seen the male horror lead? Was he Riff-raff in Rocky Horror? Just don't know.
Hi Marie! Very Happy New Year to you as well, always a pleasure. The fireworks were going off here in New York for some time ha ha. I hope you and yours had a great holiday season as well! I think Richard O'Brien played Riff-raff, but there's a resemblance for sure. All the best in 2024! 😁👍 Take care!
Love it
Hey a fellow fan! Good to see. I'm hoping others are a fan as well. Thanks supa_sets! Happy new year!
I'll give this a watch. I've noticed it on Shudder.
Cool, if you give it a shot, hopefully you enjoy it. In any case, much thanks Carl! Have a good one!
@@FeverDreamlandTheater this was a great movie I'm almost done with it now. I'm at the part where she almost stabbed her uncle but her sister called her away before she could.
Sting! Sting! Sting! 😀😀😎
I've been debating on watching this movie.
Hey Anthony 👋 never seen this movie. Looks insane 😅the closest to horror comedy movie I've watched was Freakshow 1-2. This looks pretty decent though to be honest
Hey Cirespeed, yeah this one may not be for everyone but I certainly dug it. Appreciate you checking in, much thanks man!
Not many know … Spider Baby
🕷It's a weird little hidden gem, I dug it!
