  • From a 1931 short film "drama" with courtroom judge Rudy Vallee charging Betty with disturbing the national musical peace. Mae Questel was the voice of Betty Boop (and Olive Oyl) in most of the Max Fleischer cartoons

    it is so hard to imagine that, even tho the sounds quality is crap, and so is the video quality, that those guys actually percieved the world no different than us. that thought makes me feel... kind of uneasy

      @@TK-ij2xi it means that the quality of film and sound has become so good in our time that it’s a very good representation of everyday life as we perceive it with our own eyes. But when you watch old media like this, the sound and visual quality is so odd and unnatural that you almost need to remind yourself that the world didn’t actually look and sound this way at all. Little kids sometimes believe that the world was once actually black and white just from watching old movies.

    • @TK-ij2xi
      @TK-ij2xi Před 3 lety +1

      @@ek7675 No, I don't think so. It's the uneasy part that caught me off guard.
      Besides the point, why aren't people exposing their kids to old film, that's a travesty. Old film, favorite sitcoms & cartoons, music from 100 years ago & forward - they should know the history. If they think the world was in black & white someone dropped the ball.

    She had an amazingly long career and still had the Betty Boop voice in her 80s just as she did as a 20-something in this clip. Her rendition of the faux 1920's hit song "Chameleon Days" for the soundtrack of the movie "Zelig" in 1983 still makes me laugh. The lyrics, accompanying instrumentals, and her spot-on 1920's style of delivery were priceless.

    This is great! On August 12th, 1977, I got to interview Rudy Vallee’ in his room at Holiday Inn Carowinds. Then he treated me to lunch at the restaurant. Invited me and friend Carl Rhyne to his one man show at the Pineville Dinner Theater. It was wonderful! His little poodle Mimi was with him and, although he said she was not friendly and affectionate she sat on my lap. He said, “She’s never kissed me, never shown me any affection but she is sitting in your lap which is most unusual.” You should have heard his tales! They’d make a sailor blush!

      Not surprising! Both Lucille Ball and her daughter Lucie Arnaz agreed that he infuriated them when guesting on 'Here's Lucy' via swearing a blue streak on the set and acting surprised when Lucy asked him to tone things down in front of her kids- to say nothing of blaming whoever was nearest to him for anything going wrong but never accepting responsibility for any missteps.

And now this habit is right at home in the heart of me, without it im no good know how. you can feed me bread and water or a great big bale of hay but dun take my boop-oop-a-doop away. You can say my voice is awful or my songs are too risque but dun take my boop-oop-a-doop away. I feel like a lonesome barrel without a hoop, if u should deprive me of my boop-oop-a-doop, boop-oop-a-doop.
