#8stringguitar #metal #riffs - Hudba
Do you think 8 strings are cool or is it better with regular down tuning? :)
I think it depends, both can be amazing for what you play, either way I’m happy, but I’m simple minded, so seven I can just about manage haha keep doing amazing stuff Pete! :)
yes
8
Down tune a baritone 6 string. Only so I don't have to think too hard about scales.
I write music far better on a down tuned 6 string. Whether that's from familiarity or personal taste I'm unsure.
Sounds savage! But leave some frequencies for us bassists please 🤣🤣
Never! Tune low, chug slow. Haha :)
@@peteplaysmusic mwhahaha alright I'll have to tune up then 😅🤘
I mean, the whole point of mixing 8 string guitars is to be in the same note range but totally different frequency field as the bass.
Boost mids, scoop lows
Nah, sounds totally different.
Got some Mick Gordon Doom vibes from the riff around a minute in! Such groove much wow
Thanks! Love Mick Gordon, he's awesome! :)
I personally love the sound of 8 string guitars, I feel like it has much greater dynamics over the range. Gotta love just using the fat string though haha
Haha! Yeah, 8 strings are cool. First thing every guitar player does with an 8 string? Chug on the lowest string :)
I really like the mix 'n' riffs! Feels like watching old Rob Scallon (and I mean that as a compliment of course).
Thanks! That is absolutely a compliment, Rob is awesome :)
Pete proving once again why he is the riff master of CZcams!
I try my best haha! :)
Taking me back to classic Rob Scallon days ❤️
Love that dude! :)
Pete doing more with one string than 95% of all djent guitarists playing with 8. 3000 IQ talent. Thank you for another awesome song!
Thanks! :)
uhm... nothing special...
@@k4shey Most djent music is nothing special. This at least had some musicality. That's what makes Pete a great player is his ability to serve a song even though he can play just as well as many other more flashy players.
I agree. 100%.
Actually true.
Sounds like a level of Doom. Very nice!
Thanks! I actually based the song structure on Mick Gordons riffs. Dude is awesome! :)
You have more talent on one string of a guitar then I do with 6. Awesome work! 🤘🏻
Thanks! This wasn’t as easy as I thought though, still challenging but in a different way :)
Soooo, how I normally play my 6-String in Drop A then? That was sick. I'd like to retrofit with a 7-8 String set one day, just to get lower without switching to my bass.
What scale length is your guitar? Switching to an 8 string set would probably need some modifications to the guitar. :)
I'm really glad i just got my first 8 string guitar. That is one string that isn't on it. I went one up and one down then tuned down 1 full stop. So my low and high is A and G. Love it! I'm thinking of making this guitar fretless like my other ones. :)
I can't imagine how weird that must feel without all the strings there lol I've busted a single string on stage before and was at a total loss for feel even though I didn't really need it
It took a little getting used to at first but then it felt totally normal, kinda cool experiment haha :)
it's not about how many strings you have, it's about the notes you play.
I 100% agree :)
It's what you do with them.
Man that tone is sick for such a thick gauge string.
Thanks! :)
Amigo, excelente toque, saludos desde Colombia, Sur América.
Hell yeah pete man do you have metal backing tracks for your subscribers to play with?
If you a Patron on Patreon I have backing tracks for all my songs. This will be on my Patreon tomorrow afternoon :)
this gives me shovel vibes :D
Haha! Maybe I can borrow it from Rob :)
This is sick!! 🔥
Thanks! :)
That was f****no brutal and insane Pete ,awesome work dude !!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏
Thanks! :)
Mick Gordon has entered the chat lol
Awesome stuff!
What was the move above the nut? Was that just a different bend or something else?
Yeah that was a behind the nut bend, so it kinda sounds like a whammy bar. Also, I'd love it if Mick Gordon entered the chat. That dude is awesome :)
@@peteplaysmusic you should get with geoffplaysguitar, the dude has MG down... To the point where I think he might actually have Mick tied up in his basement.
But a colab between you two would be phenomenal!
That’d be awesome, I’d love that :)
Nice strategy to link othe old videso. I'll take note...
Yep, directing people to just one video seems to work well :)
Goddamn, I love your originals!
Thanks! :)
The return of the djent-stick ! Love it !
Gotta love the Djent Stick :)
I keep meaning to try making a djent stick. I have a few ideas to make a pretty nice yet affordable one, inspired by the Atlansia Solitaire.
Go for it! :)
@@peteplaysmusic Lol aye, I should. Its one of those things I keep meaning to do, but always wind up spending my money elsewhere. Its not even a hard project either. Especially since you can buy single string headless bridges for pretty cheap on ebay. Way better than most djent sticks that have some diy monstrosity for a bridge going onto an awkward looking single machine head. Headless is the way imo.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop great idea!
I am thinking about mutilating a short scale bass to turn it into a 6 string headless baritone for some time now.
No headstock, cut the body to new shape, install active guitar electronics and boom!
@RobScallon made a djent stick out of a shovel 🤔
I also made a Djent stick, kinda? I used a wooden spoon and Cigar Box Guitar pickup. It’s really hard to play lol: czcams.com/video/qimapRTZSsw/video.html
Well that was insane pete 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Thanks! :)
What pickups are in that guitar?
Bare Knuckle Pain Killer in the Bridge position :)
So much groove, love it!
How'd you tune the bass? In unison or octave lower?
Thanks! It’s in the same octave so it’s in unison with the guitar. :)
heavy!!!!🤘🤘
Thanks! :)
How thick is that string?
It's a 74, I think :)
good song...!!!!
Thanks! :)
So even on a 6 string I never play in standard tuning, so I got into the baritone market and grabbed a super cheap OLP (Sterling basically) MM5, which is a 6 string 29.75" scale baritone, and I sold my Kiesel 8 string because I just stopped playing it lol. Baritone is life. You don't need that many strings if you're really gonna go for the CHUG.
You been listening to Mick Gordon lately? Awesome video as always Pete
Indeed I have :)
This fucks. Solid tone bro
Thanks! :)
0:56 was beautiful
Thanks! :)
Damn Pete! This sounds like something from the DOOM soundtrack, awesome \m/
Thanks! I was kinda going for a Doom vibe with this. Love that soundtrack :)
The irony of using an 8 string for this is gold
Thickest, most lowest tuned string I could find haha :)
When are we getting the Rob Scallon collab?
I’ve collabed with Rob multiple times already over on his channel. We did Djenty Metal Town and Progressive Metal Town videos and I’ve also done some editing/mixing for him :)
This is exactly why I am back to 6 string baritone
I’d think I’d hate the idea of a 6 string baritone haha, it personal preference though. 7 strings where it’s at for me :)
Personally, I would just get a 7-string and tune it to F# or drop E. That way, I can still play some of the lower Deftones songs with it.
I'm happy to see an Agile guitar lol
They used to be everywhere but are kind of less seen these days. They’re still going I think and have some cool guitars :)
@@peteplaysmusic i really, really want a Geodesic. Never played a headless, but the Geodesic is a sexy guitar lol
I think 8 strings are just better overall, you get a lot more notes without needing to tune down I could play in 6 string standard tuning ignoring the 7 and 8th strings and play it normally but obviously you have two extra strings it’s just so nice
I was expecting something meme-y but this actually slaps
Thanks! :)
I see you muting those missing strings!! \m/
Force of habit haha :)
We already got 9 strings; now we just wait for the 10 strings bass-guitar hybrid
Agile make a 10 string, it’s wild haha :)
Reminds me of Meshuggah on shovel!!!…🤙😎🤘
Those videos were awesome haha :)
👌🏼
I think you need to get yourself a custom Krappy guitar made.
No way, there’s a guitar company called Krappy guitars? :)
For heavy riffage, baritone guitars can be easily set up to 8 string lower range with much slimmer neck and if some cases even better string tension.
Not as versatile for lead playing tho, but depends on what your role in the band is... IF you are in a band and IF you have chops for lead playing.
This guitar is so big (30 inch scale) I'm not sure it's possible to play leads haha :)
@@peteplaysmusic Nobody is Tosin, but Tosin...
Exactly what I am talking about, I could easily get away with just 6 string baritone and have much more comfort playing.
Then there's 8 string multiscale guitars that do everything lol
*Brushy one string has entered the chat*
funny thing I bought an 8 string the other day with a longer scale so I can tune half a step down or down to drop E easier.
What scale length did you get? This one is a 30 inch scale and it handles drop E great :)
@@peteplaysmusic I have a 26.5 scale I went with one with a 27 inch scale.
Nice! That should do the job nicely :)
*sees title
*angry scallon noises
Haha. I actually can'y wait to try Rob's new Schecter 8 string. It looks pretty awesome with the fan fret :)
My first year of guitar was noodling just like this on one string forever
Yep, me too haha :)
@@peteplaysmusic I shouldn't say "just like this" because YOU, Pete, made it SUPER cool. I only THOUGHT I was cool.
I realized that i dont need 8 strings after tuning my 7 string to drop D1. high D is useless for me lol
I guess it’s more about what you do with the lower tuning than how you get the lower tuning, it’s all personal preference really :)
I just recieved my for 11 string
That’s about 90% extra guitar right there haha! :)
You don’t need 8 string guitar - as long as You make adjustments to the nut to accomodate the lowest string from the 8 string set… cool story. Great tone btw :D
Thanks! :)
oh we know we dont need 8 strings, we just want them for a e s t h e t i c
They do look cool haha :)
This is the best Song Meshuggah never released !
Haha, I will take that as a compliment! :)
that's why 30 inch 6 strings guitars getting popular right know
Baritones definitely aren’t for me, but I can understand why people like them so much haha :)
The fact that I just bought an 8 strings and this shows on my CZcams page😐
It knows haha! Thanks for watching :)
Reminds me of Jared Dines Djent Stick days
The good old Djent Stick! :)
Who needs an 8 string when you got guitar with a scale length of 30 inches
Play a chord..........🤣. Friggin dope, man 🤟
It’s a single note chord haha :)
You could play entire doom sountrack like this
Haha. That would be cool! That soundtrack is awesome! :)
When you're down to this, you've got to look deep within and come out... you're a closet bassist🤣🤣! Gimme screaming harmonics, high reaching melodic runs!
There's a video of a guy "busking" and he plays some Doom songs. Not 8-string, just two strings to bring Mick Gordan's stuff to life.
I think I’ve seen him, he has like a guitar with only 2 strings, I think? :)
@@peteplaysmusic, that's the one.
Is this death rock?
You mean like Death Metal + Rock? I guess so, I was going for a Mick Gordon vibe with the song :)
This could solve my problem of occasionally hitting the wrong string.
Haha, yeah I’ve done this too. I’ve actually removed strings before to get the perfect take when recording :)
The new 1 string comes out in august lol pete signature, worlds first
How did you find out this top secret information!?!? 😜
@@peteplaysmusic opps, sorry man. Shh i wont tell anyone else 😉
that doubled truss rods tho
It’s a beefy neck haha. Not sure if it actually needs two true rods but it looks cool! :)
the metalhead cousin of Brushy One String
Haha!🤘
Very impressive. Now do it with shovel.
I only have a spoon guitar, will that do? Haha :)
@@peteplaysmusic A galactic senator once said...
DEW IT
But now i can’t do funny Thall bend :(
I’m not familiar with the Thall bend. I will consult with Andrew Baena’s haha :)
A one string guitar, I might even be able to learn that (maybe not though).
So what your saying is buy a 8 string, but only use the top string.
Still surprised no youtuber came with a djent guitar which is literally one string and the neck is also very small too since it only has one string, just for the memes
How did you guess my new signature model Djent stick? 😜
@@peteplaysmusic i would buy it 100%
As you leave the lowest string on an 8 string lol
(Great playing though mate 🤘)
Thickest string I could find, also I thought it would look cool haha :)
Other 7 are for holding the neck in proper shape.
I’ve seen talk of necks warping and going out of shape before but I’ve never once seen it or experienced it and I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding about the topic. In general, necks will be fine without strings/tension providing they aren’t damaged etc :)
You literally made a video years ago on how extended range guitars sound better than down-tuning on non-ERGs lmao
I did but, there are no rules really. 7 strings is the sweet spot for me but for many its a baritone or a 9 or even a 6 or 1 string. It's all personal preference :)
Now just use the higher one
You know for comparison
Vildhjarta is all the proof you need.
What about a 0 string guitar? They play great totally underated
Is that a challenge? Is a 0 string guitar possible 😜
@@peteplaysmusic it is possible, you didnt saw that thing with a touchpad instead of strings? Very back in the day there was also a laser harp and violin
Djent Stick
It is kinda like a Djent Stick now haha :)
hehe 😇
1 string surf board djent-O-matic
Lol I should get one of those too! :)
DGent yeah ok that was so 2018! LOL
You should do lump by presidents of united states of America djent cover
came for the joke, stayed for the music
Thanks for watching! :)
You can play this on one string and I still wont be able to play it lmao.
It was still kinda tricky on 1 string. Bends behind the nut but also bending the 24th fret, it gets kinda crazy haha! :)
I mean if you dont use the extended range, thats on you boss.
I do like extended range, although 8 is a bit too much for me. 7 is my favourite personally :)
NOT JUST NOISE
Taaaaaaaabs please O:
Tabs for this are on my Patreon, link is in the description :)
why does it remind me of a riff thornhill would play
Do they use only the lowest string too haha? :)
@@peteplaysmusic in the rhythmic and sound kind of way, if that makes any sense
PETE! Find a song named “Eight” by…uhhh..some band… and play it on an eight string PLEEEEEAAAAAAAASE!!!
I’ll try my best haha :)
I just realised that noone really talks about Agile guitars anymore.
They were super common a few years ago. They're still going, I think?
@@peteplaysmusic They are, just not as spoken about. Though its probably because they were basically the only affordable multiscale back then. Now they have a fair bit of competition.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop you mean extended range? Because I haven't heard of multiscale Agiles that often
@@peteplaysmusic Yeah, they're still around, but they slowed their activities quite a lot since covid started. There are more and more extended range guitar brands now, so I suppose that's why not many people talk about them anymore.
@@KahruSuomiPerkele They do extended range too. But no, I meant multiscale. Agile are (or were) pretty well known for them too.
This is exactly how most people play 8 string guitars anyway ^^
I think we play 8 strings like this every now and then haha :)
2 Truss Rods 1 String
This was proof why I need 8, lol
Absolutely, it’s all personal preference. I’m just having some fun here haha :)
Well yeah, I could take one string a put in on a 8 foot neck and wouldn't need 8 strings either. Doenst mean I dont want a 7 string just for the hell for it.
Absolutely, 7 strings are my preference too. I’m just having some fun here cos let’s face it, a lot of us chug on that low string haha :)
You don't need a 6 string because I've seen people do well on 5 string guitars and electric banjos
If someone thinks using 1 string is not original.... They're wrong
