As always, thanks for joining and hitting the subscribe button to follow my journey.
How do you filter your aquarium?
I use internal sump, diy 6" abs pipe, hiding behind rockscape... 150gallon
I've honestly been thinking about the canister and maybe changing the aquascape.
@@spicyreef keep the sump as it’s very effective :) I just did canister because I like the look of glass pipes
Internal filter, internal skimmer (tunze set)
Not sure. But i thought the black are 60ppi,blue 45ppi and orange 30ppi?
@@Mikeymikemike yup, when I say internal sump, I'm talking about inside the display and hidden behind rockscape... I spent about $20 on it, including the pump.
That's actually a very nice setup. The combination of the removable pre-filter and chaeto reactor addresses 99% of the issues with a canister filter.
Your tank and set up is amazing. Great job and thank you for sharing. Cheers :)
That reef is one of a kind.Im thinking on, using the canster filter on my new low boy.Thanks.
Hey bro, came across your channel. I’m loving the concept of the clean and simple maintenance reef tank. I’ve been studying every video you had put out. Believe it or not I’m getting ready to set up my 45g cube which was a planted tank before. I had it sitting for a year. Came across your channel and I was hooked. Thanks for the inspiration brother keep reefing hope to see more of your reef.
I run a classic sump but love to see how others tackle problems. You are so right about the divisive nature of reefers. If it works for you then you should be happy but if it works for your reef then you have truly won. Great vid again Mike!
Following your setup! Super fascinated by it and want to give it a go! Thanks for the video look forward to future ones!
Thanks and best wishes!
Thanks so much for sharing. It’s nice to see there are other methods of filtering a reef tank! Very nice aquarium, by the way! That wrasse that you got, they are difficult to keep. Glad that you’re successful with it!! Awesome!!
You give me hope for what I'm about to embark on.
I don't have room for a sump and just had a custom tank built before I decided I'm going to attempt a marine tank instead of making another freshwater tank as originally planned.
Your tank has the perfect aquascape and is the nicest I've ever seen!!!
Very interresting, results speak for itself. You get a thumbs up.
Thank you! You get a thumbs up too! Glad you joined us here!
I have a smaller version of this filter on my fresh water aquarium and love it... in a few months I will convert it to a salt water tanks and decided to keep it for filtration instead of buying a sump.
Thanks for this, the "stigma" of canister filters in the salt water part of the hobby could change thanks to amazing display tanks like yours.
Hi Mike, I have been running a 4 ft reef tank for about 15 years with 2 Eheim professional 4 with sponge pads on inlet pipes and a hang on skimmer with no problems 😊
Love the tank!! I was setting up a 90 gallon reef tank. I was talked out of Canisters. Sump is ok. I have used Canisters for freshwater for years! Definitely adding a Canister for my reef! Thanks for the video!
I love this because of the concept that there are many paths to success. I love that. I was very against canister filters on saltwater for many years and found myself in a position where this would be best for a particular tank at this time. You have a new follower!
but how do you remove ammonia? add air to the water and host more good bacteria ? i love the idea but there is something left out of this i would need to see before id risk my reef to a canister. and more often then not with the canister i have. its builds up air inside of it. then spits a fin cloud of it into the tank ever few and keeps the fowlr tank i use it on cloudy with tiny air bubbles unless i go shake it every day. i hate the thing $550 of disappointment. although its not quite like his i still do not see a way to gas exchange.
Very interesting thoughts to think about, great job breaking down the info for us! One thing I do have to say is that wow I love having a sump so I can put extra corals down there haha. Keep up the great work looking forward to the next one
Thank you!!
Amazing stuff mike would love to see you start another tank where we can follow the bike series and learn from the scaping to the equipment
Great idea! I have a plan to do this :) Thanks for the motivation!
Great stuff. Ran a marine tank for years with a canister filter. Have to ensure the canister filter is marine specific over freshwater. Protein skimming off the surface oils of the water was always the biggest headache.
I run a Nano Max with an Oase canister filter and since I turned it on my NO3 and PO4 has stabilized.
I love it and am now starting a Shalow 120x50x30 centimeters with Oase.
Is a great method.
Greetings from Germany.
Great! please share your success with us and best wishes to you!
Great video Mikey, the tank looks amazing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Great video. Not sure if I have missed any videos however, would love to see how you have set up the media in the main filter body and how the reactor connects up through the filter and all works as one system?
Thanks. I was thinking about trying this.
Amazing work and reef!
Great video buddy. I have a pre filter thingy similar to yours only it is outside the canister filter... 3 grades of sponge and i add a final layer of filter floss on top of those. I have both ends of the scale.... a 40 gallon budget system I learned the hobby with (now 5 years old and full of my mistakes) and a 1 year old ecotech run 125 gallon (minus many of the mistakes but still far from completion). Check em out when you get a spare 5 minutes.. Not in same ball park as you, but the fact I have to frag regularly is proof enough of its success. 😂😂🏴🐠
I am a paranoid reefer and so have a sump as well as a canister filter! My canister filter has 3 layers of different foams from fine to course. It also has built in UV, 2 bags of sintered glass and ceramic tubes. The main downside is that I have to take the filter apart to get to the trays and rinse everything through which takes be about 20 minutes twice a week. In my sump I have a filter sock, a skimmer, live rock, my heaters and carbon in the return chamber. I don't mind the work as long as I see the benefits!
Very good to hear. If you could simplify it, what would you do?
Very inspiring video. Thank you. Greetings from Russia. Running soft reef on canister filter. I don` use any prefilter. I believe that canister filter a nice home for beneficial bacteria and zooplankton, that decompose anу organic get there. And most big of my problem nowdays - zeroing out nutrients N/P.
Yes my problem is zero out N and P you are right!
Would be great to see how you go about water changes, how to prepare and change, etc.
Subbed!!! I'm going for a saltwater set up just like yours Mikey!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
I don't run any filtration. Just a wave maker and twice a week I drop in a small surface skimmer to remove the surface film.
Really enjoying your videos, look forward to seeing many more.
That's a good idea! I would take off the canister filter off if I could but it would require an internal heater... I think our corals are actually very good filters
I am a great believer in diversity and would like more molluscs and tube worms as well varieties of coral. Money is the issue at the moment, so it's a slow process.
When I first started reefing coming from freshwater 22 years ago I ran my reef with 2 Fluval canister filers and 1 Marineland canister. I still have a couple corals from that first system. It can be done. I don't think there is more maintenance needed just maybe more frequent. Great video.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying these videos and feel free to request a topic :)
I adopted the same filtration method as you. It's so simple and easy to maintain.
I hope it works out well for you, keep us updated!
How can you connect the oase to the tunze reactor?, i have them both, but my oase has 16 MM hose output and tunze 20 MM input
@@Mikeymikemikehow do you connect the two together?
How did you connect the two together?
@jjj14
I started off with AIO tanks and it felt like a must to have a sump, so on my tank upgrade that’s what i went for but although there’s some good features of having one….. I’m not fully sold that it’s worth it and I’m seriously thinking of going canister in then future. The only thing I would miss is a skimmer but not having gurgling noises, limited space, a tank with a black/blue backing and having it drilled, harder to fix leaks, less plugs, and it’s easier for anyone looking after your tank whilst your away because it’s contained in one unit and a lot of people have had a tropical tank before and use to working with one.
I think you’re into something. Consider why certain suppliers/companies don’t promote canister. Imagine all the sales of stuff they would miss out on 🤔🤔
Thanks man really appreciate you had taken my suggestion into consideration! very helpful great job !!!!:)
:) I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@Mikeymikemike very thanks bro
I'm using sump with roller filter and skimmer. It works well too.
Results speak for themselves. I prefer sumps personally but that is a beautiful display.
I've ran canister filters since the beginning and that was 12 years ago. Never had an issue. Not quite sure why canister filters are hated in the salt water community. There's definitely not science involved with their claims. Currently running 2 FX4's on my 150 and loving it!! Great content!
well those 2 fx4's brand new cost less then a single average sump and that's just the tank no other equipment included.
so ofcoz manufactures will state all the potential downsides to their competitors product and so will those manufactures loyal customers :D
@@MrDon967 Your comment makes no sense. Who is downing who? The topic is canister filters. Try to stay on topic
Manufacturers and loyal customers of sump downing canisters?
I don’t see how that was confusing
@@MrDon967 Ahhhh I got you!! My bad. At first your comment didn't register. I get you now. And yes...you are absolutely correct!!! 💯
What you have inside your two fx4?
Hi Mike,
Marvelous video/s. I run an Oase 850 with the heater, and I love it. And I run a twist 9 watt UV. Where and how would I hook up the Tunze Algae Reactor? And those wonderful clear glass pipes going into the tank.
Maybe you could do a video just showing how all that is hooked up and installed? It looks super!
Thanks
Absolutely love your videos.
I have an eheim Ecco pro 300 canister filter on my 125 litre reef tank.
The filter has a pre filter which is great but then in the bottom filter basket I put a course sponge and some floss. Mechanical filtration, then in the middle basket I have aquaforest life bio, biological filtration and then in the top basket I have aquaforest phosphate minus layered between two pieces of floss, chemical filtration.
The problem is after a few days the floss starts to get blocked and the filter keeps releasing bubbles into the aquarium.
I then have to change all the pieces of floss after a few days, which means removing all the filter baskets to change the floss and because I’m taking the filter baskets out of the filter every few days I’m constantly disturbing the aquaforest life bio so the biological filtration is being disturbed and can’t do it’s job properly.
Perhaps remove the sponge and filter floss. What I do is put the gfo in a mix with carbon and place it in a media bag. That way you don’t need sponges or floss to trap it. It is much cleaner that way, Hope this helps :)
@@Mikeymikemike thank you. I will give that a try.
It would be great if you left a link to the products you show even though you aren’t sponsored. Those clip on and clip off pipes to the lily pipes, what are they? I’ve used lily pipes but found it impossible to take them away from the aquarium to clean them so now I’ve discontinued using them. This looks brilliant but don’t know what they are.
Great looking tank by the way and great to see you managing keeping it all even without a skimmer.👏🏻
You can use the eheim or ista quick release taps :) I don't link to stores since I cannot vouch for their delivery or quality of service :) But a quick search by anyone should yield results to their preferred shop. I will be more considerate of the making sure product descriptions are clearly mentioned to help people search.
You are absolutely right it is perfectly acceptable to use a canister filter on a reef aquarium. My first saltwater fish aquarium was in 1965 when I was 12 years old. Before the 1980s no one had any idea for the most part about sump filtration, we used under gravel filtration or hang on the back filter box, or canister filtration, I’ve used all of them and canister filters can be used in much of the same way as sumps, each have their advantages and disadvantages. One does not necessarily have to have a sump fitted with a mechanical protein skimmer to remove organic waste, there are other ways to get rid of organics, both mechanical removal and chemical media removal, in other words there is more than one way to skin a cat.
It is completely bogus that the only way to a successful reef aquarium is a sump. I’ve had success since way before sumps caught on. A sump is highly desirable though and can even be made into a biological display itself, which is pretty cool.
Nothing worse than narrow minded hobbyist in my opinion. GOOD VIDEO!👍
Great content
Awesome man I love it
Great set up just wondering do your canister out let go straight into tunze reactor and also what bio media do you use would like to see whats inside canister beautiful tank
Did you do a video of how the tunze unit is hooked up? I'm running a cannister with my tank and that's def something that's missing from my setup
Do you have a link where you purchased this canister from? Love your informational videos!
Have you ever thought of a shadow box behind the tank? I’d be curious to see how you’d use it visually.
What do you mean by shadow box?
Hey Mike awesome videos, I'm thinking about setting up a 60gallon breeder reef tank, love your tanks. What size filter would you recommend for a 60gal planned for fish and corals. Also about flow the canister style filters seem to have less flow than a traditional pump but being it's in the filter and not in a sump does it make up for it? I know most corals like alot of flow and obviously can add powerhead if needed but since my tank is smaller I was hoping I could possibly get away with using the innovative Marine rotating style nozzles on possibly two outflows one on either side of the tank with the intake possibly in the middle? I love the glass tubes you use it makes them almost invisible Thanks for your videos and suggestions.
Could you show us the inside of your cannister? A cannister tour if you'd like haha and how you should set up all the media you use ? Thanks so much , love the channel
I will do this! When I clean out my filter in a month :) You will be able to see some cryptic life inside it too.
@@Mikeymikemike awesome buddy , I'd love to see how you assemble it all together and I'm interested about the zeolites ,I've read mixed opinions on them but i know you've said to only use less than half the recommended, I'd love to see how the refugium is connected to the cannister too, im new to reefing and only have a cannister and never dealt with reactors or refugiums , love the channel , watched all your videos , thanks so much :)
Also who doesn't love a bit of cryptic life haha
Nice video, Mike. Do you have video showing how the plumbing works (Connecting the whole system)? is the canister filter able to pump water into the reactor then all the way back to your tank? Or the reactor has its own pump inside? Also, where to buy the soft tube you used on your inflow and outflow? I find the tubes coming with the canister filter are really hard to put on and remove from the glass inflow and outflow, which makes the cleaning really difficult. Again, thanks for sharing your setup, it is amazing.
The soft tubes can be purchased from Sicce, just find a distributor. You will need the grey type. Or you can use a connector and attach it to some soft silicone tubing. The pump of the filter runs the reactor too. So it’s a very energy efficient system.
@@Mikeymikemike I have not been successful finding the tubing you mentioned. I did not find it even with a search on the Sicce site. Also, what size is used on the canister filter?
@@Grady252 I use 16/22 tubing. If you cannot find it try silicone medical tubing from Ali hopefully that works for you
hehe just did my canister maintenance 2 days ago. this was the first time in 4 months since setup i didn't find that much sludge my freshwater hob has thick sludge every month but i have more fish in there and bigger fish.
i rinsed the sponges in tank water and bio media cleaned the propeller screw it all back up and setup again.
this was also the first "water change" for the setup but all went well.
i say "water change" because i had to throw all of my first 120g of saltwater so i ran out of salt and my tank had about 95g of water for a month before i added water to the top.
i didn't want to do this water change as I have my ATS so i wanted to compare the results arriving but i needed to replace carbon so figured why not while i'm at it.
you say you use tap water to clean your sponges.
you don't use rodi or tank water?
isn't running tap water on on the sponges going to kill the bb on it but most importantly introduce tds to the system like chlorine if water isn't from a well among a plethora of other solids?
It's not really a big deal to the beneficial bacteria as it all lives in the filter . Those sponges are frequently cleaned. You could use tank water but it isn't necessary. The tap water gets wrung out so not much of it goes back into the tank. I'd say 10ml is trapped after wringing it dry but thats it... No need to be overly careful since the sponge is not filled with in tap water when reintroduced to the tank. 10ml of tap water added to a 200L system will do nothing.
There is a shop in Germany who promotes the same. It is called Fish and More. They are doing only this kind of filtration with marine tanks. And it works easily. You can see their videos on youtube.
amazing setup..as now i am using canister too..can you share what kind of mechanical and bio filtration you put inside the canister..
Yes that is simple, I use Matrix, sera siporax and Aquaforest Zeolite (very little) and I top up about a handful every 6 weeks. No need for internal big sponges in the trays. If you don't have an OASE, you can easily buy a SERA/ista pre-filter that works very well and is cheap!
Hi great video were did you get the glass return and inlet with the skimmer as setting up a new reef tank with the same filter
would love to know the equipments you use:
1) 17mm lily pipes ?
2) 17mm flexible tubing (can't seem to find these anywhere) ?
3) what's that wavemaker/powerhead?
4) lights?
I've just got the same waterbox (but 3ft), and looking to set it up very similar to this. and obsessively want that minimal/clean look you have too :)
Hello Mike , great video again. Question : What mode do you use your wave pump ? I don't have the same one so instead of a short code , could you explain the type ? ( Sinus or classic wave or random or something totally different? I noticed in your earlier videos you were using it on classic wave mode but i think you switched.
Keep up the videos . Greetings from Turkey
I have it on wave mode as well but it cycles through all the modes every hour. Sometimes it’s a big wave, sometimes it’s a constant. In these videos I turn down the pump speed for less noise :)
I’m curious if you’ve ever grounded your tank to rid stray voltage. If so, where would you put the grounding probe to keep the simple look?
Where did you get your cabinet, looks very good and stylish. My wife hates aquarium cabinets, she wants a modern cabinet but nothing that looks just like kitchen cabinets. How often do you clean the rest of the canister or do you need to? Thanks and love your channel because your tank is just totally different from anyone I see out there beside the freshwater guys but I don't really see too many of their contents but their tanks set up looks similar to you.
I had it custom made with a local woodwork master :) if you see my videos I came from competitive freshwater aqua scapes
How do you input/output into tank from your Tunze reactor please? What else do you have in your Oase? Interesting video thanks! I have a AIO tank, sumps always come across to me as a bit messy. I like the idea of the extra water volume from the OASE/algae reactor combination. Finally does your OASE filter out all the micro fauna?
Hi, 1 I plumb it in line 2 I fill the sump with bio media. Any reputable bio media will do 3 micro fauna will be ok as they mainly live on the rocks and are not free swimming in the water all the time. Yes I sometimes find some but not enough to diminish the population. I find shrimp and fish are bigger predators to microfauna
Great job man , just one question : what is your light schedule and i saw them too high of the tank !!
Lights are now 94% for 6 hours peak AB+
I like the idea with the canister filter.
What still keeps me away now is the Auto Top Off Unit.
I've seen your video "The Best Aquarium Auto Top Off Unit" but I'm not sure if I can do it safely with a dosing pump.
My apartment is not air conditioned. The weather here changes often.
In other words, the water evaporates differently.
If I come home from work every day, that's probably safe, but what if I'm on vacation? How do you do that?
Or what else could I install for a protection against water overflow?
If you look at parkers reefs latest video, he set up an ATO with a peristaltic pump. It’s a genius idea. You can easily use a ripple ato which is small with such a setup for around $120
@@Mikeymikemike thanks. i am not sure if the Reefil ATO from Giant Pacific works when the sensor is installed in in the display tank in combination with a canister filter and the movement of water with the pump. I couldn't see that in the video. has anyone ever tried this?
Very inspiring! Love your minimalist approach, usually reef/saltwater tank system could get bulky and overwhelming but you keep everything so sleek and neat like ADA freshwater nature aquariums :) Thanks much for sharing all that valuable info with us subscribers. I also run my reef tank (60 x 30 x 36cm nano) with Eheim 2217 canister, using a small hang-on skimmer (QQ1) as well though since I dose NoPox to reduce nitrate and phosphate (eventually would love to switch to the algae reactor like yours to solve the issue). I also use the skimmer as oxygen supplier too. How would you provide enough oxygen in your tank? Since canister filters are completely closed system with no exposure to the air, heard that oxygen supply could be a critical issue...is your powerhead/wavemaker does that job, or would you do anything else other than that?
the wavemaker enables gas exchange at the surface. You will also get oxygen produced by corals and macro algae reactor. That is sufficient :)
@@Mikeymikemike Thanks for the answer...that's great to know! I will definitely upgrade to the algae reactor so I can get rid of skimmer in near future...there seems so many benefits :)
depending on how you setup your tank you could run a small bubbler into it. My dream aquarium is a large moray tank with a custom background and pipework for the eel made too look like old rusty pipes with bubbles coming out of it with the corals and rocks taking it over.
The whole nature taking back man made structures, but an underwater version.
I'm sold on the Oase - Going to be transferring my tank to a 75 gallon soon. What size is your tank? Would the 600 filter be overkill on a 75? Also, loving the glass intakes! Where did you buy them? And do they fit in the tubing that comes with the Oase filter?
Very good video and beautiful tank!!
How do you put in the tank Ca-Mg-kh??
Thank you, check out my previous video and you will see. Please sub for more :)
do u have tap connector on both or just on the skimmer side? Does it matter how high or low on the hose the taps are? And what is the brand of the tap connectors? Thanks a lot, love your videos!!!
I have a connector on both sides the return connector is attached to the outlet of my macro algae reactor. You can see it in the video :)
Great video, but Can you show us exactly how you set up the tunze macro algae with your canister filter?
I want to see how this is done as well. I am assuming it is plumbed in-line after the canister filter?
@@airrund08 I think so as well, but I'm just also curious if that then in turn affects the flow rate, I have a fluval 406 canister
@@tristanwilhelm9600 Exactly. I’m wondering if he figured the canister filter size/flow rate into the equation knowing he would be running that reactor.
Could u show us how you hooked up your algea reactor to a cannister and what was the name of the tubing?
I have this same exact filter for a mixed reef tank, just the larger 850 with Lily Pipes. I have constant micro bubbles going in. Have you seen this on your setup? I’ve reseated things, checked and lubricated o rings, etc. Thx!
What hoses and valves did you use to have the mar work with the oase? I went with your same setup in filtration and noticed the hoses are hugely different. Also interested in the valves you used. I know this video is from a long time ago so hopefully you’re active. Thanks in advance!
Hi Mike Mike! I really enjoyed your video, & I really like your filtration methods!can u tell me please, with running your cannister filter & chaeto reacter & also your tank, does it use a lot of electricity please?? 😀👍
It all runs on the same pump so not much at all, the lights however are big users of power.
@@Mikeymikemike Thanks Mike! 😀👍
Just came hear to say its good to see you applying the minimalism perfected by Amano in nature aquariums to reef tanks. Im glad some people get it! Your tank looks amazing. So many reef tanks look like crap. Filled with hardwear, no form or flow in their aquascape. Probably why I’ve never really been interested in reef tanks. But I’ve seen a couple lately, like yours. With nothing but a set of glass lilly pipes and its made me want to start a reef tank!
I run a 150 mixed LPS, SPS ans softies on 3 canisters no skimmer
I notice the floating skimming portion of your inlet pipe seems fixed in place? I'm curious how you achieve good surface skimming with all the surface movement of a reef tank
It is fixed as it presses up against the glass. It still sufficiently skims the surface all the time. The water level stays pretty constant. I can always manually adjust it if something is off.
Great video again Mike! Is it possible somehow to add a skimmer to this system, which is also hidden somewhere and not the hang-on type :D Is that Macro Algae Reactor like your "refugium"?
Great simple design.. i would add an auto water change down in the cab :P
It will be great if you start a guide series! From scratch.. scaping, all of the equipment and it's installation and populating the tank step by step :)
That sounds like a plan! I will do this and make it simple for viewers. As for a skimmer, is it needed? So far my tank has been successful without a skimmer. I actually have a Japanese glass skimmer made by name, very good but even skimmers don't seem to pull out as much as the prefilter can.
@@Mikeymikemike I'm just gathering information and still learning before jumping into the hobby. Reefers in my country are warning me that canisters have been tested through the early years of the hobby and they are not good enough and even dangerous for the tank in their words. And then I've found your channel and the masterpiece you have there! As a newbie I'm getting more and more confused, I guess you understand me 😁 I still have no experience at all and the opinions I find are extremely opposite 🤔
About the skimmers.. reefers here tells me that they are a must. Since they supply oxygen to the water and not just filtering it. My question is.. in your opinion is it safe for a beginner to try your setup, and go even without a skimmer, since it seems way less effort maintaining it 🙃 Other than cleaning frequently the canister and reactor how often and what percentage you do your water changes?
@@yanchevstanislav look at their aquarium and mine and decide for yourself :) There is a limit using canister filter. it only turns over 1500L per hour. So 2x or 3x system turnover is required. Maximum 400L aquarium is ok for a canister. You need to be on top of cleaning frequently (at least once a week) You would also need less fish load. Big fish produce large amounts of waste. But I would not put big fish into a medium/small aquarium. You don't have to search far to find successful aquariums without a skimmer. You can also find very good reefs using a skimmer. As for oxygen, a skimmer helps a lot but so does surface movement, chaeto, and corals. It is up to you. You decide. I mention in my video there are people who say "things will fail if you don't buy this or that..." That is the dogmatic attitude I mention. Proof is here.
@@Mikeymikemike you should make a video about the limits.
How loud is that filter compared to others?? *Beautiful* tank!
Liked and subbed.
Complete product list pump reactor pipes tank etc, I would be very appreciative thanks
Did you put the outflow through the reactor then the reactor outflow to the aquarium? And is that lily glass? Looking to do the same thing!
So if i have some red and green macroalgaes at the back of the display tank will your lights grow the macroalgae? The intend is to follow your system but with the algae in display reducing the need for the reactor.
Excelent explanation on your reasons. However I guess there are other biological filters inside your cannister which you do not show, or is it just for mechanical filtration?Do you have only algae as bio filter?
Ahh yes I have about 2 gallons of bio filtration inside the filter. Of course the sand, rocks, and corals perform biological filtration as well.
Where did you find the glass pipes for your filter, I’d love to replace mine as your glass ones look so much nicer than the basic black that come with most canister filters.
You can find these filters on most major shopping sites :) Just look up glass lily pipes, it helps to buy multiple so you can swap them and wash them when you feel like it.
Hello sir. I have an Oase 600 as well. Can you make a video showing how you attached the tunze 3181 to the Oase 600?
Hi Mike I see you have the tunze cheto in line with your return outlet ,do you have a valve on it to turn the flow rate down 🏴.👍😄
I just plumb it to the outlet of my canister and then back into the tank. There is a tap on it but I find running it maximum is ok :)
I did this 15 years ago, but we didn't have chaeto reactors back then, just had to rely on GFO in the cannister. What's in your cannister by the way? I don't think chaeto really removes nitrate, far more likely your rock is doing that, but great for silicate and phosphate removal.
How is the setup from the algea reactor.Do you use the pump that comes with the reactor.Because when you buy the tunze reactor there is a pump with controler inside
Can you make a video of replacing the media in each of the baskets?
Tanks looks good. How long has it been up with the canister filter?
This one for 7 months now. My previous one went for 2 years before switching to sump to give it a try.
Hi ! Would you let me know what you put in your canister filter ? Any other things then only filter sponge’s?
do you connect the outflow to the tunze algae reactor and the outflow of the reactor back to the tank?
Another awesome video!! Well done Mikey!! You’re killin it! 👏👏🙌🙌🙌
Thank you Lauren!
Hi I’m setting up my aquarium as we speak. I just have a couple of questions. I have a tank exactly the same size as yours but have 2 fluvsl 307’s. I was wandering where you suggest I place the intake and out pipes if I have 2 filters.
Hi Mike, how you start or switch tunze if you run it on an opposite light cycle?
What is that quick release valve you are using for the lily skimmer?
Where do you have the quick release tabs for your hoses made?
Who knew? thanks for the info. Are those Radions?
Yes they are radion g5 blue
Genius
What overflow do you use to reach the filters?
how do u maintain consistent water level? Is there an ato that fills the evaporation directly into the main tank?
Check my previous video on my ATO :)
Where did you get the inlet and outlet glass pipes?
impressive results with that setup, but why don't you just dose carbon to remove no3 and po4?
I do dose carbon but not for that purpose, I dose carbon to keep bacteria populations healthy. Each part of the filtration has a second purpose. The chaeto for ph, the gfo for silicates. If I could remove one thing it would be the chaeto reactor.
Where did you get the glass inlet and outlet for inside the tank?
