Harry James Orchestra with Helen Forrest singing "He's 1-A In The Army"

This was filmed at the beginning of World War II on the same movie sets as the feature film Private Buckaroo but this clip is very rare. Helen Forrest shows why she was the number one band singer.

I Surrender Dear (complete Bing Crosby-Mack Sennett comedy,1931)
zhlédnutí 16KPřed 10 lety
Bing Crosby sings and reveals for the first time on film that he has a natural gift for comedy. Mack Sennett had enjoyed international success as a producer of silent comedy films but his only successes in the sound era were the group of short films first starring Bing Crosby and then W.C, Fields. This is the film that got the series off to a great start. I can only find one or two songs excerp...

Tom Snyder hosts a roundtable discussion with Ella Mae Morse, Margaret Whiting, Lina Romay, Kay Starr and very rare video of two singers from an earlier era: Aileen Stanley (sang Broadway Blues for Victor in 1920) and Loyce Whiteman of Coconut Grove fame who is seen at greater length in part 2
Muggsy Spanier "At The Jazzband Ball"
zhlédnutí 89KPřed 10 lety
There is not very much video on classic age trumpeter Muggsy Spanier, pianist Joe Sullivan or clarinetist Darnell Howard bassist Pops Foster, so this meeting in a 1960s San Francisco tv studio under the guidance of host Ralph Gleason is a real treasure.
Benny Goodman small group with George Benson salutes John Hammond (1975)
zhlédnutí 15KPřed 10 lety
These two numbers immediately precede the sextet recreation I have previously posted. The clip ends with Goodman's rather inadequate spoken introduction to that swinging performance. The clip begins with four minutes of talk between Goddard Lieberson, John Hammond, Jerry Wexler and Benny Goodman. The group is Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, Red Norvo, Milt Hinton, Jo Jones and George Benson (solo ...

Sonny Terry harmonica blues holler

In this 1975 clip from a tv tribute to John Hammond, Terry recounts how he signed up for the Broadway run of Finian's Rainbow and then performs his unique harmonica number which I assume is the one he performed every night onstage.
Ferde Grofe (rare film conducting orchestra)
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed 10 lety
Ferde Grofe is best remembered as Paul Whiteman's chief arranger, but in this clip Grofe is seen conducting a performance of his own composition "Mississippi Suite". You have to wait for 1 minute until the long shot changes to a medium close-up.

A Treasure ! Two TREASURES ,..oh I remember them well…
Now Maurice-- you and Sophie now take over the theatre, the show and the stage. What a gracious introduction. Hard not to cry at this one.
That. Was. Awesome. Especially "I Rememnber it Well". "Am I getting old?' Oh no! Not you"
Wow! :) The great Ann Miller!
Sat here with a silly grin on my face. Magical stuff from Maurice and Sophie

This sounds like a forerunner of bebop….GEORGE is successfully recreating CHARLIE CHRISTIAN STYLE.
Very charming!
Beautiful
Wow!
"Clark is your house on fire"😅
Why can’t we go back to entertainment like this? Of course we don’t have Ethel anymore, but wouldn’t it be nice?! And, NY, get off your duff and name a theater after her already!!!!! Show some respect!!
don't throw her down Clark
Blessed EXTRA SPECIAL MEMORIES!!!❤❤
Apart from the touching singers of a bygone era, please listen hard to the orchestra--jamming like nothing you've ever heard soon after 8:00. Turn up the volume, frighten your neighbors! It's incredibly thrilling! And Sullivan's initial reaction, smiling broadly, arms outstretched and shaking his head with awe and amazement--this is the music he grew up hearing with some added muscle! Compare to his stony-faced reaction to most acts.
Angels singing in heaven who where practicing on earth ❤❤❤❤
0:29 "We must take away your Boop Boop Ba-doop" im howling
Amen! Love these saints!❤❤
Great History
Magnificent!
I had heard her name mentioned, inconnection with Noel Coward, but this is the first time I've seen /heard her, and I'm impressed. Such a perfect voice for live performances.
Excelentes Voces, cada una con su estilo y personalidad.
Me Encanta ❤
Love that NY accent ❤
Is rusty still in the Navy?Dont thrown me down Clark.
The "Merm" nails it every time. RIP great one.
Beautifully done
WE'LL BE UP THERE FOREVER AND EVER TO BEHOLD HIS FACE BRIGHT AND FAIR. AMEN.
I can't watch this enough! One of my favorite performances on CZcams! 2 ICONS!!
Instead of saying 'woman with legs' let's say: "Legs with Woman" ! 🤩
All of the performers stellar. The drummer from Vincent Lopez’ band was stealing the show.
Mae questel is cute ❤❤❤❤ rip 🪦 we still love you
Not guilty, boop boop e doop
Wow! This is so wonderful to see, a true entertainer. Thank you for posting this, it's a gem.
This was such a gift. 🎁 Thank you!
She does a wonderful performance of is that all there is the song that Peggy Lee made famous and she does a great job. I think it was on the television show, but I could never find it on CZcams.
I've never been much of a Sandy Duncan fan, but she puts this number to bed! Her singing is wonderful, but her dancing is unbelievable. She is animated, alive and open. Just perfect in this role.
