      You can use it however you cant stress the console too much and generate so much heat. This is basically user responsiblity too not to let the system go until 95 degree for prolonged period of time or turning up fan curve to mitigate heat.

  • @excitedpixelsmedia
    @excitedpixelsmedia Před 7 měsíci +5

    Yes but it can draw more power and you can't charge at the same time. I have a USB c SSD stuck on the back with a USB splitter so it can read super fast and be plugged in. Works well.

      I did something similar. See video at time 3:07 where I used an adapter to both power and use the microSD cards. I like the microSD cards because of the low cost and being light weight. The performance is surprisingly good too. I'll be posting another video shortly on performance comparisons between the internal SSD and microSD cards.

      I'm curious on power draw on all these things. I found the power splitter cable wrapped perfectly around the tint lightweight SSD. 4TB always on hand is awesome and cheaper than the micro sd equivalent. Just wish we had 2 USB c ports. Nice to see more experimenting. :)

  • @Reshoots

    The note about "long game sessions" at the end is a bit confusing. Is this method using the only slot/connection available for powering the device? Is that why the white "Diamond" adapter at the end of the video is needed? Can we get more details about that white adapter (with a link), or any similar adapters that would work? Seems pretty annoying having that bulk only a few inches from where it plugs into the device, so hopefully there's an alternative that isn't dangling a weight like that. I'm also confused by this statement: "(Xbox Game Pass) doesn't allow you to install a game on one micro sd card reader, remove the micro sd card and run it on a different sd card reader". There seems to be some key wordage missing here, as I'm not sure what you're saying. Which kind of sd card reader does Xbox Game Pass allow you to install games with?

    • @rejjie_DIY
      @rejjie_DIY  Před 7 měsíci +5

      Good questions. Correct, for longer gaming sessions when you need continuous power to your Ally, the dongle allows you to share the Ally's single USB-C port with both a USB-C charger and a microSD card reader. I'll post a link to one of these in the description. Regarding the Xbox Game Pass statement, after a lot of frustration with game installs that stopped working, I discovered that Xbox doesn't allow you to install a game on one microSD card reader then run it on a different card reader. I suspect this is due to Xbox verifying game license keys that is dependent on the storage location.

      I use a small 100w usb hub from Anker with a long cable and a 100w charger. You need a new 100w charger to get the 30w with a hub. Works perfect. So you have the 30w turbo mode without any bulk at your handheld. Just setup a proper fan curve

      Did that work reliably for you? I'm going to try returning under warranty although I've seen a few where the problem still persists.

      @@rejjie_DIY yes put 70degrees and up to 100% and then 60degree to 60% 40 degree to 40% ect. the system will be way cooler.. the original Fan curve is beyond stupid... big software fail for Asus... all of this SD failure is for nothing

      @@n64slayer well to be honest it´s not. Looks like it at first sight. I own the ally and had some time with the claw...the right joystick is placed lower on the claw and the buttons are higher up. Doesn´t feel that good. Apart from that...yes it looks like a promising machine. You are defenitely right about that.
