Biologist here. The eye-bone thing is a real thing. It's called a sclerotic ring. It's common in birds, reptiles and fish. It provides additional support to the eye in animals that live in extreme environments, in this case probably wind pressure and g-forces associated with flying. Pterosaurs here on earth often had them.

As he poured, the professor’s cup became full, but Nan-in kept on pouring. As the professor watched the cup overflow, he could no longer contain himself and said, “It is overfull. No more will go in!”

That's how I interpreted it. Humanity's cup is "full" because they think they know everything, but it doesn't apply to Pandora and how to properly deal with the moon and its people. If humans in 2150 or whatever are still mining natural resources for fuel instead of being completely renewable (surely our already viable green tech now would be refined, widespread, and affordable almost 130 years from now?) then the issue is really with how humans are dealing with their problems.

Jeremy, being brightly colored can be evolutionarily advantageous for those that have already stricken fear into the hearts of potential predators. The colorful spinning bug is likely either poisonous or at least mimicking a poisonous species, warning others not to eat it. Of course, the real explanation is that the cinematographer thought that it would look pretty, but there are actual evolutionary explanations as well.

The Navi don't treat the ikran like other animals. They revere the banshees and respect them on another level. They respect nature as a whole, of course, but the banshees are precious to them. They don't tame the ikran just to tame them because they can, it's considered a rite of passage. The movie even makes a big deal of explaining this, as Neytiri stresses that an ikran will only ever have one rider its entire life, and that in order to "tame" an ikran, it has to choose you, which it does so by trying to kill you. The bond between a rider and ikran is special, and not something that can be forced just because someone wants a bigger ikran.
If you pay attention during Toruk's first appearance, he actually focuses on Jake almost exclusively. He chases Neytiri and Jake, yes, but the few times where Jake and Neytiri briefly split up, Toruk chooses to go after Jake, which is a subtle bit of foreshadowing showing that Toruk did actually choose Jake there. Their confrontation was just postponed for later.
In other words, it's not that no one ever figured out how to tame Toruk, it's that very few people were ever actually chosen by Toruk, and even fewer lived to tell the tale. It's entirely likely that Toruk could have chosen many riders over the years, but that only five people before Jake were chosen, then actually managed to survive long enough to make the bond with Toruk.

Aaaand about the banshees "loosing their self will" when connected with a Na'vi, no. The movie explains that when they connect their Queues its like connecting neural pathways. The animal and Na'vi become one, both in control, they can feel each others breathing, heartbeat, their pain. And since Na'vi focus on harming nature as little as possible, these animals are never mistreated, and the banshees are allowed to roam, they are only used when called
Also Neytiri is being literal about making the bow from hometree, after the dream hunt ritual (which actually much deeper and has to do with psychedelics but was removed from the movie) the person going through thr ritual has become "one of the people" and can take a branch from hometree (the tree they all live in) and make a hunting bow from it 😁

    • @Nghilifa

An oxygen mask for breathing in space wouldn't help. The pressure differential would burst your lungs and kill you. You need a pressure suit (ie a spacesuit) to survive in the vacuum of space (you can survive for up to 20 seconds if you expel all the air in your lungs, as shown in TV shows such as The Expanse, and also in movies like 2001: A Space Odyseey etc, but simply putting on a mask will not work).

Plot contrivances aside, I find Avatar to be a fun watch. But the one thing I can't get my head around is how the distance between Earth and Pandora actually impacts the whole operation. How long does it take to get a message to Earth? And if it takes almost 6 years to get to Pandora, how are supply orders and personnel transfers handled in a timely manner? Sigourney Weaver's character had been waiting 6 years for Jake's brother, and Norm, to show up? A shipment of Unobtainium takes 6 years to get back to Earth... so how exactly is it marketed and sold as a resource? If a manufacturer has to wait six years for a shipment of raw material, how do you profitably develop and manage a product that has a six-year time delay before going to market, especially in a world that must already be engulfed in volatile financial chaos because of the issues and shortages caused by environmental challenges? And if on Pandora one needs to order supplies, or recruit and hire someone for a specific position... which requires ridiculously expensive delivery costs... only to have project parameters altered 3 years into the shuttle flight because of cancellations or shifts due to changes in corporate planning ... how the heck can you efficiently run a business schedule with so much time lag? Does anyone have any insight on how this is supposed to work?

It is actual magnetic flux funneling that makes the mountains float according to the in world explanation because Unobtainium is a room temperature superconductor.

9:48 Flux Vortex makes perfect sense if you've taken some advanced science classes, of any kind.
Electromagnetic flux is a thing, and Vortex is just like, powerful swirling winds, like a hurricane or something... So, a "Flux Vortex" translates to Electromagnetic storm, that's going to break anything that runs on Electricity. And while in theory you could shield a computer from the EM interference, there's external sensors that need to be exposed, and those would stop working.
What it is makes sense, the fact that it's there, not so much.
