DIY Tool Stand! Cheap But Sturdy. Steel And Concrete.

  • Heavy duty stand for a tool I'll restore very soon. All pieces were picked up at my local steel scrap yard so this build ended up costing me not even 5 bucks for materials.
    I filled the car rim with around 28kg of concrete so as now this stand weights at least 45kg, I thought about filling the steel tubing with concrete too to add even more weight but I choose not to so that I would still be able to move it easily. I'll see how it goes with the tool in place, if it's not solid enough I'll cut all welds to the top plate to fill the tubing with more concrete or plain sand.
    I don't remember exactly where but I think I saw this wheel and concrete design in some metalworking shop. The hand tools holder are obviously inspired by Jimmy DiResta but I went for squares instead of rounds to make it somewhat different. At 6:00 you can see me bending a piece to make if fit the round corner of the top plate.
    I hope you guys like this one as much as I do, I had alot of fun figuring out the best way to make this! :)

    I remember reading somewhere about a guy who welded a hollow anvil and filled it with a sand/oil mix. His reasoning was that the oil impregnated sand makes a great weight for steel stands that might see some knocking around since it's heavy, packs tight, deadens ringing and movement, doesn't crumble, and helps inhibit rust a bit.
    Can't say I've tried it myself on anything as it is still on the 'TODO once I get a welder' list

    Excellent idea, my only suggestion is to add 4 rotating wheels so you can roll it around the shop to where you need it. You can get locking wheels so it will stay in place when you need it to.

    • @BlackBeardProjects
      @BlackBeardProjects  Před 6 lety +1

      Go with more water so it's easier to pour! Using too much water does weaken the concrete, but I'm sure it's not a big deal here since we are using it more like a weight than anything else :)

    Do not imitate certain things that Americans do.

      2000?! All my tools together don't cost that much! :') My welder is 40€ new, I bet you can find one for less used! Same goes for the angle grinder :) Steel from scrapyard was around 5€ and a bag of concrete is like 3€ so this project is really cheap to make! I swear getting into something like this is cheap, don't let this stop you! :)
