- System Integrity Permissions
Applicable to Apple Computers Only
This video addresses how to bypass "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission." message. It applies to all files, folders that you wish to modify, change, delete etc.
The main important steps are to disable the system integrity permissions in order to achieve the process and REENABLE IT at the end.
DISCLAIMER: This is for educational purposes only
IMPORTANT: The Test was made using an Intel Chip MacBook Pro.
Let us know in the comments if you have a different Chip and which steps you've used to apply this process.
It doesn't work on M1 / Monterey. The message "the action could not be completed because you do not have the required access rights" still pops up and permissions can't be changed for certain (possibly system-owned-) files.
I follow your instruct but it's not successful. I am using Macbook Air. Please tell me how to fix this issue. Thanks a lot
Thank you! Finally a solution. Easy to follow directions.
Thank you for your feedback. And glad it worked for you.
Finally my problem is solved, thanks man.
For M1 and M2, hold the POWER button during startup
Thank you. Did it work for you? Which steps have you taken?
It doesn't work as it goes to shut mode when I hold the power button during startup and CMD R is also not working
@@nikitarabadiya0 if you're using M1 or M2 chip you may not be able to achieve it this way. Looking up on Google how to get it done through terminal
@@joseph-israel Security integrity is being off by the command but still I am not able to change the permission on folder and it displays the same message
@@nikitarabadiya0 You M1 has to be completely off, so don't restart - instead shut down. One it's completely off, hold the power button - don't release it and you'll see text underneath the apple icon as it switches on
Really big help man, I was stressing out trying to delete a file that won’t go away and this video had the only solution that worked for me
Thank you for your feedback. I'm 😊 glad it helped you sort out your issue.
Thumbs up and subscribe!
when I'm in recovery utilities doesn't show up. Any fixes?
It worked!!! I’ve struggled with this one. Thank you so much! 👌🏼🤝🏻
I'm glad to hear it helped you out.

Thank you so much, u inspire me to study CS
Works like a charm😊
like bro iv'e had this error update on my mac for months taking up soo much space when i tried your method and it finally deleted i was so elated thanks bro u saved my mac 🔥🔥🙃
It works, thanks dude 🎉
As comments below - I am doing everything accordingly, but with no luck.
Maybe it's because my problem is the external drive I use?
My csrutil status is disabled, but still cannot add anyone (greyed out) or change anything
Which Mac model do you have?
@@joseph-israel I solved it another way. I erased my drive and reformatted it into ExFAT - iwas using this drive on windows previously, so maybe that's why It didn't want to allow to write things on my MacBook.
It solved the problem completely for me. There was no need to do any privacy setting changes afterwards.
@@pikolowet glad to hear it. thanks for thanking time to share your experience.
@pikolowet please can you make a video showing how you resolved it . I am still struggling with it. Thank you
A simple way to it
(commad I )
Go in general
There is a option is locked 🔒
Turn it off
Not work for me in Ventura Hackintosh i3 13th
This method didn't work for me on my Mac studio. Still says I don't have necessary permissions. Any other way to fix this?
I also want to fix this. its not cool.
It doesn't work. I'm still unable to change the Privilege rules after disabling the csrutil. I can't change anything, nore add or remove accounts.
It's strange because even before this I have my user with both Read& Write privilege, but it sais "You can only read".
I'm curious 🤔 whether you've missed something. Re Enter recovery mode and tell me what you see with this command : "csrutil status"
Now you also want to right click on the file/folder and click get info. Afterwards click to unlock the lock icon in the bottom right of the "get info windows". Select the user and assign the permission and try again.
You want to reach out to Apple support see they can help you further if you got an M1 or M2 chip.
I have multiple 8 and 12 TB HDD's for our youtube channel, unfortunately, I just ran into the same problem. I then realized that on the latest two drives that I purchased, I forgot to format them with OS extended from the windows NTFS. I couldn't open my libraries after running Clean My Mac (that I just installed). The only thing I found as a fix was to get another drive and format it with OS Extended. This now allowed me to move my videos from the NTFS to the OS Extended and Now I can use FCPX again. This is expensive yes, but I didn't lose my files. Note: I also have RW permissions again on the new drive.
Thank you bro
You the best
Not working non Mac mini M1 in MacOs Sonoma. But thanks anyway.
it doesn't work for me, it says that I don't have permission to change. What else can I do?
What type of computer you're using? Please share the specs.
It workss thanks 😊
not working for m3 chip
If u do this on a m2 pc ur not able to run iOS apps on ur pc
It does not work. I have Mac v11.7.
I'm curious to know what are you doing different! Because this is a pretty much straightforward process. Reach me by email I will look into it see what you're might be doing different.
I have tried the steps correctly, and the first time after doing the crustil thing, I still canr modify my info.plist file, becausei cannot unlock the file please help me
What's your current system information and configuration?
@@joseph-israel I'm using MacOS Sierra on a 2011 AC, but don't worry I just changed the .app to .zip in terminal so I could edit
@@siridiot7316 great you've sorted it out.
Here I an article on the subject for future reference

not working even after csrutil disable being used
where is system extensions
Didn’t work for external hdd
Didn’t work for me either I’ve done this 3-4 times
To anyone who might be panicking because csrutil will not enable again, just restart the computer. Mine came up with an error saying it wouldn't re enable but I restarted and did the csrutil enable command again and it was fine
Thank you for the tip
m1 doesn't work
Which part did not work?
@@joseph-israel it didn't work until I made new admin user and changed permissions under it. Before that i could not change
@@alexeym.1159 ok. Thanks for the feedback
why is this not working for me man
Sorry my friend. You're certainly have a much different configuration. Do you happen to have a M1 or M2 chip?
This does not work
Sorry. It was tested on Intel chips.
I did this EXACTLY on an i3 Intel MacBook Air and this did not work.
sorry it did no work for you. it worked for me, it worked for some. So not sure what else is missing except some changes in OS from apple.
Not working.
Sorry. It's for Intel. But M chips appear no longer related.
Followed the step by step guide, still not working
Which OS version are you running ?
@@joseph-israel me too, im running sonoma
Does not work…. Lost a lot of time-
😮
This is pissing me off big time
Why should I do all these process while I can do it in a click in windows. Apple should have a permission to sell their products from Microsoft actually. I think I'm gonna smash my laptop to a small pieces and it buy a windows laptop
Didn't work on m1
What did not work?
didnt work, i followed step by step even went back a second time to make sure I was doing it right and nothing...help please!
update: it worked I used "csrutil status" instead! thanks a mil!
Which MSc version do you have ? And which OS you're running ?
csrutil status, provides only the status where you are in at that moment. It doesn't enable/disable anything!
The command works just does not allow permission changes on my end. I check with the code above and seems your tutorial works but the command does not fully allow for changing of these permissions. Why idk and should not be this way. Should be simple to make changes on your own personal computer.
