Hilarious that at 3:56 he finally sins the generic bird scream the ONE time it's used for the actual bird species that makes that sound (Red-tailed hawk)
Kinda shows you they really don't know much about much
There is a theory that the sins are made to promote commenting about why the sin is that way. No movie is without them, but what they are can be debated. The irony isn't missed though, feels like it was on purpose.
I think it’s just so overused that even when used properly it’s just still generic.

Just because Rango is an animated movie, It doesn't mean it's for kids.
I found the tone to be darker and more mature than most animated movies that Hollywood makes. This is why I love this movie. He does something different and in a great way!
It was produced by Nickelodeon and in the UK had a PG rated and, in the UK at least, was marketed towards kids. That said, this is not a kids movie. Chinatown town plot in a spaghetti western setting, I wonder what the early storyboards were like and how much had to get cut.
Eh, I love Rango but I don't think it's really that dark. There's no blood or swearing. It's basically an old Disney film but with glorious visuals.

My favorite example of "animated but definitely not for kids" is "Happy Tree Friends."
That hawk screech is used in basically every movie for every bird of prey ever.
But it's actually applicable in this movie because that hawk is a red tailed hawk, the bird that actually makes that noise irl.
The real problem is when they use for shit like bald eagles which don't make noises anything like that irl.
If I’m gonna believe someone when the say that screech is from a Red tail hawk this is the only name they can have.

The "Ride of the Valkyries" scene in Rango has to be one of the best animated sequences ever - from the banjo cover of the titular song to Rango swinging merrily whilst it's all going to shit behind him, and to the "planes" (bats) going down with smoke trails.
I creamed my pants so many times during that scene

This is a movie about a chameleon that can't camouflage becoming a sheriff, fighting a rattlesnake and discovering an undercover plan to steal water
This is a spoof movie that deserves all the praise. This movie never took itself too seriously and it is amazing

It’s pretty incredible too that it’s such a great skewering of the Western genre and also a phenomenal homage to it

The irrational disgust I felt around 12:03 when he called the Roadrunners "ostriches" is probably what the Cinemasins people feel with other, obvious inconsistencies in movies.
To be fair, they never went "Meep Meep" or dropped an anvil on a coyote.
It's not irrational disgust. If he's going to nitpick, he should at least nitpick ACCURATELY. That said, screw-ups like this allows us to nitpick his nitpicks and go meta-nitpick.

I don't think I've met anyone who watched this movie without making any Johnny Depp jokes. I realize the guy became an easy punchline in recent years, but it's getting kinda tiring
The animation is BEAUTIFUL but the film is properly awful.
Oh come on CinemaSins, this movie deserves more than one sin off. 14:36 is a toad one-handed flipping a shotgun. Rattlesnake Jake! The owl electric guitar solo! And 'Where...where are we going?' scene. This film is a MASTERPIECE that we humans are scarcely worthy of.
Although props the 22:48 outtake was freaking hilarious.

It deserves like 5 off for that sunset scene too and just any of the landscape porn too

Rango is a masterpiece of a film, especially with todays animated films in comparison.
It definitely is a masterpiece and pretty awesome compared to the mediocre stuff coming out nowadays.
The lighting in this movie is incredible. Nothing like I had ever seen in an animated feature before.
Yeah you can tell they put in a lot of work for the animation. Its so very detailed and smooth. I don't care for the plot but it is good work.

God, it hurts to watch these when it's a film you love. This is genuinely my favourite animated film.
One thing this channel has done to me is that I notice product placements now. Aside from that, I have enjoyed it.

Man I remember when Cinema Sins was good. Now they just punish unique ideas and concepts in movies whilst also simultaneously pointing out the cliches. There used to be some sense of logic and comedy in their sins but now they just sin what they feel like without doing any research into what they’re sinning.
Such an underrated movie. The Fantastic Animation still holds up and is better than a lot of modern animated films.

That "generic bird scream" is the actual call of the Red-tailed Hawk. The kind of hawk carrying away the toad.
I know, it sucks that Hollywood thinks that it's a better sound than whistling for Bald Eagles, but it really is their call.

It still has Johnny Depp in the main role, which unfortunately in the internet world means it should be exposed to every singular Johnny Depp joke imaginable, to the point where those jokes overshadow everything else about it.

I watched this a very very long time ago and it really just feels like a fever dream. I remember a girl of some animal I have never been able to identify, a lizard and his brother who is a snake. That’s it, that’s the whole movie

There are so many awesome lines in this movie that the sincount would drop to 0.
I mean all of those lines just seem like normal action film cliches to me...
Shoutout to this movie for being one of the very few non-documentary movies for having an naturally accurate roadrunner
5:09 the way I yelled 'IT'LL QUENCH YA' immediately says a lot about my childhood. If I even hear the word cactus I think of that scene.

Its damn near perfect, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.
This movie is truly once in a liftime creation, lightening in a bottle.

I don't know why, but I unironically really do love this movie. I've watched it multiple times.
A couple of sins for everytime Jeremy calls Rango a lizard when he's a Chameleon. I mean, he changes color in one scene.

4:57, Rango actually DOES sort of have a point. Priscilla isn't really dressed for the conditions of a dusty western town. Her clothes are the kind a fairly well off girl in an urban setting of the time would have, or, if they were in the West, would be their Sunday going to church clothes. I sort of like to think the reason in the movie she askes Rango if she can have his boots when he gets killed is because she has gotten tired of being yelled at due to her stockings continually needing to be washed and bleached (this is Wild West times, so that would be HAND washing and bleaching) since her Mary Janes aren't really designed to protect them from dirt and dust.

I have a funny story about this movie.
On the first day Rango was shown in my local cinema I bought tickets for the next day and fell and shattered my glasses on the way home. Because of this, I thought for a long time that the scenes with The Man with No Name and Fear and Loathing were filmed with live actors
I dont need glasses and I fully thought that too, the animation is just another level, especially not being from Disney

Rattlesnake Jake is my favorite character, he’s just so damn cool! Also, the reason he was afraid of the hawk, not the gun defend himself. It’s because of that base animalistic instinct. We as humans have all the time and we’re still afraid of certain things because of her base instinct. Not saying, I’m judging for that sin, it’s a movie I’ll make me do it
reading about all the issues they had animating Rattlesnake Jake and even just getting the mustache on him really made me appreciate animators even more than I do, which I didn't think was possible. there's a whole video dedicated to the animation of this film here on CZcams and it's definitely worth a watch.
The avian "Wilhelm scream" was actually used in the correct way this time. Metalbeak was a Red-Tailed Hawk, and the steam-whistle screech comes, indeed, from a Red-Tailed Hawk. It's just been used as a stand in for *eagles* screaming (they don't scream, they twitter and squeak - really!) That was the joke - a Red-Tailed Hawk villain making a hawk's scream. ^.^

@@birbsap Yes, actually she does, it's just not mentioned because she's a non-speaking character. She's based on Lee Marvin's hired killer Tim Strawn from Cat Ballou, who was known as Silvernose because of his prosthetic nose.

Yeah, they did a darned inmpressive job with some of the animals in this movie. Like the roadrunners -- not ostriches -- and the fact that desert elf owls often live in cacti.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and seeing it be sinned is something I didn't even know I wanted.
At number 31, that might not be a sin exactly. Those owls look like elf owls, which are known to rely on cacti for many purposes and can sit on them.
Just that one guitar riff justifies the existence of entire movie.

I have a wild theory about the shirt. A lizard changing it's color changes how it absorbs heat. Perhaps it's a shirt that can change with temperature. As for why that it is the only time it changes, I care about consistency as much as the average children's movie writer.
It's also a possibility that the material of the shirt is pretty thin so we can see his scales changing underneath but it makes it look like the shirt itself is changing colors
The narrator at CinemaSins would be the kind of guy who’d call someone out for using a left turn signal in the left turn lane at an intersection saying, “In case you thought he was turning right.”

11:25 You have to consider, that huge thing probably spent more calories *opening its eye* than all of them combined would be worth, so it's no wonder it' not gonna bother them, and they know it.
Creatures that are *very* big instinctively know how much effort it takes for them to move, so they're not going to unless they get a *really* good reason.

Fun fact: you can technically drink venom, so long as you don't have any ulcers, you'll be fine. Don't recommend it, but still something you could do.
Well, it kind of depends. There are a lot of places in the human body where the veins are REALLY close to the surface, close enough that they CAN absorb things you drink, and several of those are in your mouth (that's why, contrary to movies, trying to suck the venom out of a snakebite is NOT a great idea, you're just as likely to get YOURSELF poisoned as well.) You MIGHT be able to get away with it, but you better hope you don't have any tiny cuts in your mouth.

The thing that I couldn’t get past is this takes place in a world where Rango is a pet, but the desert animals are heavily armed. As a human that would freak the hell out of me if a mouse pulled a gun on me and started shooing.

I watch this movie maybe 3 times a year and everytime it, ugh Its amazing. The Music, the Animation, the writing, its all so good.
That last outtake would have been perfect if it went on for like 10 minutes, of just people looking at each other. Maybe throw in a Judge Smails "WELL, we're waiting!"
