      My 2012 GMC Duramax CP4 crapped out at 65K in 2018. Luckily my local GM dealer helped with cost, but it was still 3K. Now I am at 130K and looking to do the CP3 conversion, which will be close to 3K just for the 50 state kit.

    Question fir your why not offer the DCR for the duramax ? Just out of curiosity its been well proven on the powerstroke and we know for sure there is no tuning required and ive found the no tuning required to be false it needs PW adjustments and pressure table alterations to allow it to run correctly ?

    • @SSfueled
      @SSfueled  Před 11 dny

      It has been discussed, yet the CP3 has a long track record for durability. One could say that it is more proven than a DCR. Have you been using S&S No Tuning Required CP3 Conversion kits? We've been selling that product for nearly a decade and this is the first time we have had a report of an S&S No Tuning Required or CARB kit that requires adjustments. To our knowledge, we have the only CP3 conversion that doesn't require any tuning... even if others advertise as such.

    • @haydendenard2693
      @haydendenard2693 Před 11 dny +1

      @SSfueled minor petty changes to the pressure PW tables to make it run its best minor driveability primarily it usually makes the read pedal worse on a bone stock truck I'm not knocking the product it's a well put together kit ive put a bunch of the CP3 conversions in and a bunch if DCR kits and NEVER had the first issue with the DCR . I completely agree the CP3 has a legendary track record though I've never had one set codes but if you log it you'll see some wonky demands on the metering valve on the verge of setting a code probably and this doesn't happen for me on every truck it seems to be hit or miss but ive always been able to make it work I am about to put one in my personal truck was just curious about the possibility of a DCR it it was on the works or not

    I’ve had my LML for 12 years now, I always change the fuel filter at regular intervals and buy fuel from reputable service stations with lots of traffic, not from the back country stations with old rotted out tanks. This advice to go CP3 aftermarket seems a bit overkill unless you live on the edge and fill with contaminated fuel.

      That's been our experience as well. But since we rely on our truck for EVERYTHING, when we did a rebuild for a head gasket, we went ahead and did the Cp3 swap at the same time. It's simply a better designed pump, check out videos on it vs the CP4.

      The 50 State has a dosing line for emissions equipment and is what the vast majority of trucks will need. The No Tuning Required will have the same pump curve as a CP4, but it is for competition vehicles that will never be driven on the street.

    I read a lot of comments regarding the relative lack of reliability of the CP4 pumps, but no one ever provides any hard data. What is the actual failure rate of the CP4?

    • @SSfueled
      @SSfueled  Před 2 lety

      Great question. The OEs do not publish that data, yet there has been enough to warrant a law suit. We think it is compounded by the amount of damage done when the pump does fail.

    • @davncingilbert6662
      @davncingilbert6662 Před 11 měsíci

      The failure rate seems to be only around 4-7%, and has much to do with the fuel quality. Bosch (a European co.) designed these for use with European diesel, which has more sulfur (lubrication) than US "low sulfur" diesel. Apparently, GM didn't take this into account. So, people with access to quality diesel, who have lift pumps/filters, and use lubricity additives will not likely have an issue. Our truck had 122,000 mi before getting a Cp3, and had no issues other than a head gasket failure. (We didn't add a lift pump/additives until about 90,000 mi) Another consideration: We travel full-time in a camper, and get fuel from many different areas, vs one town.

      My 2015 lost the cp4 twice ,once at 70000km (45,000 miles) with warranty then again at 170000km (108000 miles) which cost me $12,000 Ca to clean the system and install a CP3 Kit and that was with changing filters regularly . The CP4 will fail its just a matter of when.

    • @SSfueled

      That is the No Tuning Required CP3. It has been modified to match the factory CP4 pump curve. It does not have an increase in output capability but the amperage to output curve has been modified to match the CP4 so that the ECU can properly control it.

    Does running a CP3 at CP4 pressure cause excessive wear on the pump?

    • @SSfueled
      @SSfueled  Před rokem +3

      Great question. Even though the CP3 is an 1800-bar-rated pump, it will handle much more than that without excessive wear. The rating is related to pump efficiency and a CP4 has less leakage at higher pressure due to having a smaller bore. Even though the CP3 is slightly less efficient at pressures above 1800 bar, it can easily maintain pressures that exceed 2500 bar and still have better durability than a CP4.

    • @SSfueled

      No need to change the pump. It will act just like the original CP4 that came on the truck, yet be more durable.
