But I think that under the direction of a proper director(i.e.Scorsese) and are given the correct roles for their personalities, then they can make one last great movie. Deserved, but I can't avoid not feeling a bit sad about John Hurt missing his chance. His performance in The Elephant Man was one for the ages and just as timeless as De Niro's. In my perfect world, both should have been recognized.
Still the greatest single screen performance I've ever seen by De Niro in Raging Bull. Pity for Peter O'Toole though not winning again, the Academy should be embarrassed never ever getting this magnificent actor over the line - but 1981 he didn't stand a chance. Sally Field was a total fox back then, gorgeous woman.
