- Samsung Galaxy Fold4, Fold5, Fold6: buyer beware, part 2 review. After only 18 months, the inside screen is unusable! I'll tell you what I absolutely love about Samsung foldable phones, what I don't, how my day-to-day usage has evolved, and why I plan to take legal action against Samsung. By the end of this video, you'll have enough information to make an informed buying decision, something I wish I had before purchasing.

I had this happen to my Z Fold 4 about a month ago. I had to have my inner screen protector replaced about 6 months after I purchased it. It started to bubble in the middle at the top and then ended up going all the way down the crease. Then about 4 months later, I was opening the phone and heard a loud pop and my screen looked exactly like yours. I wasn't sure if it was the screen protector again or something else. I called around all of the replacement shops in the area, but everyone has been out of the screens protectors . I was going to purchase the Z Fold 6 when it came out, but after this event I went ahead got the S 24 Ultra and I'm really enjoying the phone. So now that I know the inner screen itself is ruined I may try to join the lawsuit, thanks for the video.
That's unfortunate. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm thinking to get the s24 as well. Also very expensive...
They replaced my screen cover about one year in and I never got the worse problems. It had a wifi problem and failed but they agreed to just fix it. I bought mine directly from Samsung so the warranty may just have been better that way.
If the screen starts to peel again, get it fixed asap. It took only 2 days before my screen protector caused pressure on the inner screen and damaged it.
Mine were all flawless. Since original one
Your problem is really the disjointed support behind the scenes for the device. As an owner of a fold 5 and a former Samsung in store advocate for T-Mobile I can attest to the amount of times where a customer would have a screen issue that's clearly supposed to be covered under warranty
Where they will try their hardest to charge for a repair that is supposed to be covered. I love the fold series and I enjoy using the fold 5 but after this I believe I may go back to the S series of devices altogether if Samsung doesn't start making some meaningful changes.
Thanks for sharing your Samsung in-store advocate experience! It's hard to blame the support staff when it really is an issue with Samsung's quality / immature technology. Although the Fold 5 has a redesigned Flex Hinge (phone folds flat and 2.4mm less thick) and has a slightly more powerful SnapDragon 8 Gen 2 processor, it appears the inner screen itself remains the same, a 7.6-inch QXGA Dynamic OLED with a resolution of 2176 x 1812, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. I suspect the same for the Fold 6 when it's announced; we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully this video will inform potential Fold owners of the inner screen issues and risks.
@@rejjie_DIY I think you're onto something there.. the reason I outline what I did though was Samsung will promise you one thing, a Samsung service center will promise another and once you get in you will hear another story. I could fully understand if it was just simply "hey, you have physical damage that was clearly caused by user error we cannot honor your warranty" but there's been situations where devices have undergone catastrophic failures through no fault of the user and they still treat it as accidental damage. I believe both sides of this argument to be true; Samsung needs to hold themselves accountable when things go wrong and also make an effort to further improve their display tech.
Another thing that just still bothers me is their insistence to relegate the fold series to 4400 MaH after all this time. A phone running two whole displays shouldn't have a smaller battery than a phone running only one.
@@tamerdrgGreat points! Thanks again for sharing your perspective.
Go for the class action !
Yes, stay tuned!
My experience of using the phone has been similar to yours ... and it the middle of the screen has cracked twice so far. When it cracks again I will throw it away and buy a non-foldable phone
So frustrating!
less than 6mth of my Fold 3, i had a peel at the top & bottom of the screen protector. Got it replaced at Samsung immediately & sold the phone away. Read too many bad reviews of the screen breaking. I got a fold for the writing as I was a Note user, then S series with spen. However, after getting the Fold 3, I hardly unfold it to use the spen instead.
Cons:
1. Heavy
2. Cant use magsafe, too heavy to magnetically mount on my magsafe car charger. Very limited choice for car mount.
3. No slot for spen, ended I hardly use my spen, which was the reason why I have been using Samsung Note & S series. Thinking a bigger screen of a Fold was a great device for writing. But no.
Same, I was on the front screen 90%, inner screen 10% or less.
I am back to S23 Ultra now.
Thanks for sharing! I agree with all your points. Except I wasn't smart enough to sell it like you were! Lol
I'm looking at an s24 ultra with an S pen. Would you recommend it?
@@rejjie_DIY yes, I have been using the S ultra series, great phones. A few of my colleagues are using the S24 ultra now, no complain from them. I intend to upgrade my S23 ultra to S24 ultra soon
@@quekvincent5981 Thanks @quekvincent5981
I bought second hand Z fold 2 for cheap at FB marketplace in malaysia. The previous owner already had used it for 2 years with no inner screen protector and it still works just fine with little cracks in the crease. Right now i have using it over a month now with matte screen protector on the inner screen and so far im loving it.
Edit: The previous owner had drop it and cause back glass to shattered in the corner. When i go to sleep i will stay my phone unfolded or whenever i dont use it.
Good to hear success stories. But the failure rate is too high for me to risk buying another. :(
@@rejjie_DIY I would like to use this phone for another 4 years so that i can upgrade to z fold 5 or z fold 6 if it in good conditon and cheap enough for me to upgrade. I would never go back to candy bar phone
Check back in 4 years. I'll bet there won't be enough working phones to buy used any longer! Lol
@@rejjie_DIY Well. That's something i should be aware of
One of the phone i am waiting to save up and buy but now i am losing hope with this phone. I will stick to my xiaomi and my old iphone 5c thank you for letting me know.
Glad I could help with your decision
@@rejjie_DIY Yep you have no idea how much you have helped the love I had for the phone was extreme. But now I am sick of this phone. Your video was the start for this series now I have almost watched 10 to 20 videos of this phone I am glad i got your video. Thanks 👍 .
Very informative rejjie
Thank you
i have had the z fold 5 since its release and to this day i still have no problem, my inner screen is still fine.
That's great. The failure rate of the foldables I believe is too high based on the info I've seen. You're one of the lucky ones. 👍
100%I've had the fold 2 and now fold 4 no issues it's a beast .
@@rejjie_DIY honestly i just think its the way people open and close their phone, most of the time people close it so hard you can hear it clap, in my opinion thats why your inner screen breaks overtime
There are better options out there for foldable phones so you are not restricted to only samsung. Xiomi, oppo, vivo and oneplus all have similarly priced foldables with better cameras and build quality, taller and when using just the outer screen feels like holding a regular slab phone
Just wondering if you might know if the other manufacturers' phones have reliable inner screens?
@@rejjie_DIY I have not heard of any problems with their inner screens. So far its only samsung
I have never had any problems with my fold 4 I have dropped it banged it up and the screen was perfectly now I have the fold 5 and it is a night and day difference with the hinge I say give it one more chance and get the fold 6 what should be out in a few months and I absolutely love the fold 5
I would do that if it wasn't so expensive.
My first fold ever was the 4 and I'm glad I waited till that one since the previous ones looked different after the fold 5th looks exactly the same as the 4th. Thankfully no hardware issues at all on my end. But I understand others have.
Best of luck with your phone, hope it lasts.
Fold 3 user bought it new 1yr ago and getting a crease in the middle and loss a pixel already samsumg says warranty just expired
Ugh. Yet another Samsung quality issue
My Fold4 has the problem when folded, the wif/BT, camera, mobile signal and other basic functions stops. Ive had this for less than 2 years. Base on reading forums, I suspect the flex ribbon is worn out. So, currently Im ordering online flex repair kit which is kinda cheap than having it repaired by samsung as I know for a fact they wont cover it with any kind of warranty. I knew it because it happened the same with couple of my friends with fold4. I'd say its pretty common to have this which is frustrating as this is an expensive gadget. Do I like using the fold 4? YES. But would I buy another or recommend it to anyone? BiG NO!
This will probably be my last fold. Hopefully if I succeed in repairing with a flex kit (im still waiting for it to arrive atm) I will squeeze the life out of this phone. Currently Im using it unfolded all the time which sucks big time.
Thanks @yjud8540 for sharing your insights. Similar experience to me in that I don't plan to buy another foldable phone. I put out this video as a public service announcement and thus "buyer beware" is in the title. I'm in the same boat, using it unfoldable and yes it sucks big time. I prefer to use my S10+ and even my S8+ because of the larger screen, longer battery life and lighter weight!!! Your inputs also help would-be foldable customers with their decision, so thank you! Let us know how your repair goes. Cheers.
Had the same with my z fold 3
That's unfortunate. Will you be paying for repair or upgrading to a new fold?
Same
1yr and half galaxy fold 4 no issues what's so ever .Sorry to all that had a issue
Plus for a regular user the battery is more than enough to get through the Day
Let me onow about the class action sued im in
Ok will do. I may go the small claims route. I need more plaintiffs for a class action. I'll mark your name down!
I have the same problem with my fold 4.
That's unfortunate. Will you be paying for repair?
From my own experience fold 1,2,3,and 4 were ALL defective.
All of the broke within 12 months and all exactly the same way you described in your video.
The fold 5 is the first fold that has lasted without fault and I've had it now for 11 months..
So it seems with the latest fold they have fixed the durability issues but I absolutely support you 100 percent.
Go ahead and sue Samsung.
They also denied me a free repair blaming me for the breakage when it was clear the breakage happened right where the crease was where the phone folds and unfolds.
Good luck 🤞
I know you will win for us all
Yikes. And I thought I had it bad
When you do I'm definitely joining
@minhoiii, I was thinking of going to small claims court. Do you think we should go bigger with a Canadian class action law suit?
My did that but was the screen protector they had on it
I pulled it off my phone is perfect i put another scren protector on
My fold 4
You caught it in time before the pressure from the screen protector did permanent damage. Good job
I don't believe a word! Another one I'm pushing " don't recommend channel " button.
My current phone in the z flip 5 and i like it but honestly when it comes from durability i can see where you're coming from, so far my phone thankfully has no damge but i still feel that theres times where i gotta baby the phone to keep it from damaging so ive decided to just trade it in for the s24+ or the s24 ultra later in the year when the new folds release.
Good plan
I have the z fold 5 as well and I've been thinking the same thing either s24 ultra or iPhone 16
I like the Samsung Galaxy s series better than the z-fold series
I agree. Although I feel shafted by Samsung I'm leaning towards an S24 or S25 for my next phone.
At least in my country, Romania, they dont offer screen guarantee when you buy it.
That's unfair. Although many in North America are also getting turned down even in the warranty period
Many years ago, Samsung refused a cashback i filled out properly. it's only about 50 euro, ok... but that was the moment i decided to leave Samsung completely. In the near future, I consider a to buy a flip phone (There is no important use case i should consider foldable type) and all options are open, except Samsung... Motorola for now is in the pipeline of preference, but Samsung... Not one bit.
I haven't checked out Motorola phones. Can they compete with Samsung?
SUE SUE SUE!
Yes, stay tuned!
