You forgot the fact that he scored the winning goal in the semi finals to lead Cruz Azul to the gran final since I think 2013. And he won the title with them

he was called in 19/20 to camp for argentina u20, before his mexico senior debut. he refused. btw, Feyenoords sporting director, working for FMF back then, saw the entire development of how Santi decided to reject the call.
Here's the thing: I'm American, but let's pretend that I was born somewhere else. If I was born and raised in Morocco for my first three years in life, and I moved and earned citizenship to Estonia, I'm Estonian. Giménez maybe born in Argentina, but he is ultimately Mexican.
With that being said, I would love to see him lead Mexico to fútbol glory. It's long overdue considering the talent to come from the country, including one of my favorite players Carlos Vela.

Heres another thing. Cruz Azul had a 23 year league title drought. They were able to win other tournaments like the leagues cups, copa mx, concachampions, etc. However the league title was always denied. Santi formed part of the team that ended the drought and gave Cruz Azul thier 9th league tittle

Gerardo Martino did not selected Santi Gimenez to the World Cup knowing that he ('Tata Martino') was Argentinian and would face Argentina in the group stage. Many of us found it too stupid not to place the best 11 against Argentina in addition to not only developing a defensive lineup but also making it difficult to be able to play for the striker so that he could not score a goal apparently

Gimenez won a title with Cruz Azul, breaking a 20+ years drought without a title. Regarding World Cup selection, imo, Funes Mori selection was the obvious mistake, but I think Raul Jiménez was also a bad call up. The only selection that made sense was Henry Martin (top goal scorer of Liga Mx that season) but Santiago had to be the starter, probably

I do think santi is definitely one of the better talents for mexico but for the most part he's just been average or underwhelming for the national team but i don't blame him too much the calls up for mexico are more frustrating than anything
