Robert De Niro brings back my memories of the movie, Awakenings. An experience that I am all too familiar with. Being reduced to a vegetable is not a good experience. It is not good when the doctors totally ignore the actual cause of the problem and simply think you are suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It took me 8 years to recover, to be able to read again, to no longer have to read words letter by letter to recognize them, to be able to write again, to know how to spell my brothers name again, to know again the names of people I had known for many years, to have a short term memory functioning again, to have full physical awareness again, and so on, and so on. Damn bloody doctors.
i was an extra in that movie, my first movie! It was a freezing cold night shoot, and we were in period wardrobe-short skirts. DeNiro came over and chatted us up between shots.
