Also, Bruce Springsteen stated that his song "State Trooper" from the album Nebraska was heavily influenced by "Frankie Teardrop" from the band Suicide.

One of the most overlooked records ever. Seriously, what a dark and depressing album. This is one of Bruce’s most consistent albums, and I really think every song has a very important message to give. I especially love Johnny 99, the lyrics and instrumentation just have you borderline empathizing with the character in the story. Also, I’m pretty sure this song went on to inspire Brandon Flowers to make the song Diggin’ Up The Heart, which I really recommend, though it’s a lot more upbeat, it still has amazing lyricism.

Springsteen became my favorite artist over the past two years for a lot of reasons, his lyrics and arrangements being two of the biggest. Really glad you’re shedding some light on one of his most underrated albums. I’d recommend checking out some of the live versions of the songs, especially the live version of My Fathers House from his Broadway special and the Christic shows. He adds in stories about him and his father which adds a lot of power and depth to the performances. Keep up the great content man!

Honestly, I refuse to listen to any other of The Boss' albums solely because of how much Nebraska hit me. I still remember the first time I heard Atlantic City, the sorrowful brotherhood of Highway Patrolman, and the echoing howls in State Trooper. In my opinion, it's his best - and most challenging - work.

My mother likes Bruce Springsteen (though that's probably changed for numerous reasons). My initial education came from whatever records my parents have and this definitely included him. I say this because I think there may still be some residual influence on what I do.
For instance, at the start of this year, I put out an EP called Psychogeography. I knew what the artwork needed to be, which was a high-contrast rendering of Brutalist-style buildings. If there were any typefaces on any sleeves and what-not, it would be white on black but with occasional splashes of red. Revisiting your take on Nebraska, I wonder sometimes ... =]

Los Lobos does a fantastic cover of Johnny 99.
There's an entire album of Springsteen covers and they're all real gems- performed in unique versions.
As to Nebraska, it's something to listen to with your headphones on, in the middle of the night with the lights off.
Just...immerse yourself in the stories and feel of the album.

It’s incredible how he managed to create a huge, huge sound with couple guitars and harmonicas and some percussions. The dark tone crashes you to the ground. This album may be one of the most accomplished in terms of vision of the artist and final product. It takes courage to make an album straight out homemade demos on a cassette 4 track .
