Sports tourism is a massive money earning business and Jamaica is desperately in need of world
class sporting facilities. A huge win for Jamaica if this project becomes a reality.

I was just about to prepare & post my comment, but I've come across yours! And you said it all!! In addition to this stadium renovation, the very smart investors are also possibly developing a kind of AIRBNB community & hotels. Intention on being big on tourism. But tbh, I'm not familiar with the area around the Trelawny Stadium.

This development could be aimed at Jamaica hosting more games in the future. It could open new doors for concerts, track and field, cricket, training facility for athletes etc. We don't know the full plan of the developers but hopefully, their plans will be a success.

You are not thinking my friend; the Trelawney Stadium is in a prime location to to take advantage of sports tourism! The stadium is in between Montego Bay and St Mary where most of the Hotel are located. Tourist from Europe, USA South and Central America, Canada, and even the Caribbean, can come to Jamaica for sporting event like Athletic Cricket, and others sporting event through the tourism context. Jamaica could host Diamond League, World Relay,(one year in Jamaica, next year in the Bahamas) there are many sports that could take place in this stadium, where people with higher disposable income from around the world could attend as part of their vacation to Jamaica. Remember even when we make it free to go in the National Stadium people don't come, so we need a different approach...

@hotbiz123....You are spot on! It is the IDENTICAL view I have. Just watch all the European diamond league track & field and the surrounding infrastructure of residential homes / highrisers, etc. and how those spectators love their sport(s). Like many in the Caribbean & North America would travel here (enjoying our island) & spend mega-bucks viewing wonderful sporting events.

Spring training camps, for instance, are big for many major US sports teams. They serve as a home away from home for teams like Chicago Cub-Spring Training Camp in AZ. So, if this is meant to lure some of these well financed teams to Jamaica for off-season train, this could be huge.

They've held concerts at the stadium
If Jamaica is moving towards 1st world status, then they'll have to develop and maintain infrastructure all over the island. Furthermore, Trelawny is being developed as a tourist destination, and there's money in sports tourism. Athletes in certain sports need a warm environment to train during the winter.
That stadium in Mobay needs to be renovated as well.

That stadium is being redeveloped for the Jff via FIFA, they will not be spending That much. Per info Fifa wants a dedicated football stadium outside of Kingston. This is being done to expose more Jamaicans to international football. A lot of Jamaican cannot afford the trip into Kingston, particularly people in western Jamaica. Fifa is also fed up with the stadium in Kingston due to poor lighting and other amenities. This will be 100% football only facility.

The Jamaican government drop the ball after Usain Bolt broke the world record. They should have upgraded the national stadium and the trelawney stadium for sports tourism purposes. You are talking about a lot more track and field events. Preseason Football camp for premier league teams, MLS teams, USL teams, and other teams in Europe. Pretty much any outdoor sport can have preseason training in Jamaica while enjoying the great hotels. The Jamaican government just didn’t capitalize on Bolt popularity during 2008-2020.

You surprised me badly. I listen to you all the time and expect you to be much smarter than you are thinking at the moment. This is big big business. The reason why it was under utilize, its because of missed manage and the failure of governments to have an agreement with sports partners to utilize it. National stadium is a national disgrace. With this stadium the potential is massive for international games, sport clubs across the world can have camps, track meets can be held, u17 football world cup, etc.

A facility like that will only become useful, IF MONEY IS SPENT ON IT, if there are investors, there must be some kind of opportunistic trajectory, it's the same way we could ask who's putting so much money to build the Spy-Glass or Pinnacle buildings, the business is there, but we cannot fathom it, but by virtue of them wanting to spend this type of money tell us there is a great business opportunity involved, especially for tourism, we don't want to be like the opposition in who in 1962 thought the money being spent to build the National Stadium is extravagant, and that we will never be able to fill it up, look at it NOW!!!

What I don’t get is why would you care if it is being developed by private interest. even if it turn out to be an eventual failure at least it would provide some construction jobs for Jamaicans . I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. Even the original stadium development was a gift from the Chinese government. Any money being wasted in Jamaica that is private or foreign government sourced is a positive for Jamaica. Common sense will tell you that only a small fraction of of that money is going into the stadium itself. They are developing a resort complex like any other resort development in Jamaica and making the stadium the draw that distinguishes them from any other resort in Jamaica. No different than a hotel resort using a casino as a draw for their property. In fact it is smart business

Housing for the poor is a completely different venture, you're just convoluting the projection, if you take that money and build housing for the poor how will it be maintained what about water, electrical power and garbage collection etc. , it would have been better if you said create Job opportunity which would be achievable with big projects like these, it you just build houses for the poor the money would be wasted and the Country cannot afford to provide for the poor in that manner, look like you wah mash up the economy, jobs, jobs and more jobs should be the name of the game, this is where progress starts..
