  • @bekaafrica

    I been walkin'
With my face turned to the sun
    Weight on my shoulders
    A bullet in my gun
Oh, I got eyes in the back of my head
Just in case I have to run
I do what I can when I can while I can for my people
While the clouds roll back and the stars fill the night
    … That's when I'm gonna stand up
    Take my people with me
    Together we are going
    To a brand new home
    Far across the river
    Can you hear freedom calling?
    Calling me to answer
    Gonna keep on keepin' on
I can feel it in my bones
    … Early in the mornin'
Before the sun begins to shine
    We're gonna start movin'
    Towards that separating line
    I'm wadin' through muddy waters
You know I got a made up mind
And I don't mind if I lose any blood on the way to salvation
And I'll fight with the strength that I got until I die
… So I'm gonna stand up
    Take my people with me
    Together we are going
    To a brand new home
    Far across the river
    Can you hear freedom calling?
    Calling me to answer
    Gonna keep on keepin' on
… And I know what's around the bend
Might be hard to face 'cause I'm alone
    And I just might fail
    But Lord knows I tried
Sure as stars fill up the sky
    … Stand up
    Take my people with me
    Together we are going
    To a brand new home
    Far across the river
    Can you hear freedom calling?
    Calling me to answer
    Gonna keep on keepin' on
    … I'm gonna stand up
    Take my people with me
    Together we are going
    To a brand new home
    Far across the river
    Do you hear freedom calling?
    Calling me to answer
    Gonna keep on keepin' on
    … I'm gonna stand up
    Take my people with me
    Together we are going
    To a brand new home
    Far across the river
    I hear freedom calling
    Calling me to answer
    Gonna keep on keepin' on
I can feel it in my bones

A meaningful song with so much power, intensity, and deep emotion. it’s a wonderful tribute to Harriet Tubman as well. She was a true African-American hero and this song gives her so much justice.

“You know I got a made up mind
And I don't mind if I lose any blood on the way to salvation
And I'll fight with the strength that I got until I die.” My home was literally hit with an E3-E4 tornado while I was in it. I went to the ER, the next day I went to CLINICAL! Like Harriet I refused to give up!

This song gives me more motivation to help my people more. I’m anishinaabe(indigenous) from Canada and i advocate for our youth that struggle with mental health in reserves, while also being a youth myself, a 15 year old. There was times that I wanted to give up but I told myself that the people that gave me up, that gave all of us up made us feel really awful, like we were the problem. I didn’t want to project that and stood up. Im an advocate for them now and currently im fighting for better programs for the youth that love on reserve and fighting with our school division for more implements of our culture into school.

The song shouldnt be used for other bad situations, though. It takes away the actual meaning of the song which is about black people being used as slaves before, so if a female on tiktok uses this sound behind her talking about s*xual assault it isn't right cause viewers won't focus on the meaning of the sound she's using. But I'm not saying the s*xual assault thing isn't important. :)

This song is soooo power that it gives me chills and I cry everytime I listen to it. I can feel every ounce of pain, sorrow, grief and emotion put into this song! It's so disheartening to know what our ancestors went through back in the day, the tortures they had to endure right in front of their children & everyone else to see. And its beyond shameful that we couldn't ALL live & love as GOD OUR CREATOR wanted us to! Love, peace, respect, integrity, morals, values & the list could go on & on. We ALL have to do better, NO tries about it!!! Treat people as you WANT TO BE treated. It really is THAT simple!!!

some people dislike videos because they don’t like what’s happening. as example there’s a video of a puppy’s last moments alive, then some people would dislike that video, not because they have something against that puppy, but because they don’t like the fact that that were his last moments. so with this it could be they don’t like the fact that black people have to experience racism. i’m not one of those people btw that logic makes no sense to me but i saw someone who disliked a video like that explaining why he did it

As a 12 year old girl I am proud to be black. My ancestors ran so we could walk. They fought so we could live. The world is changing and people need to accept that everything on this world is meant to be here. We are going to stand up for what's right. And we're gonna get equality no matter what it takes. #BlackLivesMatter isn't a trend it's something that will matter for ever. Are voices are going to be heard. We are going to live. We are going to make our ancestors proud.

I am not black but I do support BLM with every inch of my soul, this song made me bust out in tears for what my people have done to POC and just thinking about it makes me sick. This song is so so so beautiful and the way she sings with so much emotion absolutely moves my heart. I am so so sorry if you are a POC and have ever had to deal with racsism, your skin color does not define you as a human being or makes you any less of a person. Youre beautiful, youre brave, and youre sure as hell stronger than anyone i have ever met. To all my fellow white people or anyone who needs to hear this, we can help be part of the change, we can help them gain teh justice they oh so deeply deserve. We can help. Nothing will ever be able to fix all the damage thats already been done, but we can help with future damage.

I am 66 years old and I have never heard another race make a statement like this to people of color. When you said it makes you sick that’s true love of GOD appearing in a spiritual body that’s bound for the promised land. Don’t ever let anyone change who you are, just keep feeling like you do toward others.

Sorry to break it to you, but there are not "innocent" black americans being killed by the police; So far all of the deaths were from felons, and armed people against the police; Look at Joshua for example; he committed 7 felonies and had a knife in his hand resisting arrest; He was a threat and got shot; There is nothing different about these times except for the lying media

@@falkyraizu3063 Yes there are. There was a little boy who got killed by police because his mother called the police to help him,he was having a mental breakdown. But instead he got shot and died. Also the cops aren't the people who decide who live or not. I haven't heard any stories of a white person getting killed for doing the same things. There's lot of racial discrimination going on in the goverment

      @@tenderfoxmeat The irony is that your telling a story about a "young boy" that you yet have no name for; Statistically speaking white people are proportionately killed more from the police than black people, and when you look at unarmed black civilians who die every year it is only 6, better yet unarmed still dosen't mean dangerous, and the numbers can be lowered even more; All of these modern examples of "innocent" black people dying are not innocent; Breonna Taylor, Joshua, Floyd, Foreman, etc; The list goes on; These were criminals who were dealing with the police, not innocent black people;
      The only reason why you haven't heard stories on white people who died from the police is because the media is obsessed with stories on african americans and this "systemic racism" that they face to get more clicks on their articles; I can list several white men who died from the police, yet the media dosen't display them; There isn't racial discrimination, and the police don't decide who lives or not;
