The box artwork is the same as the original poster by Drew Struzan. Who also did the original star wars posters. He was the only one who was ever allowed to sign his movie posters and they were all hand drawn. My tutor from college actually worked with him in the past too.

@@godinacape Also Bob Peak, Bob Mcginnis AND Frank McCarthy, Justin observes that the Delorean Is missing the rear end of the car in the art, but it was an intentional artístic licence to not reveal all the details of the cat in the movie póster so the surprise of seeing a Delorean wasn't spoiler , according to the notes on the Drew Struzan book

This looks like a great figure, I missed out on getting the first one but I’m gonna pick up this one. Fun fact, I looked up the shoes he was wearing in the first film and they’re Nikes.

You're forgetting that it is technically accurate, Doc was wearing what he wore at the end of Back To The Future in part II.

6:56 "Tape Deck" I think that would be a bit bulky to carry around... 😉 This is a really weird release by Hot Toys, but it's good to have an improved version. Logically you would expect Einstein to come with Doc, but I guess they had to have an excuse to re-release Marty. Thanks for the review!

The side by side is nuts. I had the original but sold him a few years ago. I’m so glad I decided to pick up the new one. I was blown away.

Love the BttF figures. We now have one of the Doc and Marty for each part of the trilogy. It would be great to have other 1:6 like Biff, Griff, Clara etc. it’ll cost a fortune but would be worth it. Currently waiting for the release of the Part 3 figures and can’t wait! Doc looks bad ass with his sniper rifle.

Received mine today and have to admit that in hand this is a huge improvement on the original. Very happy with how this one has turned out and looking forward to adding the Part 3 figures when they’re released!

Just got mine and think it’s pretty great! One difference I noticed is the collar on the Jean jacket is longer and popped up rather than folded but I was able to futz the jacket to get the collar to sit a bit lower.

Update: I just bought this today and it should be here Thursday. If I'm ever in any doubt about a product I really want I just come here lol.. I finish watching these videos and I'm perfectly happy and confident with my new purchase. Thanks once again Justin!

Great review. I'm even more excited to get mine now! I'm not too disappointed about the sunglasses. While true that he has them on in the original Drew Struzan poster (that's on the box) he actually only wears them in one scene in the film: The giant guitar amplifier at Doc's lab. Those sunglasses have MAYBE 20 seconds of screen time, and only about 10 seconds where they are clearly visible.

I have the Marty from a few years back. The walkman cable is very fragile. It broke rather quickly. Hopefully they fixed it in this version.

when you see the figures side by side the differences are so noticeable, I have the first version too but I'm definitely considering this now too, although I'd keep the original and display him without the life preserver and have him In his guitar pose from the audition scene then have this new one in classic marty poses

the og marty was my first ever hot toy. im keeping the og one. i dont think the headsculpt is any better. the paint yes but not the shape of the new head

"OG Marty" looks like an older Spin City era Michael J Fox...looks way too old & the hairstyle is inaccurate lol

I was on the fence, but leaning towards getting it as I love the Back to the Future Trilogy, and I wanted the Einstein. I’m glad Marty was upgraded quite a bit too though.
I think I may end up still keeping my original figure for the sunglasses and exclusive guitar. I may end up displaying him as the Battle of the Bands look.

There’s absolutely no question about it that I will get this Marty since I have missed out on the first one. BTTF is my favourite movie of all time and having Marty and Doc in Hot Toys form is a dream a had for years. However, I do feel the Michael J Fox likeness is better on the 1.0 Marty. Yes, the head is to narrow, but his facial features are much closer to Fox’s. The new one seems a more generic, random guy. Also, seeing how little head movement Einstein gets despite of the added articulation really makes you wonder why they didn’t just make him a statue. The neck seam doesn’t bother me as much as it does some other people, but he would’ve looked 10 times better without it.

I still think the original has a closer likeness to MJF so keeping mine. I do like the skin tone and hair better on this one though.
The paint is definitely better on the new one but the hair makes the head too big in my opinion. Is way too puffy on the sides. I still prefer the 1st release.

I like the old one. It only works in the glasses/watch pose though. It makes sense that his head is a little too narrow to get that pose. I like the new one for the camcorder/mall scene. I wish this one came with more accessories because it’s more versatile. It should’ve at least came with a radiation suit but a 50’s outfit so you could have a part 1&2 skateboard scene would’ve been awesome. Even a prom outfit would’ve been cool.

Thank you for being so thorough!! I hadn't noticed the differences in the fabric but the original's clothing looks more like a doll. The new Marty is much improved.

I’m hoping that since the paint improvements are so much better than the old one that hot toys will go back and redo some older figures with new paint jobs. The Terminator line redone with today’s paint apps would be amazing!!

If you have the original exclusive I’d keep it and get both versions. That way you have the guitar and also Marty’s glasses. Easy way to justify having both versions imo.

@@JustinsCollection I am looking for a body to make a Peter Parker. It’s very hard to look for a body that matches the new HT skin color and has similar height to Peter. Most available in the market have a cappucino brown skin and around 30cm tall. Perhaps I can get a Marty body from a kitbasher seller one day

the poster in the original is him holding his glasses up. I think your box critiques are just it being accurate to the movie poster - tho I will agree that weird phasing delorean has always stood out
My critique was that this figure doesn’t come with the glasses to actually pull off that pose
I've stopped ordering went and bought a new camera gonna have to get Doc though I think, dam capping my collecting lasted 20 sec.

I have the original and was definitely wondering whether I should sell him since I pre-ordered the new one. I'm so glad to finally put this choice to rest. As much as I love the improvements in the new one, I've decided to actually keep the original one as well IF and only IF Hot Toys releases the DeLorean once again. I need him in that iconic pose holding his glasses and looking at his watch while having one foot in the car. I'll just pose up the new one with Doc once he arrives next year. I've pre-ordered the BTTF 3 figures and now have my fingers crossed that we will one day get a re-issue of the BTTF 2 figures to complete my collection. Unfortunately, I wasn't into collecting when they 1st originally came out. Come on Hot Toys.....you've got hundreds of new collectors since they 1st came out. Give us a chance to own these figures as well and avoid those ridiculous 2nd hand market prices

The part 2 Doc sort of can work for part 1 Marty. Doc shows up at the end of the movie wearing the future clothes.

I missed out on the first figure and have come close a few times to paying a small fortune for him aftermarket. Now I'm so glad that I didn't pull the trigger those times. I pre-ordered this one the minute it went live. Of the two head sculpts I definitely prefer this one strictly in terms of the face, but I kind of lean towards the first one in terms of the head shape, so give and take I guess. I wish they had an exclusive version with the guitar like the last time. For me personally, that would have been a cooler accessory than Einstein. But Einstein looks great, and as we know, Hot Toys can be hit-or-miss when it comes to animal figures. All in all an awesome figure.

New Marty (2.0) for the win, IMO. Especially agree with you regarding the head sculpts. Disappointed they went with the cheap-looking display base, though.

Wow! I'm very impressed with the new Marty McFly figure. I know others will disagree, but I think the head sculpt is far superior to the original. Getting Einstein is a real bonus and the seam around the neck isn't too distracting. Thanks for another awesome review!

Wow I was going to skip the new release as I have the 1.0 but seeing them compared to each other now the new one sculpt together makes the old one look bad to me. Guess I’m going to now pre order from sideshow. Sideshow is only a hour from me so that’s the only reason I order from them.

Face sculpt actually looks better there. Have the original and have this on order. Still a must buy. Favourite film and although the dog isn't great.... His still welcome and a must to have in the collection (for me). I am just greatful for this figure and the other BTTF announcements. Just hope.... For that's Delorean. Re release with parts accessories pack. Or sod it.... Release all three. Whatever is the way.
