Straight ti the point man thank you! You are the ONLY one with the repair video for this. Bought a used one from marketplace and as always, something is wrong lol. I believe the pump is good but the wheel motors on this same exact model Gravely are about gone. Thanks for this video on the repair for in case the pump needs repalced.

PURGE THE AIR BY JACKING THE REAR TIRES OFF THE GROUND AND STROKING THE HANDLES BACK AND FORTH TILL YOU SEE NO BUBBLES IN THE RESERVE TANK ( MAY TAKE UP TO 1 HOUR) THEN AFTER THAT LET THE UNIT SIT FOR 24 HOURS

I have watched every video I could find on hydrostatic transmission problems with zero turn Mowers and the one common thread that I have found that is present with all of them is the Mowers are ALWAYS NEVER CLEAN. You can tell that they have been maintained at the minimal level if not poorly maintained. People who clean their Mowers and equipment do not have near as many maintenance issues as those that do not. I think the biggest culprit in most hydraulic failures is contamination from outside particles. This is also backed up by research and my experience with operating heavy equipment. Hydraulics have to be inspected and maintained on a regular basis or they will not hold up. Not changing fluid on a regular basis and not constantly inspecting for leaks will cause the hydraulic system to degrade exponentially. Just my two cents...

Hey Jeremy, my kinda video. When you got some grunting and tool dropping you know that's a real mechanic. The video work was good as you could make it. I like the fact that you showed the steps and didn't show the whole job (as you said that would be about a 4 hour video).
What I'm really interested in is the cost for all of that repair. I have a Gravely that is similar to that model and it veers and since there is no service dealer in the area it has missed needed servicing.
I'd like to get this thing back into service but I don't want to be taken for a ride on the cost.
    Thanks again, good job!

Question for a mower expert: I have a scag wildcat with play in the left stick. The left side also goes slower than the right and tends to lock up the wheel when pulling back on left stick. Pump or wheel motor?

    • @8307c4
      @8307c4 Před 3 lety

First pull the wheel off and you may have a hub but inspect the insides there to make sure nothing is binding, not sure how the scag works but several mowers have brake systems integrated into the wheels, if any of those parts or something else broke and come loose and ... I realize the problem isn't likely there but it's where I would start, by ruling out the obvious. Also make sure you have enough fluid in the tank(s).

which is likely to be damaged in pulling a heavy load to where the wheel motor is stalled? The pump runs at a constant rpm supplying hydraulic oil to the wheel motor. You would think it is a matched set and that a stalled condition is expected to survive. without damage.

Very informative video. I am hoping that this is not what I have to do. My Husqvarna zero turn recently had the idler pulley break. I disengaged the freewheel so I could tow it home. After getting the pulley put on, and re engaging the freewheel, the mower went very slow. After troubleshooting, I determined there was air in the line. After purging the transmission several times, it ran fast again. Only to discover that my right hand turns are very slow when I use the left lever. When I push the left handle (which turns it right) all the way forward I slow down. I have even purged just the left side hoping that would fix it but it didn't. I ended up cutting using left hand turns more often to get the job done. Can you tell me if you think it is this motor? Thanks, Erica

I had them rebuild it and it changed nothing now they say it’s the wheel motor but I have to change them both. Curious what your thoughts are. I’m in $800 now and they’re saying an additional 2k from a previous install on someone else but if they can do it for less they will. Meaning I can get the parts at cost.

Hey Jeremy... just recently acquired a Woods R2048 zero turn that seems to run well (motor on it at least) but has it's share of problems. First of all doesn't have much power going forward (left side has more than right), I can go back and forth to gain power and will eventually go okay on level ground but must do most inclines in reverse. Someone replaced the original motor with a 14.5 hp and I'm wondering if that would be giving me the issues I'm having that seem like hydro problems? I think I will start with changing fluid and filters because I don't know if they've been changed or not, making sure no leaks anywhere and purging system of air. Any other suggestions???

I have a Gravely 260z and have replaced the Hubs and can not get the hub all the way up on the spindle to seat, stops short of the cotter pin hole by 1/8" or 3/16", the hub nut goes on with a couple of treads showing. Had to use a car hub puller to get the old one off. I did grease the spindle shaft before installing the new one and did align the keyway. Any thoughts

Great video! Question, what does your shop use for reference? Do you have something like AllData like the automotive shops have to show mechanical and electrical breakdowns and reference diagrams? Or, is there such a thing?

Hi Jeremy. I have a Bunton zero turn that is chattering on the left side. The unit is still pulling and has good power but is weaker than the other side. My question is how do determine if it is the pump or the wheel motor?
Thanks for your time. I think it is the wheel motor but not sure.

Hey mm1 thanks so much for the video! Great help! Where did you find the parts for this? My 32" Gravely zero turn just started spewing oil from where I believe is the wheel motor. Do I need to replace the pumps too? It has 830 hours on the motor. Is it worth paying for the parts? Thanks for your help

I just bought 2 new pumps and wheel motors for my Bobcat ZT-225 from Mulligans and saved over $600 than if I had ordered from anyone else. To replace all of it would have normally been $2,600.00. I got OEM parts for $1,850.00. Mine is an older mower but I just had the heads done about 3 years ago, just put a new clutch and all new belts on it last season and put tubes in all of the tires along with new front bearings so it was worthwhile for me. I looked and there was no way I could buy a new mower that was equal to what I have

What machine are you doing this video on? I can't seem to find pump numbers on my pumps but looks like the mower I have.

Hope my issue is not with hydraulics but...
I have an Exmark lazer z hp and the right steering arm is about 5" out in front of the left arm. Mower moves great and turns accordingly but the arms not being even is weird.
What would be the cause and what is the remedy?

what does a repair like this typically cost? Thinking about buying a toro 74601 says needs pumps, I'm guessing it will need the wheel motors too.
