I love how they set this up. The whole time people have been saying she doesn’t have a strong voice and Curtis says she’s only a star cause her voice has no character. Then she busts this out like a big middle finger to him as if to say “I’ll show you character bitch”. Gives me chills every time.

@@carteranimationz2897 She does, but it's less of a showstopper. There's a sung scene between Deena & Curtis right after "This time Effie White's gonna win". It starts "Curtis, what kind of man are you / How could you try to stop Effie," and evolves into a brief reprise of "You Are My Dream", which then segues into "Hard to Say Goodbye". I think some of the lyric from the libretto made it into the movie as straight dialogue.

1:22 Deena felt guilty because she didn't know that they sang Effie's song that Curtis stole. She just followed what Curtis want to do with the group. In the beginning, she admitted she can't sing like Effie and she didn't want to. Peoples still hate her and most of them are Beyonce hater.
Let’s not forget she was sleeping with her best friends man behind her back and after they kicked her out the group they got together and got married. I don’t hate her I just don’t like her sometimes.
