Samsung Galaxy Fold 4, Fold 5, Fold 6: Buyer Beware Part 2 review
Samsung Galaxy Fold4, Fold5, Fold6: buyer beware, part 2 review. After only 18 months, the inside screen is unusable! I'll tell you what I absolutely love about Samsung foldable phones, what I don't, how my day-to-day usage has evolved, and why I plan to take legal action against Samsung. By the end of this video, you'll have enough information to make an informed buying decision, something I wish I had before purchasing.

Asus ROG Ally microSD / SD card issue and workaround
Im thinking of going to the google pixel fold 9 because of the camera is way better than galaxy fold 5 and 6. Galaxy fold 6 camera no better than the galaxy fold 2
@@warriorplutotrent3827 I haven't researched the reliability of the pixel fold. Would be interesting to find out.
I have had a fold 2 and fold 4, usable life is 18 months - agree with this review, long term reliability is not there - great when new but no longevity
I bought insurance for mine from likewize. Screen failed. Sent for repair, no parts. They then sent me a new one for $169. So to all of you. Insure the puppy, it is worth the cost.
Mimiimimimimi
I have a z fold 4 around 2 years its inner screen was perfectly fine until the inner screen protector peels from middle and made a black dot, in my opinion the major cause behind this is screen protector, it cause a tight tension on screen in middle which leads in damage. So please its humble request to all fold users try to avoid using screen protector let it be free from tension. And mark my words it will work flawlessly without any damage or dead screen for long period of time, until you not accidently fall it.
Thanks @rampratapsingh8945 for the tip!
Dont buy this phone...i started using this phone after 4 months i bought..i got the purple lines and inner screen damaged after 9 months of use.. 1 year warranty over.. samsung service centre charge $800 plus to repair this
22 months on my 4 and now same issue...ugh! Will just use the outside screen until......oh, $650 to replace inner screen!!
@@ITS_BOBBY47 I know. So painful!!
May get a pixel pro 9 next
Same Happened with mine, had to pay 300$ for samsung care phone replacement 🥲
See this video on how to minimize screen damage on your new phone. czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
If u upgrade ssd n have old 512gb ssd ,You can get mini 2230 ssd enclosure type c and use ,spare 512gb ssd as a portable ssd drive,
@gamerupdate5489 That's a good option. Thanks
The work around is getting Steam Deck OLED instead 😂
Please ,anyone who has any foldable phone and the screen protector start have bubbles, just peal it off ASAB , it is the problem that cause to break the inner screen !
100% agree
Will peeling off the screen protector void the warranty?
@@gauravpant1 yes
@rejjie_DIY So there is no point in peeling off the screen protector by self even if the protector is developing bubble crease from mid, as it will void warranty. I guess this must be peeled off by the service centre itself regardless of whether they have a new protector available for Fold4 or not..
@gauravpant1 if it starts to bubble, I would bring it immediately to a Samsung Service Center to get it replaced. From my experience, it takes only one or two days before it starts to permanently damage your screen
Happend me twice on fold 3, fold 4. No more fold phone for me. It was fun it worked but wasted $4k on 2 phones
I hear ya. Sorry to hear about it happening twice to you!!
NEVER EVER BUY SAMSUNG FOLDABLE PHONE ...U WILL REGRET....
Yes, 100% agree!
Want to join as well, faced the same issues as you did.
It’ll still fail. Problem isn’t heat it’s a capacitor that can’t handle the power being fed to it
@Bhdobbs, odd. With the external adapter, did it fail in the exact same way as without it? Did you try a different SD card? More details would be most helpful, thanks.
I have had the same problem twice within one year. They gave me a refurbished phone under warranty the first time. When it happened again 4 months later i wanted a different phone that was not a fold. I still owed $700 on my fold 4 and Verizon wanted me to pay off the balance on a defective product to get a s24 ultra, i didn't pay. After hours of talking to different people on the phone I received a credit that may or may not get approved only after I purchased a new s24 ultra without paying the balance on my old phone, it will come in the mail. Verizon has the worst customer service on the planet because they know your basically trapped so good luck if you have a fold that craps out more than once while your still paying it off. Stay away from any fold product unless you don't care about getting a refurbished fold phone every 4 months.
The same thing has happened to my Z fold 4. A story identical to yours down to the last bit. Didn't use the screen much in the 1 year I have had it, didn't drop it, a black line developed in the screen all of a sudden totally identical to yours and the screen stopped working
Sorry to hear about your phone. Too many of us with the same problem! No more fold phones in my future.
Layer, you dropped. I had 3 of them and best ever
Nice. Certainly many will not fail, but the defect rate is way too high for a production device. Good for you.
I have the same problem with my fold 4 i like almost everything about the phone except for that problem
100% agree. So close but so far.
I live in Florida I will like to take legal action if is possible
The class action lawsuit referenced in this video has good details which you could reuse
Got my fold4 as part of the original launch in fall 21. Has worked flawlessly until yesterday, when I found I could no longer open the screen fully. Sometime today I was watching YT full screen but closed the phone to take to another room. When I opened back up, I had a black line down the screen and limited responsiveness. NO CRACK. Now it still displays, but is unresponsive to touch, leaving me with a smaller screen than my old samsung note that was still working when I traded it in - cracked glass and was very close to just folding in half after 6 1/2 years of hard use. So glad to find this and the class action suit. I planned to keep this phone for at least 5 years - it didn't make it 3.
@@jawjagrrl you may want to consider changing your inner screen cover before it gets worse. Check with Samsung
You really really should have removed the screen protector as SOON AS YOU SAW it start to peel. It would have saved the internal screen. I removed mine, as soon as i saw it peel, which was after about 18 months ( i used it as a 2nd phone) and it still like new now. No issues.
@tinku5018 Yes you are correct! I only wish I knew before it happened. Hopefully others will learn from my mistakes. Other issues that cause inner screen damage, like cold temperatures, are summarized in part 2 of the video series here: czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
You need to remove the inner screen protector the moment it starts peeling in the middle. This will cause a pinch when folding the screen causing it to fail.
Yes 100% correct. I only found out afterwards :(
Got mine and working fine
I researched and collected feedback from others on what to do to minimize chances of damaging inner screen here czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
Same thing happened to mine after a year, screen protector started bubbling down middle and upon opening it appears screen protector bubble lifted or damaged screen due to suction from screen protector. Just out of warranty, last time i buy a foldable.
Super frustrating. Yeah no more foldable for me either. See law suit here czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
The best option is... send it back to Asus and force them to redesign the motherboard and move the sd slot. If not, lawsuit.
Assus wipes his Assus with the lawsuit 😂😂😂😂
I am not sure what happen to your fold phone, but mine been using 2 years of course with a care after i use it i always clean with small clothes i put inside my fold, and i am ex samsung user, the fold i use is Vivo X Fold gen 1, i never trust any samsung because in my country their services is really bad here, i remember last time my note 10+ due to their software update issue mostly people got bluetooth issue after update their software, even i still got 1 year warranty they ask me to buy new spen , they are not like other big company like sony wf-1000xm4 last time also got issue after update but Sony is kind they let me claim new one, thats i can tell you is real story its up to you to believe it or not, samsung nowsadays is terrible, they only care your money.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Индусы не знают, что если пленка слазит, то её надо или снимать или менять, от пыли, что попадает под пленку экран и умирает. Снял бы пленку экран был бы цел.
I agree with you, except I would say that all of us are generally not aware of what to do when the screen begins to crack or peel. I captured my best advice for Fold owners or would-be Fold owners in the next video in the series found here: czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
Same thing just happened to mine; it just broke out of nowhere and for no reason.
Super frustrating! Lots of others in the same situation. So much so there's a class action law suit in New York. I talk about it in the next video in the series found here: czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
Same problem.
That's such a hilarious bodge. I can't believe owners aren't kicking up more of a fuss about this.
Yeah, it is ridiculous. Asus does provide warranty support but I was skeptical whether they could actually fix it. I'll post another video soon on how my warranty repair went...
Same thing happened to my Galaxy fold 4 right after passed 1 year. very light use on big screen as unfolded . Haven't dropped and it always had case from samsung. suddenly screen gone bubbly in the inner middle and after 3 days gone black and spreaded and unresponsive. repair cost is 6-700 usd and Samsung customer support doesn't care. this should on recall or free replacement for another phone.
Sounds almost identical to my experience, sadly.
Same experience as mine, in Argentina, where this is extremely expensive. No Samsung support.
@@Eprodil Sorry to hear. Super frustrating!
Same problem with my fold 4
But you can’t charge at the same time, am I right?
That's right. Unless you use a dongle or hub, see later in the video
@@rejjie_DIY Thanks

That's unfortunate. I've done more analysis and decided against repairing or buying a new fold phone. czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
My Fold 4 After 13 Month Screen Black
Yeah. Mine has now turned completely black as well. Makes my phone near useless. I've done more analysis and decided against repairing or buying a new fold phone. czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.html
Actual workaround is to replace 2 faulty PPTC fuses, that become resistors (probably due to incorrect reaction to overheating)
@zork219 interesting response. Can you please elaborate further?
I have the Galaxy Z fold 4, this is the first thing I did at the store after I purchased it, I took off the screen protector that comes with the phone and immediately put a liquid glass screen on it, An I haven't had a problem with the screen on the inside or the outside, it was the smartest thing I ever did, because that liquid glass screen did the trick, and the phone is still in pristine condition and works like a champ, and a week ago I got my 6.1 update and I have no complaints, I passed up the Z- fold 5 because Samsung doesn't have enough changes an advancements on Z fold 5, and it looks like the Z fold 6 isn't going to have enough advancements and features just like the Z fold 5, so it looks like I'll have to wait and see what the Z fold 7 has enough changes an advancements to make me want to upgrade do the Z fold 6, we'll have to wait and see, see you in the next video ✌️in🎩👀😎.
I wish I did the same. Didn't know about liquid screens until mentioned here. Thanks for sharing your experience!
My Fold 4 stopped working just after the warranty expired so I had to shell out for repair. It’s said that the ribbon cable is known to cause trouble due to bad design. Also the screen protector started to lift at the crease but Samsung has one free replacement otherwise it would’ve been $50 to replace. I’ll stay off Samsung for now. My Flip 5’s screen protector also lifted up at the crease which was free to replace.
Thanks for sharing your experience
Just sent my Z FOLD 5 back because my screen started flickering and it turned green. I had a blue one and they sent me a black one. SO PISSED
Another screw up. Thanks Samsung. Thanks BBM for sharing.
When I got my Galaxy Z fold 4 the first thing I did at the Verizon store is take off the screen protector that comes with the phone, and then I put a liquid glass screen over the top, and I haven't had one problem, but I'm not going to update because there's really not that much difference between the Z4 Z5 an Z6, Samsung doesn't give enough improvement to make me want to buy another fold, and until they do I'll just keep my Galaxy Z fold 4, and because I already got my one UI 6.1 update running on my Z4, an my sister has 6.1 on her Z3, if a person doesn't have a fold phone, the fold 6 would be all right, but a person would be better off buying a refurbished Z fold 4 or Z fold 5 and would save a lot of money.
I've not heard of liquid screens before, looks interesting. Thanks @rocko100able for sharing.
I've had my Fold 4 for over 1 year now. I had to have it replaced through warranty because I dropped it and cracked the screen. I had to pay a $250 deductible but other than that I still enjoy it. The downside is I find myself wiping the screen every time I unfold it due to the dust.
Good to hear!
Only issue I've had between my Fold 4 and 5 was the 4's screen protector lifting at the top and bottom of the screen. I used to use it while mowing the lawn in the hot sun for up to two hours, and that heat was certainly enough to weaken the adhesive. Having learned to avoid doing that, I haven't had a single issue with my Fold5.
Nice. Like mentioned in the video, as soon as the screen protector lifts, take it immediately to get replaced.
@@rejjie_DIY I did, since Samsung offered a free replacement where I live. But none of the three I had installed by Assurion stuck permanently, like the original; and worse: the guys installing them were trapping dust. In the end, I ended up removing it and using the screen without a protector; it felt and looked MUCH better, though I wouldn't recommend that to careless people.
For my huge hands i can even use a tablet in one handed mode
Lol.
I had this issue with fold 3 a Nd it happened overnight, I knew this happened either because of temperature/ weather change and the connector connecting both sides snapped inside. Samsung refused straight away but after fighting with samsung they repaired it since I was having 2 months of warranty left but my out screen was damaged as well from a drop which they were claiming that's why they can't cover or repair inside screen. I fought my case via emails and calls and got it done. Since you need to know your rights a d law to get this fixed. I am samsung fan or loyal customer but they can't rip customers like that. #Samsung @Samsung
Good for you!!
Have the same problem
Unfortunate. See part 2 of the series. So many others in our situation! czcams.com/video/jI0NkxL5Ovo/video.htmlsi=O_ew7WD5m7IOOztH
That happened to me I opened it and heard a crumble and went down the fold and had to use my insurance and all I got was a re conditioned phone even though the seller said if it happens in the first 6 months I'd get a direct replacement if I bring it back to the same o2 shop I was called a lier and told to use my insurance now iv got a reconditioned one my screen goes blank or it works then all of a sudden I get a rainbow striped screen but when u plug it in to charge it then works no problem and now o2 say I can't use my insurance as I was 1 day late on the payment for contract and as standard cancelled my insurance without telling me but apparently once ur insurance is cancelled on ur device you can't re activate your insurance so now my phone plays up u can use they keyboard no problem but once in a while the rainbow screen comes back or just goes black and u can hear the video but not see it
That's so frustrating to have to deal with.
1yr and half galaxy fold 4 no issues what's so ever .Sorry to all that had a issue
Plus for a regular user the battery is more than enough to get through the Day
Good to hear!
It’s gonna happen eventually done last longer then others
@sastreetscenesastreetscene3098 ill definitely post if it dose but I've yet to brake any of my phones 20 yes and counting
i have had the z fold 5 since its release and to this day i still have no problem, my inner screen is still fine.
That's great. The failure rate of the foldables I believe is too high based on the info I've seen. You're one of the lucky ones. 👍
100%I've had the fold 2 and now fold 4 no issues it's a beast .
@@rejjie_DIY honestly i just think its the way people open and close their phone, most of the time people close it so hard you can hear it clap, in my opinion thats why your inner screen breaks overtime
Mine were all flawless. Since original one
Good to hear!
How long have you been using your fold 4 now
I had this happen to my Z Fold 4 about a month ago. I had to have my inner screen protector replaced about 6 months after I purchased it. It started to bubble in the middle at the top and then ended up going all the way down the crease. Then about 4 months later, I was opening the phone and heard a loud pop and my screen looked exactly like yours. I wasn't sure if it was the screen protector again or something else. I called around all of the replacement shops in the area, but everyone has been out of the screens protectors . I was going to purchase the Z Fold 6 when it came out, but after this event I went ahead got the S 24 Ultra and I'm really enjoying the phone. So now that I know the inner screen itself is ruined I may try to join the lawsuit, thanks for the video.
That's unfortunate. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm thinking to get the s24 as well. Also very expensive...
This is another cause as I believe their screen protector causes the issue or enhances it as it pulls the screen at the ends of bubble. Now I have fold 5 let's see how it goes but this time again I had warranty on it.
@@TarundeepSodhi good luck!
