    I wanted to share this with everyone. I manage a service center and had the same problems with these engines overheating after doing coolant work. I found this persons comment under another video and it indeed fixed the issues. I take no credit.

    3 years ago
    THE CRUZE ENGINE RUNS AT 227 DEGREES. DEXCOOL 50/50 MIX BOILS AT 240 DEGREES. This is not enough margin to prevent boiling as the coolant heat soaks after shut down. I fixed my boiling problem by simply draining coolant and going with straight undiluted dexcool. Now I have boiling protection up to 28 Degrees. no more boiling at all. These cruze engines run much hotter than we are all used to, and thus require undiluted dexcool, not a 50 50 mix.

      Also, how would you know if you've blown a head gasket? My reservoir, after 15 mins of idling, starts to bubble and seem like it's boiling. Thanks!

      Thank you. I will have to try that. My daughters car has had problems since we got it used. I had to replace the return heater hose as the plastic tee melted and burst. Replaced with a Dorman that has a metal tee. But put 5050 in

    • @Alejandra-cv7rj
      @Alejandra-cv7rj Před rokem +3

      My advice replace the stock radiator as well and get one that's bigger and thicker and replace the hoses with silicone ones expensive yes but in the long run you don't have to replace them again. This will also help prevent over heating and less likely your hoses will tear as well. My car has a overheating problem but I think it's internal at this point probably needs a head gasket at 241, 000 miles.

    • @yinkamartins
      @yinkamartins Před rokem

      @@Alejandra-cv7rj Same. mine is at 244k and fixed most of my heating issues. The pressure really is high, fixing one issue only results to another issue as the pressure tries to burst out elsewhere. my car has served big time. Time for a change

  • @ishzero1258
    @ishzero1258 Před 2 lety

    So it just overheats due to that pressure and you just have to open that container in the right?

  • @brandonscherffius
    @brandonscherffius Před 4 lety +39

    I’ve changed just about every hose, water pump, thermostat, water outlet valve. It seems like there is a lot of pressure in the system. Reservoir keeps bubbling and pushing coolant out. Heat works fine. I’m almost to the point of believing it’s a bad head gasket. I’ve never had so many issues with determining that. No oil in coolant. No smoke at tail pipe

      @JaboTheMechanic  Před 4 lety

      Can you smell gas in the coolant

    • @brandonscherffius
      @brandonscherffius Před 4 lety +5

      Jabo The Mechanic i do not. It’s not overheating now that I changed water pump and thermostat, but the reservoir is still bubbling and blowing out steam.

    • @brandonscherffius
      @brandonscherffius Před 4 lety +3

      Bled air out at the radiator. It will bubble for a while then stop. After a few minutes will start again. But not showing over heating. I really don’t trust the heat gauge though

    • @JaboTheMechanic
      @JaboTheMechanic  Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah i would not trust the gauge. Hook up a scanner to it. Try replacing the rad cap. Could you send me a video of whats it doing

    • @brandonscherffius
      @brandonscherffius Před 4 lety +3

      Jabo The Mechanic the bubbling could be exhaust gases I assume. It doesn’t do it constantly so I’m thinking it might not be real bad yet. So I’m thinking I’m gonna let it cool down, add some bars head gasket sealer and see what happens. Don’t really have nothing to lose at this point. Let you know the outcome. I’ll try to get some video before and after

I presume from driving over rocks because a drive path by my job was getting maintenance so everyone was driving over rocks for 10 days. A rock hit my core heater underneath creating a hole.... causing an antifreeze leak. Cost me $600 and 2 visits replace it. They couldn't find the leak so I had to spot it myself by taking pics under my car where it was leaking out.

    My daughters chevy cruze has begun over heating AGAIN. Last time the outlet valve and reservoir tank were cracked so i replaced both of those. A couple months ago. Ran fine, until recently.
    Started overheating, added coolant and burped system. While it is idling/burping the heat blows really strong, but it seems like the bubbling never really stops. Lessens after awhile but seems to remain. Seems to get up to temp and stay there, until i drive it around for about 15/20 minutes then it starts overheating and it seems the air from the vents goes ambient as well . Only coolant leak i see is some being blown off from the dorman reservoir cap. I have now replaced the thermostat and tstat housing, still the issue has not changed. I am wondering if i should replace the waterpump at this point but i dont want to keep throwing good parts away. Any help would be appreciated.

    Have code like P0236 for the turbo supercharger! Did not take it in consideration, another 2 codes one is ECT and the other is the radiator temp sensor, i changed the last 2 sensor, repoaced the thermostat, i have a circulation, but the engine is overheating, the fan does not kick on on time.
    I replaced also the Fan and fuse boxes.
    When using the OBD 2 i can see the real engine temp it starts overheating around 102 degree celsus but the gauge inside the car it does not show it it is at its standards place looking like normal temp, desoite changing the sensors.
    So i do unplug the ECT sensor on a daily basis to make the fan run.
    My question is: does the turbo supercharge boost sensor uave somthing to do with the engine temp?
    Once i reset the check the ECU starts giving outputs to the fan relays and the fan kicks on and once turning the car off with check engine coming back again the does not kick on.
    The check engine is caused by the suoerchager sensor obviously.

    I have a 2013 Cruze LT RS and I had the "ac is off due to high engine temp" message come up yesterday and the radiator fan started running at full blast but my temp gauge stayed on cold. I had only driven the car a few minutes. I had to drive the car for a moderately long stretch because I had to find a safe place to pull over. The engine didn't seem like it was being affected as there was no loss in power and the engine light never came on. When I finally got parked, I shut the car off and then crunk it up and it ran normal. The message never returned and the fan didn't come back on. Just to check, I ran a few errands and every time I crunk the car when I got back in it, everything ran as it normally did. When I got home I checked the coolant and it was low. I looked for leaks several times when I was out in the car and didn't find any. I did hear some gurgling when I got the car home and turned it off in the garage. It was really hot yesterday, but I drove the car for a long time without it happening again after I turned it off and restarted it. Do you think the low coolant is the problem?

The actual engine wasn't overheating. @freetoride003 Před 2 lety +1

      Leave the cap off the over flow tank with heat on full blast run the car to operating temperature. Make sure you fill the reservoir first. As the engine gets to temp it will cycle coolant and pull from the reservoir. Keep filling until it stays just below the fill line and you stop seeing the air bubbles coming from the tube into the reservoir. This guy is dumb. There’s no back pressure the system has to hold steady pressure to keep the engine from lowering the boiling point. Otherwise no pressure will let the coolant boil at regular boiling temp start to steam. Then your screwed until it completely cools down a minimum of 4-6 hrs later. The thermostat housing is plastic and cracks commonly so don’t over tighten it when installing another one. Best bet these cars are junk and have major problems keeping coolant without finding leaks all over the system.

      One other thing one the passenger side of the radiator there is a plastic plug at the top. Kind of hard to see because there is an ac line right in front of it but pull that out and be careful not to drop it. Can be hard to find without a magnet. When you fill the tank keep filling wit that plug out until you see a steady steam coming out and put the plug back in. That will burn the radiator and the other part is burping through the overflow when it cycles

      @@JaboTheMechanic Right, but one thing that also happens, the radiator fan will turn on really loud and strong for like 5 seconds then shuts off, and it does this like every 35 to 40 seconds. When I pop the hood the engine is super hot as it emits that unmistakable smell of a hot engine, yet the temp gauge is a notch or 2 below normal. Thoughts???

    Have 2015, 1.4L. Had the same problem thermostat was jammed. Replaced. Also replaced thermostat housing that had a leak a small leak causing air bubbles. Problem fixed!!!
    Note: make sure you bleed the system properly /burp any air pockets will still cause overheating.

    The main failure is the water outlet valve, always fails
