DIY Tool Stand! Cheap But Sturdy. Steel And Concrete.

- Heavy duty stand for a tool I'll restore very soon. All pieces were picked up at my local steel scrap yard so this build ended up costing me not even 5 bucks for materials.
I filled the car rim with around 28kg of concrete so as now this stand weights at least 45kg, I thought about filling the steel tubing with concrete too to add even more weight but I choose not to so that I would still be able to move it easily. I'll see how it goes with the tool in place, if it's not solid enough I'll cut all welds to the top plate to fill the tubing with more concrete or plain sand.
I don't remember exactly where but I think I saw this wheel and concrete design in some metalworking shop. The hand tools holder are obviously inspired by Jimmy DiResta but I went for squares instead of rounds to make it somewhat different. At 6:00 you can see me bending a piece to make if fit the round corner of the top plate.
I hope you guys like this one as much as I do, I had alot of fun figuring out the best way to make this! :)

The best idea, that I liked, was the square tubing. This is a very thought out project,Thank You.
Worlds smallest slag hammer, I love it! Great build by the way!
Quick tip I learned years ago from an old friend when cutting all thread on the band saw if you spin as you cut no clean up when your done
I remember reading somewhere about a guy who welded a hollow anvil and filled it with a sand/oil mix. His reasoning was that the oil impregnated sand makes a great weight for steel stands that might see some knocking around since it's heavy, packs tight, deadens ringing and movement, doesn't crumble, and helps inhibit rust a bit.
Can't say I've tried it myself on anything as it is still on the 'TODO once I get a welder' list
Yeah I heard about that too! Sounds very reasonable to me :)
Blacksmithing tool post! Love it. Love the blue color you chose
Your channel just gave me a great idea to use the steel wheel and concrete for an umbrella stand, thank you! Tool stand looks great!
Thanks!!! Very happy to hear that :)
Fantastic, as always, my friend. You make even the most functional tools into works of art. I hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks brother.
Looks great.
Thank you my friend
wow that is so good wow.
Bench grinder!!!! Looking good man
Nope!!! Thanks pal :D
I really like the vise stand! The color is perfect. Thanks from Chile. Jim
This guy really puts a lot of effort in every video and we admire that man! :D
Amazingly creative, great job.
Def on my to do list!🤘
Excellent idea, my only suggestion is to add 4 rotating wheels so you can roll it around the shop to where you need it. You can get locking wheels so it will stay in place when you need it to.
That's a great idea! I won't add some here because it will stay outside in the dirt all the time
Like always looking great my dude👌🏽
I think that "mud" was thoroughly mixed. Nice build my Friend.
o senhor é muito inteligente parabens mestre.
LOVE every one of your video's!!!!!
awesome job
Good quality of video
Muy buena idea!! A quedado muy original buen trabajo
Great idea! Nice work
Thank you my dear :)
Really nice!
My guess is beer stand. Seriously, concrete-in-wheel-under-post is a formula for any number of sturdy tool stands. Nice work.
Bet that will come in very handy indeed. Once again great idea and job.
Vice? Your videos are excellent. The craftsmanship is top notch. And you young sir have excellent taste in music. Thank you!
Hard work payin’ up.
Looks good the top plate is for your coffee
beautiful
looks good. It looks good more if it'll spin.
If you stuck a rubber pad between the post and concrete that would make an excellent anvil stand system .
Come al solito bel lavoro !
Nice
hi b.b.p. you are a true craftsman bob in the uk 10+
Per me ci andrà su una smerigliatrice da banco, comunque grandissimo progetto come al solito 💪💪🖒
Niente smerigliatrice :) Grazie mille
Great work sir! It looked questionable at first, especially with the tape, but MAN did it come together! Especially with that paint job! Again, good work!
Excelente¡¡
Railroad anvil? Looks really sturdy!
Thanks brother :) But no!
Come sempre ottimo video, ti seguo da quando avevi due video nel canale e la qualità delle opere e dei video stessi è aumentata parecchio.
Continua così che la strada è quella giusta
Grazie mille :)
um trabalho peso pesado, concreto.
Ottimo
I'm guessing 72 inch flat screen T.V. ?? ha. Seriously, excellent job man.
Haha!! Thank you :')
you're a fucking genius!!! Love your videos. Thanks!!!
I know I'm a Monday morning Q.B. I like the basic idea, but why the plate and bolts? Just cut openngs in the tube and let the concrete fill it to the level of the top of the rim.
Es una buena idea, pero sugiero que se puede reducir los costos, asegurándose al piso con tarugos y tornillos -----
Hey brother, if you don’t mind me asking, where are you from. The tools and consumables (grease, rust converter) etc don’t look familiar. Another damn good video!
Отлично придумано.
Where can I get a little chipping Hammer like that
Forge!!!
I would have run nuts midway down the bolts to provide more stability within the cement. Other than that great project!
looks awesome dude!! another great piece! how about maybe a japanese tanto sometime? hahaha just a sugestion because that is my favourite knife haha still a big fan
Thanks Jordan! I appreciate your suggestion :) Added to my ideas list!
Black Beard Projects awesome! the japanese just have the nicest knives in my opinion haha
Do a video to make a forge out of a rim
Looks good! I think it’s too light and to tall to be a anvil stand, I’m gonna go with maybe a spot for a forge?
Thanks pal! Not for an anvil as you have guessed :)
Aaaaand another one on the to do list 😑😂 I love the idea !!
Can't stand those hammers always laying around somewhere
Haha! Thank you my friend :)
Where do you get your music?
I like it. Wicked stand
Thank you my friend! I always list music in the video descritpion :) btw your vise video was great too!!
Ahh thats awesome. Im subscribed to ross now too. Always looking for great royalty free music.
I can't stand that ?????? music ???
I liked it all the way until you painted it blue... WHY???
But without making jokes, WOW... That's a great tool stand !!!
Thanks mate! I want to leave this outside, painted all to hopefully prevent some rust. But I don't have high hopes! :'D
The blue was great, but leaving the concrete the original color could have added contrast. All in all, amazing job and so easy! Love it!
Hey nice project! you should try to powdercoat things to avoid rust, although it's tricky to do on big pieces
Are there step by step instructions on these?
where are you from? I see your wall plug is european so i guess....
great video and great stand. my problem witj making such a thingy: I would first need any tool to place there. I would love to one day play a belt grinder there for knifemaking 😍
I just cut up a piece of galvanized steel grating and welded it onto my smithing table, much easier.
I would have put sand in the center post. It'll deaden any sound.
Yeah I thought about that! But It was already very heavy so I left it empty for now :) Also, is not for an anvil so I'm not really concerned about sound dampening :)
Добрый вечер.Как лучше крепить внизу на болты или приварить к диску ?
El unico camentario en ESPAÑOL ●○•°
Talk about heavy duty. Wow. Nice
If you do t mind me asking, what kind of camera do you use for your videos? It comes out great. Thanks man
Thank you! I use a Canon G7X mII
Awesome, thanks man.
Cool project, as always! I might be stealing you this design sooner or later!! :D
Is it going to be holding an anvil? Or a vice?
Would be great! :) Thank you!! You got it, one of the two!
Would this be stable enough as an Anvil stand?
Not for a big one... I would go for wood as anvil base :)
A gas forge for sure !!
Haha! It's not, I'm sorry
It's probably for a vice.
He did end up putting an old leg vise on it, great guess!
giving my unwanted video suggestion.. can u make a damascus sword?
I would love to :') But I don't know how to make a sword yet, damascus either! Haha! Thanks for the suggestion, always appreciated!
such a cool specialist, his head thinks, and his hands are golden, but as a welding engineer, to see that welding is on painting, so cry
Railroad anvil goes on top i guess.
Why have the bandsaw guard so high? Just curious as it's making me cringe a little bit watching it. As a whole, awesome video though. Nailed the concrete volume perfectly.
Thanks man! :D The guard is as low as it can go in first shot and at 5:30 is pretty much as close to the tubing as it can possibly be :) Maybe the camera angle makes it look wierd! But I always adjust it I swear :')
When your girlfriend is asking :
-who are you eating breakfast with?
-oh, with this strange Black Beard Gut. You dont know him...
:D
супер
What kind of rod was that?
looks like M12 thread rod
M14! But M12 would work just as fine :)
Dude, what a welds..The only chance for them to pass inspection is if inspector is blind
Grinder circle?
Nope! :) No grinders
Black Beard Projects I give up 😂😂
Bench Grinder?
Nope! :)
but why did not you add the blue dye to the concrete? The concrete would turn blue ...
So why blue again ??
When u mixed the concrete, was it a thin mixture (more water than used in small construction jobs) or thick mixture (less water)??
Go with more water so it's easier to pour! Using too much water does weaken the concrete, but I'm sure it's not a big deal here since we are using it more like a weight than anything else :)
Good job, bad habit of not using the guard on the grinder.
Do not imitate certain things that Americans do.
But two hammers to the rim could give it! ;-)
Bel lavoro, brutto vizio quello di non usare la guardia sulla smeriglio.
Non imitare certe cose che fanno gli americani.
Però due martellate al cerchione potevi darle! ;-)
That's the smallest chipping hammer I've ever seen lol
I'd say anvil... But I hope not, as I think the base will eventually shatter
Not an anvil :)
Gas forge
Nope :) But I would like to make one of those too!
ANVIL
Anvil
When in doubt, use duct tape. Yay.
Haha! Rule 1 about making
Vise?
Post Vise?
grinder duh
Great job except for the bird shit welds :)
Another person who wears the camera and plays back on fast play. Makes people dizzy and feel nausea.
Sure. We can all build a $50 stand if we have $2000 in welding and milling equipment. So tired of these "DIY" vids.
2000?! All my tools together don't cost that much! :') My welder is 40€ new, I bet you can find one for less used! Same goes for the angle grinder :) Steel from scrapyard was around 5€ and a bag of concrete is like 3€ so this project is really cheap to make! I swear getting into something like this is cheap, don't let this stop you! :)
Nice
