Unwritten rule number 9: if all your teamates pick cores, write gg and pick lc jungler, buy midas if possible, if lc is already picked, then pick techies, tiny is not a bad option either, since u can toss ur teamates to death.

Great video. I tried starting this discussion on a forum once with disastrous results. People think 'anything goes' and 'there are no rules', often the type of players who feed when they don't get their role or/and are a terribly low rank due to their nature.
One rule I'd add to the list: Pause when a player DCs, regardless of which team they're on.
mid > carry > offlane carry > jungle carry > support carry
Sure this all sounds fine in paper but you underestimate the players in SEA server. You see lower MMR players first pick carry and get countered then flame their supports because they suck at last hitting.
pff... guess you dont have the ping to play there. these kids all have 400 APM it's a level above anything the West has to offer.
Russia is actually far better than SEA at some points. I used to play in SEA, and my medal never got higher than Guardian 5. I played as a support, been in North Academy, and my classmates were amused by me. But Guardian 5 though. SEA players always underestimate their teammates and opponents. But in the Russian region, things are different. Well, there are some toxic 9 year olds there, and they often blame the support, and then throw the game in tears. But playing with Russian adults is a real paradise. They understand their incompetence in their lane if they lost 2 kills in their lane. The midlaner rarely asks for help, always asks the team before joining in small fights etc. But I will never get the beautiful feeling of playing in EU East. That region is fantastic.
@@lunamoonfang2 I change servers form EU west to Russia and reason was simple. On EU west and east are just That kids from Russia that are trolling, throw and feed. On Russ servers are Russians also but they are not so retarded like that kids on EU servers

Hey guys, I've been watching a while now and I gotta say I'm disappointed with your viewership. I want to say, really just keep at it- you guys are doing such a fantastic job. I've been playing Dota for over 13 years (first game in 2005)- I remember the releases of heroes like Huskar, Invo, Clockwerk, Templar for the first time- and I really find value in your content. Hopefully you can get recognised by the official panels etc and get picked up because you have brilliant input and you are fantastic sports commentators. Keep up the esports name, proud of ya.

@@Alpenmagier I have to be entirely honest, most (not all) of what they say are things I already know- but it doesn't matter because DotA is so incredibly complex, it's nice to get reminded of things every now and then. Sometimes, things that are obvious like "Tiny is a good hero all around right now." are just good to hear because it's something I wouldn't have thought of as a mid player, and it reminds me to not underestimate him if I see him. Even if he isn't the flavour of the month anymore.
@@CobusGreyling i pick tiny after i got stomped by an enemy tiny, it didnt turn out well to me.. i sucks.. but i beat Ancients and Divine with Shaker, and Abbadon, but my team always lack support, especially after 7.20 supports like ogre,lion,SS, and CM always want to be carry, so i have to say good bye to my offlane role to fill in the solo support role, even if my team have ogre and lion together.

That's why i'm a Visage main, you are REALLY versatile and you can go all roles too, carry mid just rush core items, off just get utillity items like rod force staff and medal, support just get aura items, glimmer cape and do some wards. Same thing if you main kunkka, silencer or vengeful spirit too. Oh, and look out for counter picks too (medusa, gyro, bristle and illusion heroes if you're picking visage)

What if the highest on your team is someone who dropped from divine 1 to ancient 1 but you or some else has gone from any significantly lower rank to ancient 1, who get priority of picks

I actually agree with all of these, wish more people (in my team) did so too.
The problem is, from what i learned during my very short time in ranked, that maybe 10% of people try to learn such things via tutorials or videos like this. It's realy depressing if you just want to play some games with people, but all they do is pick (semi-)carries and play worse than medium bots but shittalk all the time

Making it clear if you intend to play an unorthodox strategy (I used to do pretty well with a lich mid while sacrifice was a thing, but had to always tell my team that I was serious about going mid every time I played it or they'd assume I misclicked and meant to play support).
There are a LOT of unwritten rules in this game.
But sometimes even in sea there is that rare occasion like 1 out of 3o games that first 4 or 3 picks are all support and then you will have a hard game becoz youll choose if you pick mid or hardcarry.

So I'm a 6k player, but I was once 1.4k and I was still 3k around a year ago, so I know a thing or two about winning low mmr games, and the most important rule of all, which Jenkins has actually mentioned in another video is; Never Give Up. Doesn't matter if someone on your team is feeding, or they are all raging at you and not listening, or you are the last alive and they are deathballing mid. You defend the ancient right until the last second, because 9/10 you will lose, but the 1/10 you win, thats what separates the men from the boys.

its been a year since i play dota, i start with 1.6k end up with 3.1k mmr in 1 year. Its really hard to gain mmr above 3k since i dont know what shoulf i improve from my gameplay

in sea server the rule is simple, click which lane you're at que your hero then flame each other then end up everyone picking carry and 2 mid heroes laning one in jungle and the safelane is feeding, if youre lucky you will win if the enemy team is confused on wtf is going on with your team, where you fight not with 1 team but also your teammate

Support-support-offlane-mid-carry.. so i picked jugg and go safelane then, my two supports go to the offlane,making Bristleback to go to my lane and boy BB was mad when i take last hits, so i end up going jungle.. luckily our mid was great.. BB died 7 times in 6minutes. We won after 47minutes but it was really hard for me as BH always steal my gold. But i got highest farm as a typical carry
Basically I keep one ward mid and one ward bot for the runes cause one time with Gank changes a lot

1. No goodbye PepeHands?
2. Who should kill the Observer ward, when you find it by someone placing a sentry? Is there a rule for that. Because people get mad both ways, if a carry is close and take it, sometimes the support get mad, and also the other way around.
3. Any rule for jungle? Because people seem to get very frustrated if someone picks a jungle hero.
Wards get destroyed by supports every time(in my experience). In 99% of the cases people are fine with it, which makes sense because the support payed 100 gold for the sentry so let him get some gold back(and XP). He's the one looking to deward anyway. The only case is if the ward being dewarded is mid and early, if I buy a sentry as a mid player I will kill it because I'm alone there.
I haven't seen any jungler since I retarded playing dota(3 months ago). The reason they are not played(or bad if picked) is because it's usually a carry hero, and essentially you are playing 4v5 for 10 minutes plus you only have 1 support (and probably more than 2 carries). Hope this helps

I dont mind playing support, and I don't mind picking first. What I Do mind is having to pick a support completely blind not only to enemy picks but my own team mates. You should at least show what core you're thinking. Some support/carry lane combos are better than others, and some flat out don't work like io/alch. Also another rule is you shouldn't even be picking high maintenance carries like alch or am if your team isn't on board. If nobody is communicating you should pick carries that can survive the laning phase like wk/ck/void. Another thing is, if you are an archon player or below, you can't play supports as mids like you see Draskyl or Wagamama doing. High level players can leverage their superior mechanics on heroes like Dazzle or Rubick to get an early lead and win super fast. Most low level pub games are likely going to go 40+ minutes, and if you are playing skywrath mid and you get zoned, the team just has a useless support instead of a position 2.
I agree with all of that. If my team's not indicating what they're picking and I'm first picking a support it's generally a good idea to pick a more versatile support, like Shadow Sharman that works with pretty much any carry your team could pick.
Also mid Skywrath in low MMR games is great! The opposition very rarely knows how to counter the constant harass from his first ability. I'm a low MMR player and dominate my mid Skywrath games unless the opposite mid player just happens to pick someone that can get great HP regen in the lane, like Invoker.
I think that mid support heroes work great for ensuring that the opposite mid gets harassed out of lane and can't farm, with then snowballing with levelled OP skills that you wouldn't have had otherwise.

it's actually good to random Rubick for last pick/carry role since Rubick now is a very strong laner and viable as mid. I mean it's my opinion but I think Arcane Supremacy changed everything about Rubick. Don't you guys agree?

Well I would add to the first rule:
If enemy picks early mid/carry/hero easily countered, the lane which is meeting them should move forward with their pick.
If I see enemy picks tinker/Invoker/storm I pick as well sooner (maybe 3rd pick to be sure not being counterpicked by supports) ifI am mid to make sure other lanes wins as well - having 2 lanes with soft/hard counters is better than having 1 heavy counter. If enemy picks bloodseeker, I pick MK and if he doesnt go mid, I move to his lane and let mid to somebody else.
As well dont understand why people are going crazy when I pick support when I am playing with lower level friend (7 ranks/stars? below). I am on my level by playing mid/support. My winrate as carry is 16% (in 16 games) - dont ask people who dont carry to go carry. Wtf.
You know you can pick up the rune even if your bottle is on backpack cooldown. It'll still get bottled.
The thing I hate is when a teammate is going to get bounty and I ping my empty bottle and ask in voice chat to let me have and they they go grab it. They give the whole team gold too, not just the person who grabbed it.

Yea I'm not gonna roll when two people pick for the same lane/role and my icon is in front, and I'm not going to take anyone else's lane either when their icon is in front.

rule 1 support offlane - support- carry - mid there is no reason why not to pick 2nd support before the 2nd round of picks when you have no information's about enemy position 1,2 or 3. as well as you want to save one support to be realy good to counter one core for example you want to pick AA vs alchemist or slark.
rule 6 in ideal scenario offlane and mid have wards not jut one of them
Rip rule 4 being used in (not an exaggeration) less than 10% of my games. It is so rare for me to see in the lower levels, that I have started thanking people when they do mark where they want
I have to disagree with #6, more importantly you have to have enough regen to sustain your mid laning phase. 90 gold isn't big to completely rely on shared tango.

The worst thing about rule 4 is when you clearly show your pick/lane and someone else in your team locks in your pick without saying anything.
Regarding rule no 3, if you and your lane buddy go to an argument over whos carrying, and he first picks, you pick a carry too. The reason behind it is, and ive seen it for myself, matchmaking pairs you with people with different preferences, so you dont argue at all. And it works on a base od 20 games, your last 20 games are your array of roles selected, if you played as a carry for 12 games, you are going to have a bigger chance of having a lane support, so as a long term solution, i suggest you force your role if you dont want the same argument over and over. There is no proof of this, just my personal expirience, and an advice i got from a top 4k player

Technicly the video is grat but like 5 rules go down to "communicate with your team" one is "higher rank = better player so listen tho him" and the last two are like "learn and use mechanicks" and this goes to "get good". Realy for people who play ranked games above 1k these are basics and people under 1k are trolls or have no idea what to do and they for sure dont wast their time watching videos on how to get better cuz they "play for fun not rank". But still technicly video is good :)
