The Gunfighter | A Short Film by Eric Kissack (narrated by Nick Offerman)

- In a small town in the old west, a lone and weary gunfighter enters a saloon. As he walks through the room surrounded by the people of the town, a voice begins narrating the scene, telling us exactly who this gunfighter is. But unlike every classic western to use the
narrator trope, the characters in this film can hear the voice.
This omniscient narrator quickly begins divulging the deepest, darkest secrets of the people in the saloon. He exposes infidelity, homosexuality, prejudice and even a bit of bestiality. As the story unfolds it becomes evident that the voice is a bloodthirsty bastard that wants nothing more than to see the people of the town kill each other in a needless gunfight.

I forgot the technical name of it but this is a strategy used in theatres and the cinema. You portray an ideology in a foreign setting, so that people can judge that ideology objectively.
Because, if you portray it in a relatable setting, people can take it personally and their judgement will be biased.
I like this one better than the typical hollywood movie, where they think simply casting women or colored people as the pratogonist will make a change.

I concur,
Who ever wrote this, is a genius.
Said Mark Tucker, however....
Whoever wrote this is a predictable turd. It might have been funny forty years ago. But now it is just more entertainment group think bullshit. Now if they were brave to go on the other side and deconstruct politically correct tropes, I would be impressed. As is, its just one more lame attempt at making manliness seem out dated. Its not.

Yea but it’s still funny and has a lot of dark humour which isn’t exactly predictable. And why the hell would they go on the political side of things? This is a comedy and that’s such an obvious reason so I don’t get why ur disappointed at that.

a sequel? everyone is dead bro
The sequel is one scene, one minute long, of the itchy whore getting mauled by a rabid wolf.
"The wolf circled around itself a couple of times before settling down to digest Sarah's left thigh, without a smidge of awareness that it had just contracted the sheep clap from her. It peacefully dozed off to the sound of the ethereal voice it couldn't understand, but whose Swnansonian cadence it found deeply comforting. Little did it know that a bear would shred it to pieces five minutes later to snatch away the rest of Sarah's mortal remains, in a truly awesome ballet of apex predator death."

This is so well made and produced. The clothes and atmosphere is on POINT and perfect! I wish this was a whole complete film.
It IS a whole complete film. It's perfect because it's exactly the length the story requires; if it were blown up to feature length the director and scriptwriter would have to throw in extra not-quite-as-good material to provide that extra hour or two.

So badly needs a sequel... or something similar not even related to this. Brilliantly done
I first saw this movie a year or two ago. I see lots of people here saying they wish it could be a full length movie. I think that would be exhausting for the audience. To process everything that's going on that they ( masterfully) cram into eight minutes, and Be that intense for 90 minutes?
Somebody mentioned Buster Scruggs being on that level. I saw that in pieces. It too is Well done and perhaps easier to digest since it is broken into at least four distinct parts. At least that's what I recall of it. Do good
The fact that you got Nick Offerman to narrate this just makes it great.
This was the most enjoyable 8 minutes I’ve had in a long time. I would actually look forward to this being a regular series show
It's perfect as it is, why dilute it? If it were a series this would be the one perfect episode and the rest would be the good-to-just-ok episodes that were produced to fill out a season.
This is cinema in the grand tradition. Perfect setting, perfect story, perfect acting, perfect photography. It's an entire story, it plays in a single room.
This is how you tell story.
This is a brilliant piece of work and I remember having seen it 6 years, or so, ago.
