Lyrics:
Brucie dreams life's a highway too many roads bypass my way
Or they never begin. Innocence coming to grief
At the hands of life - Stinkin' car thief, that's my concept of sin
Does heaven wait all heavenly over the next horizon?
But look at us now, quit driving, some things hurt more much more than cars and girls.
Just look at us now, start counting, what adds up the way it did when we were young ?
Just look at us now, quit driving, some things hurt much more than cars and girls.
#prefabsprout #CarsAndGirls #Vevo - Hudba
I was born at the beginning of 1966 so the 1980’s spanned the years I was 13 to 23, what a brilliant LUCKY time to have been young. It’s worth being older today to have lived through the sheer joy of being younger then.
I was born in 64 mate......similar vintage! What an era.......never to be repeated! It makes me misty eyed when I think about it......we were so bloody fortunate! You're right in what you say!! Hope you're well!
Sure nobody will read this as most comments are much older. The 80's were my decade. The music, the freedom the absolute joy. Even though I cannot walk anymore due to poor health I remember dancing at the disco to this song, unfettered & joyous. Those were the days and I lived them. Thankyou Prefab, your music made my life wonderful
some of us still reading the comments and I'm right there with you..the 80's were also my decade the best times of my life by far inspite of a less than ideal childhood. Looking back it's kinda bittersweet but I would still go back to it in a heartbeat.
I'm with you on that (from France). Same decade, same feelings... if I could go back there, I'd do it. But as Epicure/Lucrece say, you can't live in the past or the future, we live the instant. Spent part of the afternoon with Steve Mc Queen though, and I was back in time... cheers from Brittany coast !
I'm with you too. I'm now 62 and undoubtedly 1980-2000 were the fun times. The 80's made you feel invincible and that time would never end. But it does and it's nice to reminisce now and then.
Some of us read, but sometimes, CZcamss algorithms are not working :) This is a wonderful song, and Prefab Sprout has made quite a few classic songs, of which this is one of them. Next time, try "Who is still listening to this in 2023" 🤣🤣
Yo si te he leído. En su día, me compré este LP.
Just read an interview with Rod Stewart who stated that this is his favourite song. That just made my heart soar. Happy Valentine's Day to all the Prefab Sprout lovers of the world! 💘
Quit driving, Start counting...
Wow, that's a serious endorsement... ❤😊
Mine too... From Italy.
Love this song so much play it to my granddaughter she loves it ❤️💯

One of the classiest songs of the 80s. Pure silk.
Merci j t'aime déjà ❤
Perfect Explanation
After so many years, this song is still the best you can hear in 2023, wonderful.❤
By far better than the music of now
@@garethhelliwell9736 Yeah
How right you are
2024 still my favourite play list.
Merci bis ❤
Happy 65th Birthday Paddy! Never got the recognition he deserved outside the UK
This song makes me feel 9 years old in the back of my Dads Austin Ambassador, driving down English country roads with this blasting on the radio feeling like I would always be a kid! 42 year old Dad of two boys now. Living in Canada, life is insane and beautiful x
Lol my dad had a montego.
On our way to Silverstone for the F1.
Great memories.
Amazing! It was a much simpler time. I'm glad I grew up when I did that's for sure.
2024 and the 80's ❤ is still the best and will be forever ❤ A magic decade
Extremely underrated, the songwriting , melodies and execution are on another level . Their songs hold up well even after all these years .
Very true, Paddy's a genius, there was so much fantastic music in the 80s..🎶🎸🥁📻😊👀👏
So true
Born in '64, I was a youngster I n the 80s, marvelous youth, marvelous music: Prince, Style Council, you name it, the 80s were a special decade !
I'm from South America, and here music like Prefab Sprout never came or came a long time later. However, those of us who lived in the 80's, have in our souls a kind of detector of the spirit of this type of songs, which have something special that cannot be defined with words and although, like me, you listen to them decades later, your mind, when Instantly, he assimilates them, identifies them and miraculously they return you there, to the wonderful 80's, that time that will stay in our minds, until the last day we have to be here.
Beauty
80s music and the way it reaches into your soul. This is the first time I've heard this tune, and your words just brought me to tears.
Bravo Carlos, you just wrote a poetry! Where in South America?
Bravo pas de fro
Noires ça pouvoir musique t enbrasse ❤
Time flies but the talent remains…
Thank you Paddy for all your work.
57 years old and still listening to PreFab Sprout. I was hooked at Golden Calf.
I’m 70 and still listening.
19 years and just started listening x
We love.
Me too!! Golden Calf makes me fly..❤❤❤
This song makes me cry , of happiness and sadness at the same time . For a world that is gone , and for the memories that are slowly fading away . Slowly cancelling from my memory the young kid I was back then 😢😢 These songs give me the chance to grab him for a little more time .
Know the feeling buddy hang in there and enjoy the music lot of people I once listen to theses type of songs from that era gone now from one thing or another rip but still plenty of us AROUND dublin ireland 👍👍
One of the greatest songs i ever heard.
I AGREE WITH YOU. GREETINGS FROM SPAIN.
Very well said !!
Natsukashii... can feel sad sometimes, but music lovers will always love wonderful tunes like this :-)
Possibly one of the most underrated bands ever? Maybe, but certainly Paddy McAloon is a master lyricist with insightful commentary on childhood, growing old and reflection. Just brilliant!
Totally true, they're criminally underrated.
he is making reference to bruce springsteen songs.
@@RafaLaRocka Yeah... I think the irony is lost on many.
@@RafaLaRocka BTW... The Meatloaf album Bat Out Of Hell... produced by Todd Rundgren is also a parody of the clown Bruce Spring sting records.
Along with The Blue Nile.
One of the most underrated bands of the 80’s.
I'm from london they were never underrated
Where as Aztec camera well that's a different story.
Steve McQueen/Two Wheels Good had the most fantastic gem of all with "When Love Breaks Down". As to David Smith, yep, another underrated band in Aztec Cam.. "Birds" has always continued to impress me on Dreamland.
yeah the king of rock n roll
Definitely!
Why does someone ALWAYS write the same thing? Doesn't matter what band; they're always 'unederrated.'
Sigh...
Music from a better time in a better world.
Pensamos igual
👍🙋♀️
Ain't that the truth.
Cold war era, Thatcher, Chernobyl... And me singing »Hot dog, jumping frog, ..«. Better times? They are blurry...
Era un tiempo mejor sobre todo porque éramos más jóvenes 😸
One of my favorites songs
I played the video of this song to my 15 year old son who is as big on music as i am amd told him that this was a hit when i was 15. He listened intently then looked up the lyrics and said, This is a great song dad! When a songs meaning reaches across generations, then it is truly Timeless! Greetings from Durban, South Africa.
It has taken me DECADES to realise the brilliance of this songwriting.
Neil is such a funky, talented drummer
80s classic takes me back to the summer of 1988 while working my first job in a butchers shop in my local town in Scotland .
Paddy McAloon. Master songwriter
Underrated song writer
So underrated. He is an absolute genius songwriter.
💯
I'm 57 years old and I LOOOOVE this music ! In the 80's, I was 26 lets go !
Was 17 in ‘85. Amazing decade. Privileged to have lived through the ‘80’s in that time of life...freedom, clubbing with friends, grandparents, endless holidays. We need the ‘80’s back to detoxify us of this covid nonsense. Can someone invent a time machine... I want to go back to ‘85!
Nostalgia. ...magia.......😭
ME TOO MY FRIEND. GREETINGS FROM SPAIN.
@@miguelgaldonmoragues Hi... we had 2 super holiday’s in Calella de Palafrugel, Costa Brava in the 80’s. wonderful place. Love to go back soon. Lets go back to the 80’s!
WAY BETTER THAN ALL THE SHIT PLAYED NOWADAYS!!😌😌
Anch'io!!!
2020 and prefab is refreshingly and stubbornly relevant.
Thanks Netflix
@David Hargreaves I'm Not Ok With This, very good series on Netflix. King of Rock and Roll is used to great effect. The whole soundtrack to this programme is phenomenal. There's even a made-up band called Bloodwitch created for the programme by Graham Coxon of Blur and Tatyana Richaud. The Music is so good you don't ever want to skip the ever changing outros.
Quarantine Lockdown and some Prefab to get through the day
I haven't connected with a band this hard in a decade at least.
@David Hargreaves And "Wild Horses" is highly revered by the vaporwave crowd.
Real people, real writing, real musicianship.
1,000,000 times!!!
Where did it all go so wrong lol.
Real shit.
+ no autotune
Real singing! Real talent!
Listening in 2024 and beats every song in the top 40
Paddy and Prefab Sprout at their absolute best.
I was born in 1967 and I grew up with 70-80's music. This song automatically takes me back to those years. At the same time It is joyful but also a little nostalgic. I listen to it with happiness but with tears in my eyes. Thanks to Prefab Sprouts and Paddy McAloon.
Sono anch'io del 67 condivido il tuo pensiero quanta nostalgia una band di gran classe
❤❤❤
Love this song ❤❤❤❤❤🎉
I think this beautiful song captures the essence of the late 1980's: carefree but with a touch of sadness. Hard to pinpoint but definitely there.
Good point! It's like: lets be happy and carefree - because it wont last forever, sooner or later bad things will happen. Thats life, of course, after bad comes good, thats how it will always be💖
Prefab Sprout and Simple Minds are my favourites from the 80s.
Vero ❤️
I wish the 80's never ended!
Duran Duran? Spandau Ballet? No... PREFAB SPROUT!!! Yesss
This is definitely a fine candidate for the best song of all time. Personally it’s a top3 for me
Prefab sprout about as close to perfection as you can get.
How i wish we were still in the 1980s. Where all this started.
i am physically disabled by a car accident 18 years ago since then, music is my support, thanks:-))
I'm sorry to hear of your accident, and yes music does help, and this is such a great song. u take care.
@@brooksideradio thanks friend
I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. Life throws such tests at us. Music holds and lifts us throughout our lives. It's an incredible gift. I couldn't live without music. I send you my very best wishes and good luck for the future.
God bless you Miquel, sending you a hug from London.

I absolutely love Prefab Sprout and think Paddy McAloon is a writing genius. I've been having a Prefab renaissance for some months now. Can't stop listening to their many great songs. Someone tell Paddy how great he is and how much pleasure his songs bring us.
All right, I will. PADDY, YOU ARE THE GREATEST, AND YOUR SONGS BRING US GREAT AND ENDURING PLEASURE.
Super underrated rated band dont know how i discovered them but glad i did the 80’s were the time to live even though im a 2000’s baby wish i could’ve experienced it
I played this fantastic album every night that I worked at a bar in Melbourne thank you for all your wonderful amazing songs ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I had this on cassette and would “rewind” this song over and over! My girlfriend thought I was crazy. I didn’t care. This song is too good to listen to just once!
Blasting it on your Walkman I bet. 😂
And having to use a pen to reel in the the cassette 😂
@@tommybaker6287 I used to hate having to do that, battery power was crap back in the day lol.

A hot 🔥 80ts summer night listening to pre fab sprout o man o man they were great days miss you 80ts soooo much 💯💚🤍🧡
I found Prefab Sprout after watching the 'Whats in my bag' episode with Walk the Moon. Can't tell you how glad I am. If I die, I want to wake up back in the 80s.
I'm 52 years old, and I remember "downloading" this song saturday by night from my radio to a 90 min chrome cassette. I waited by weeks until I captured it
That's soo TRUE! ..we did this captures with a lot of patience 😅... amazing how music works more hard in those times ..Great detail ! ..God bless you ✨

“Life’s no cruise with a cool chick, too many folks feelin’ car sick” love it
Talk Talk and Prefab Sprout I so remember listening to in my youth on a cassette Walkman
My first Prefab Sprout Album from 1988. Some others followed. First time I saw a video. I love it.
I can't remember any other song in which the crash cymbal played such an important role. This guys are so musical....
I'm deeply concerned why this genius has never hit the top spot. When love breaks down is not the best song of its generation. It's the best song of all time. Thanks the Sprouts
The perfect pop song.
Ma jeunesse… et ce groupe, et cette chanson sur laquelle j’ai dansé encore et encore… 🙏🌿💙🩵💛
Song makes me cry even after 25 years.
I hope it is tears of happiness. It had a major impact on me at the age of 18 in 1988. Unique and unlike anything else before or since. Now I am 51 it is sometimes hard to connect my imagination to that time as it is so long ago and so much water has passed under the bridge but it reminds me of the optimism of my late 1980s. I hope time has been kind to you.
@@eightiesmusic1984 Sort of;but they were the best of times though!!!
Every time I listen its like the first time i have ever listened, yesterday (35 years ago) was on the dance floor of some club dancing to it without a care in the world, and that gives a extra meaning to the lyrics (just look at me now). Thank you Prefab Sprout.
Fun fact.. I played this on repeat 46 times today.... Never gets old... Love to all dreamers out there.... All right
.
It never ever fails ❤ love sent back 🙏
Thought I was the only one who did such things, such joy, butterfly kisses to the 80's.
Wow you must like the song just a little! I thought I played it a lot in the late eighties when I would spend at least half an hour listening to it!
Love from a dreamer ❤
loved them along with Deacon Blue, Big Country and so many other mythical bands of the 80s
Big Country GREAAAAATTTTTT
The breathless style of Deacon Blue's "When will you" is priceless. Blessed to have been a kid in the 80s and a young adult in the 90s. Two great eras of music.
Agree. This fantastic song reminds me of Deacon Blue.
Profound songwriting by a brillant 80s band.
J'ai 63 ans et je regrette ces 80 s ou la vie était si douce avec ces musiques 🎶🎵❤️🎶❤️🎵
Brilliant band.
In my 62 years on earth, these guys are in my top three bands of all time and I love a lot of different music!🤔😎 some things hurt more, MUCH MORE than cars and girls!😓
I'd love to know which are the other bans in your top three.
I meant to type "bands"!
So many memories. Good times, thanks Paddy❤
I was 12 in 1980. So much happened during the next ten years that it would be impossible to list them. This song was one of those things though so enough said!
"Guess this world needs its dreamers. May they never wake up" I love that part.
Miss these happy days.. :-))))
Paddy is a singer who is sonorous and mellifluous, sounding like an sports jacket-wearing American.
I’m 49 now. I just heard this song for the first time today- November 2nd, 2022. I don’t know how that happened that I went all this time without ever hearing this fantastic song before.
I know if I’d have ever heard it before, it would have caught my ear like it does now. While the music I like now has dramatically expanded, I know this song has so many elements and features of music I’ve always liked.
In addition, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song from this band before. And I lived through all of the 1980s and have memories of every calendar year in that decade, many of them music-centric.
There’s nothing about this song that is particularly alternative or edgy or outside of the musical mainstream at the time that would suggest this song wouldn’t have been all over the radio. And yet I’ve never heard it until today.
Some things cannot be easily squared or understood.
somethings hurt more much more than cars and girls, and i think its time............. Time that hurts the most.
they have another song ''king of rock and roll''
@@patjungle9826 ....their songs do sound too similar though.......i'm more into Depeche Mode, Camouflage, Alphaville, The Cure..........
@@patjungle9826 ...yes, i've stopped listening to almost all new music over last 20 years......still some good music but mostly junk over the last 20 years.....for Camouflage - only listen to their 1st album (that smiling face, pompeiji, music for ballerinas, i once had a dream)
Listen to "When love breaks down" It's one of their best!!
Prefab Sprout is an often overlooked band...They were very talented...Love this song...
+Brad Hill totally what i thought early on this month - when this song appeared on the radio . Soft song full of beautiful melody genius .

Sublime! first time i listen to them, even though 80's are my favourite
In my 10 favorite bands and it lasts...since 30 years
The band still exist. Paddy McAloon just stated few years ago that Prefab Sprout would stick to studio albums only. No more live or tv appearances
National Anthem for 80 teen agers
...and 20 something's...
My gateway drug to my 35 year devotion to this wonderful band
This should have been a much bigger hit than it was bring back the 80s
Its criminal that songs of this ilk are overlooked because they are forever linked to Hot Dog, Jumping Frog, Albuquerque. He wrote so many songs that deserved much wider acclaim. I have followed this band for 40 years now! I'm getting old xD
Just such a dreamy, soft and shimmering band. I could listen to them forever.
Macaloon is a fantastic songwriter, the poignancy, hey manhattan, & many many more, so many gr8 songs, these songs are timeless.
Heard this song on Radio 2 the other day and now I can't stop playing it. My neighbours must think I'm mad!!! Hard to believe this song didn't make the UK Top 40, brilliant song by an underrated 80's band. Paddy McAloon is a genius.
It was a big hit for them in 1988.
Like so many great 'older' songs, listen to this in my sixties, and I'm young again. Best thing is, I appreciate them more now..what a time to be alive!
Great to read these comments. The kids I taught in the 80s loved this band, hope they remember the great music and the great times.
Dear me so many memories as an awkward teenage of England, fantastic.
Prefab Sprout remind me of a great time in my life.
