Lyrics
'Cause I'd tear out the pages
That I've got in these books
Just to find you some words
Just to get some reward
And I'll show you all the photographs
That I ever got took
And I'll play you old 45s
That now mean nothing to me
And you're a real gone kid
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
I'll do what I should have did
Now I've stood on your shadow
And I've watched it grow
And it's shaken and it's driven me
And let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know
About all the old 45s
And the paperback rooms
And it's scattered all the photographs
Of summers and suns
And you're a real gone kid
And maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
I'll do what I should have did
'Cause you're a real gone kid
I cried and I craved
Hoped and I've saved
And I put away those souvenirs, souvenirs, souvenirs
Cried and I craved
Hoped and I've saved
And I put away those souvenirs, souvenirs, souvenirs
You're a real gone kid
And maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
Maybe now baby (maybe now baby)
I'll do what I should have did
'Cause you're a real gone kid
'Cause you're a real gone kid
'Cause you're a real gone kid
(Do what I shoulda done)
'Cause you're a real gone kid
(Say what I shoulda said)
You're a real gone kid
You're a real gone kid - Hudba
This was played at my sisters funeral the other day. I will play this song with it hitting a little different from now on. Rest in peace my beautiful angel, Elizabeth. Forever 39 💙💜💚💛🧡❤️
Wow that is so powerful..so sorry for your loss
May she rest in peace
❤
I'm 40, and sitting in my rainy garden, in England. This song means a million forgotten memories from a long time ago now, knowing people who I can't remember the names of. I am sure your sister was the same...just making her way, and taking it all in...just like we all do. I have a sister, too. She's 39. My little sister. Emma. You have my love, and wishes. Make her happy, and proud as she watches you...which she is. Do what she shoulda did. X
Sincere sympathy.
I have the lyric your a real gone kid on a vase on my brothers grave it reminds me of the good times we had and makes me smile.
This was in the charts when I met my wife at 21, she was 19. Got married 6 years later, first daughter 3 yrs after that and still happily married with two very grown up daughters, happy times, sigh. I hope anybody reading this is as fortunate as me.
Me 2❤
Going to see them in South Africa in Feb2024
My hubby and I echo your sentiment .God bless your family for another good year ahead.
That’s all anyone could want. The older I get the more I grasp what really matters.
Good stuff bro! Sending love to your family
Is it just my impression, or was the 80s by far the best decade for Scottish music? There just seemed to be tons of great bands back then.
Not to forget BIG COUNTRY 😁
The Shamen
💯🥰
@@thegeop5906omg!!!!! I nearly forgot about them! Coming up to mid 50’s miss those days 🤷♀️big LOVE TO WHO EVER YOU ARE AND HOPE YOU ARE LIVING YOURE BEST LIFE, even though I know times are tough. Be strong don’t give up🤗🥰🌻
The Proclaimers? You wouldn't walk 500 miles for them? :(
Lead singer (Ricky) and backup singer (Lorraine) have been married since 1990, which just makes me happy. You can see the energy between them, whole band really. Awesome track.
o yes
4 kids too, this was my girlfriend/best friend favourite ban. She was killed in 1991. I like to think she's listening with me 32 yrs later. Still miss her deeply everyday.
:(@@andiwishthat1103
Lorraine outshines her husband here
Not surprised he's still with her she was a catch
Age 52 and just discovered this brilliant band ....better late than never...❤

Born in 93, grew up listening to 80s music. Music isn’t the same anymore, there’s no real meaning! Love the golden oldies 💚
Los '80 '90 y '70 fue, es y será las décadas de la mejor música internacional.

An absolute classic that sounds as refreshing to listen to in 2023 as the day of release
What an iconic song, nothing beats the 80s...who agrees ?
Was born 83 so i think 90s
The first part of the 90s was brilliant and britpop was fantastic, a blur fan myself lol
The 70s
80s were the Best
ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC
70s and the first half of the 90s were good but i agree with you the 80s were the best.
OH Sweet Jesus... Please Take me Back to the 80’s 🙏
No doubt you are beautifully Irish. 💚💚💚
1st January 1980 as a teen!
@@mrdamianmac …. Yes, I am Irish .. Ha! 😊☘️… I guess I miss when music was Real & the 80’s/90’s were the best 👍
Me too!!
I agree, even if I was only a kid in the 80's. 90's was great too !! Greetings from Argentina to our irish brothers !!
Quality. When the world was normal and fun.
I literally spent 6 years trying to find this song when I heard the beginning of it on the radio but I had no clue at all except for the first 20 seconds: didn't knew the band, name, lyrics, anything. Then one day I heard just 2 seconds of the first part of the song on the radio and I knew that was the song that I spent so many years looking for and this time I could listen to it completely and get to know all about it. You guys can't imagine how happy I was when I finally found it...
Similar story for me with 'Life in a Northern Town'. I never knew the bands name until I heard it years later on the car radio and I pulled over to hear the DJ say it was by 'The Dream Academy'. Sometimes a song just hits a nerve and this song did it for me.
I found it because a Spanish Italian song siempre siempre sounds similar and sent it to my dad asking what song it sounded like he answered straight away deacon blue was happy
Glad you found it, it must have resonated with you. I grew up with them but totally forgot it ❤️
Me 2 😍🎵🎶🎁
Oh I can imagine.❤
I remember going to Blackpool. And meeting a bunch of guys from Stirling, Scotland. I put Deacon blue wages day on the jukebox. All the Scottish kids started dancing with us. One of the greatest evenings I ever had. That was over 30 years ago. I don't know where those bunch of lads are now. I hope that still alive, married with wonderful kids. And enjoying life.
Deacon blue was my favorite band back in the day.
Wages day great tune.Callum Smith walks out to wages day or one of his brothers great boxers top lads.
Its these kind of comments that make me read the comments for songs o you tube. The beauty of music is the memories it brings when you hear a random old tune
B l nice one mate 👍🏽
@@gav-relton9793 and his brother Paul's nickname is the real gone kid! They love a bit of Deacon Blue!
Universal memory & I wasn't even there, good times
Doesn’t this song just want to make you smile ?!
Fantastic song but did we ever really look that young ?😮
Oh, how I miss those days…
Always said its a feel good song 😊
I love this Deacon Blue song Real gone Kid Scotland should be so proud of this Wonderful brilliant band Deacon Blue 💙 from a 61 years young Irishman fan from Dublin 🇮🇪☘️
That female vocalist has one out of this world voice..
It’s a shame people never heard more of it, it’s pretty prominent in I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and Cover From The Sky

So sorry it’s a brilliant song
Deacon Blue were one of the most underrated groups of the 80's.
YES
the were always in the shadow of simple minds
Brilliant band indeed, saw them "live" in Bradford about 20 years ago. It was a FANTASTIC gig.
Too true! They made some excellent music
Are you sure they were well on our top list in Stoke on Trent and thats for sure but having said that we were always the city for dancing first disco The Place first all nighter The Torch the first ever to play northern soul
This song was and is so full of energy and will still be a belter in another 35 years time.
I heard them rehearsing today at Hampton Court as I was strolling around. I was blown away by the harmonies. Wonderful 🪻🌷🎵🎶💞
Brilliant band ❤
Nostalgia is the most beautiful form of pain
Very well said…I often come back watching videos from the 80s with a bittersweet feeling. What makes it painful is the fact that music nowadays is mostly crap
You have that spot on my friend
Scotland have produced some great bands over the years. This Band are up with the best. Hello from Ireland
*You're A Real

@@DA-ep8dk Its Jamie Davies I love listening to this song too it's awesome song D A my mate.

That's the thing about brilliant music, it's timeless for a reason.
Its Jamie Davies I love this song too Andrew Buchan and how are you doing Andrew Buchan my mate.

This song came out when my late mother was pregnant on me. I heard it since I was in the womb. Growing up when it used come on she used sing the "maybe now baby" verse. 😂 She passed away in February after being estranged for years.
This song snd others from the 80s remind me of when she was more carefree. This song is timeless!❤
This song takes me back to a really happy time in life. In school and thinking that life just couldnt get better. A song that captures that joy and never fails to take me back to those times any time I need some light amidst the dark that can sometimes be life as an adult.
I couldnt of said it better myself dignity is amazing aswell g know the story to the song thats why gt means so much to me . I was listening to them toniight almong with other various soft rock music i was born hn 1977 but i really love musicthat was out before i was born mental huh.

I haven’t heard this song for such a long time and it’s still as good the first time around.
I’m 53 years old now.
I’m a real gone kid. 😂😂
When 80's music was underrated, but now very much appreciated 😀
Lorraine's voice compliments Ricky's voice perfectly...what an amazing voice love this track
One of the best background singers
And still going strong... czcams.com/video/d9JmILWh5i8/video.html
Reminds me so much of my teen years growing up in Australia 🇦🇺. What a time to be alive!!!❤
Saw them at Scarbados last week. Absolutely brilliant.
Memories....🎉 listened back in 1989 when I was a 10yr old kid in a Pizza Hut 🍕 in Slough, Berkshire on Sunday evening.
Love at the heart of Deacon BLUE IS A LOVING MARRIED COUPLE . RICKY AND HIS WIFE Lorraine McIntosh . still happily married after all these years well done James
Excuse me, how amazing is the vocal arrangement and harmonies on this song!!!!!!!!!
Those two! The energy, the passion, the voices and those eyes. OMG
They are married (in 1990) , what a duo hey !
I think I have every album they made, I don't think there's a bad song on any of them, a really underated band!
This is one of those tracks that gets better every time you hear it, i also think it resonates with people approaching retirement age who first heard it in their early 30's
Lorraine & Ricky's voices always played off well against each other, her timing was impeccable.
What a great pop record from a talented group. Lorraine has the most gorgeous eyes and her energy comes across. Ricky has the writing talent. Modern pop hasn't got the same appeal. IMO.
Hope they can carry on for many years. Their kids are grown up now I believe.
Ya,she's beautiful and Super talented
And very pretty
Was at Newcastle arena last night, absolutely fantastic, one of the best bands I've seen. Great night Deacon Blue class band , love this song.
I saw them in Leicester a couple of weeks ago too - I would certainly not have performed so brilliantly if I was doing all that travelling! ❤
Definitely had a crush on Lorraine as a kid. Her smile ❤❤
Still sounds as fresh as it's day! Pure timeless class
Finding these kick arse bands that still rock 20 years later is like finding gold . Timeless and so positive
Wowie they're finally coming to our shores ..South Africa next month and Im so super excited , our sons bought my hubs and I tickets to the concert ..we're finally going to belt 0ut all the mistaken lyrics and celebrating 30 yrs of marriage, Im his forever " Chocolate girl and he's my Friend called Bogie...( our surname Seboa)
Dignity along with this are classics and are truly perfect examples of the 80’s
You're a real gone kid..😉
dignity is the only DB record I hate but mostly because it evokes memories of darker days for me personally.
1st Deacon Blue song I heard was, Chocolate Girl and it's still number 1 in my Deacon Blue top 10 .
Great song - a REAL band who play instruments, have great voices and you can actually understand what they are singing! 80s FOREVER!!
Of all the most-celebrated, obvious ’80s pop hits, this one is often sadly overlooked, even though, in my not-so-humble opinion, it’s one of the finest of its era.
At 64 yrs old, I still sing this on karaoke, and still everyone dances 💃 🕺 to it, fabulous track, Ricky I'm going to say it, Lorraine is absolutely stunning, gorgeous eyes and fabulous voice, oh and you scrub up well lol 😆 😀 the most underrated band of the 80s, but for me love your music xx
this was my best friend desy robinsons funeral song, been a year today my friend al never forget the precious memories bro you made a big impact on my life love u m8,Neil, Sarah and the kids xxxx
So glad I was in my teens in the 80s with great music and groups like this, back in the days when Scotland was pumping out amazing musical talent....fantastic memories 🤗🤗
Best decade of music for me too..
Yep Hue and Cry were one of the best around at the time in my humble opinion although we won't mention the Proclaimers lol
I'm back in the day, in the car listening to this on the cassette player with my husband, Gareth . happy times. We were together for 34 yrs until I lost him to cancer at 58 yrs old in 2020. You think you've got forever but you don't. This reminds me of you Gar. Miss you love......
Precious memories 💚
Aweee RIP Gareth .Hold onto the prescious love you both shared.Love Never Ends .God bless you my dear .
I went from 16 years to 26 years old in the 80s and thought I had heard every song from that decade. I mean I listened to EVERYTHING. Rock, Pop, New Wave, Alternative, Country, and R&B. I MEAN EVERYTHING, but somehow I had never heard this song. Then, about 5 or 6 years ago I was watching a movie and there was a scene where the characters went into the kitchen and there was a little clock radio on the counter playing this song. It caught my ear so I rewound the movie 3 or 4 times to listen and couldn't figure out what it was. So, I Shazam'd it and it has been one of my favorite songs ever since. I only wish I had heard it when it came out so I could have attached it to a memory.
Thank you Deacon Blue for this timeless classic, love this tune forever, love from Ireland ❤🤟
If this song was released now it would have a billion views
No matter how old you are, you can't go wrong if you take a trip back to the 80s. No other era will ever surpass it, for great tunes.
@Lore Grimm Absolutely! Makin' a journey 2 the 80s is always worth a visit, even if u don't know what 2 Xpect. I'm sure most of those get pleased with it !!!
Mate, aged 47 now, but i yearn for the 80s
One of my all time favourite groups and songs , when I first heard this song, I thought they were singing living out baby than maybe now baby 😄
Still play this today, not ashamed to say and sing loudly in the car to it. Famtastic.

I just saw Ricky and Lorraine, on a show in January this year and they sing wonderfully the same as 32 years ago ... They are magnificent and it is one of my unforgettable songs from the 80's ... Thanks for the memories.
They are playing this song on ‘This Morning’! To say I’m over the moon is an understatement! They are still fabulous.
They sound the same.. shes still got loads of energy
Cynthia Beeko they were incredible!
Was watching it with my mother who sadly is very ill and it really cheered her up as it got me singing and dancing!

Love this song one of those songs you don’t hear often so it keeps fresh
Hello again 3 songs and you have been here
My sister and I saw deacon blue for the first time when we we 13 and 14 respectively and they brought the Mike down to us in the front to sing our little hearts out to

You and me both. On the bright side, we got to live them. Future generations will never know. I guess they can't miss what they've never had.
Take me back! The joy and fun back then! I'm 62 and still dance in the kitchen to this! ( when they're all out of course....or they would probably put me away)

I first heard This Song from the movie Eddie The Eagle on my High School 2 Months Ago, This song was appeared on the scene where Eddie stole his dads van to go back to Bronson's place, we did this task for Eddie the eagle on my English class, Its a great song and a Great Movie.
Deacon Blue are the quintessence of Scottish indy music ,just love the Celtic vibes off this song
This song is my daily dose of serotonin
It's my go to song of my life way back..In a easier world..
This song brings me back to my boarding school days, I was 17 then, bought this single from Woolworth, played this contantly in the dorm, happier times then, no covid 19 shit
Every time I here this fantastic song I well-up, it’s so powerful and timeless, to be able to do that to me always and I’m 73 !! My favourite song !!
This song takes me back to 1988 when I met Spanish girl, Maria Candida, she was an au pair working over here in the uk. We saw each other for 6 months, she went back to Madrid, I went over to see her a month later. After that we never met again. The only girl to ever break my heart!!!
I heard this song today on a Portuguese radio, I hadn't heard this song in over 20 years! OMG, another gem from the 80s, this is going straight to my playlist!
Think they should scrap modern music and just release the complete back catalogue from the 80's👍
I quite agree modern music is rubbish.
Could not agree more 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻💫💫💫💫
David Cowley not a bad idea.
Hell yeah. Music today is crap. In 10 years time you won't remember the acts that's around now.

The 80s was a hard time but some amazing music was carved out. U will never get this time again.
