    I have a good friend that has a 2007 Volvo S60 T5 and she loves that thing. I've put many hours into fixing all the little problems it had when she first bought it. And for something like a year and a half afterward, she had a rock solid, reliable car. But late last year, it had chipped both exhaust valves on the #4 cylinder. So, for just under $800 in parts and an entire weekend in her driveway, we wound up doing a complete top end rebuild. This car has nearly 230K miles on it and it's still running strong.

    • @Sandmansa
      @Sandmansa Před rokem +2

      @@zzoinks It's hard to say exactly what causes the valves to chip. My guess it's from a combination of a clogged PCV, small oil leak from the turbo and low octane gas causing excess carbon buildup. That in turn can create a compression leak and hot spots on the valve faces. When my friend got the car a little over 2 years ago, it barely ran. It looked like the last owner treated this car like dirt and nearly ran it into the ground. I used to work for a local Volvo dealer for over 12 years. So yeah. My friend has a lot of appreciation for my knowledge and skill with Volvo's. LOL.

    Honda makes a Teflon tape with mice printed on it,($44) this is tape that mice don't like to chew. You can buy Teflon tape on Amazon much cheaper, wrap those wires with this tape and it should discourage mice. I also spray the ebay and underside with peppermint essential oil mixed with water which mice don't like. I live in Tucson Az and have to deal with rodents a lot, these work. There is also copper wool MAT that you can cram around the gas tank ant save the wires on top of it. I have had about $20,000 damage before I started using these. Lights sort of work for awhile until they get used to them then it lights up their buffet. The modern wires are coated with insulation that is soy based and they love this.

I can't tell you how many times we've made wiring or fuel line repairs to a customers vehicle and the customer comes back in a few days with the same problem. It's like the rodents are pissed about the repair! Damaged again in the same exact spot. The only thing we've found to help with any consistency is a stainless steel wire loom that we put on the repaired area. We've seen the rodents chew on the wire loom a bit but so far, they've never gotten through.We've tried the Honda rodent tape, spraying body sealer, putting grease or silicone on the fix. You are probably thinking that’s no big deal, serpentine belts break fairly often and are typically easy to replace! Well with this design often when the serpentine belt breaks it gets sucked into the timing cover, wrapping itself around the cam pulleys and throwing the cams out of time and allowing the valves to get up close and personal with the pistons.

    Hey Ivan, greetings from Greece!
    Just an FYI for your customer, this S60 has a recall for the driver's airbarg!
    Tell the guy to get this beast to the dealership so that he has a new airbag for free!
    Cheers!

    I used to have a 2001 V70 T5, it died after 520k km's. Same platform as the S60. Good engine. Pretty quick car too. 250km/h (limited) on the German autobahn. AutoTrans? Not so much. Electronics? Meh... Magneti-Marelli...ETM. ABS, ESP... But nice to drive, great seats and general ergonomics.

    That Volvo hood blanket material seems to be quite the snack for rodents -- the hood blanket on my V50 is chewed up in the same way.
    Besides that, excellent repair. The TS100 is a pretty indispensible tool to have in any tool case if you deal with electrics a lot.

      @@abdul-kabiralegbe5660they take it a step further with Volvos are as well because it will use other sensors to compensate. Fuel pressure sensor sensor for example, probably either running pump at 100% or measuring pressure at sending unit. No cam shaft sensor probably using crank sensor and because fixd amount between the two well shouldn’t be adjusted out at startup/idel. it can work backwards from there to correct itself. None of these would be able to make it run smooth it would run like dog shit but it would reliably run and get you home.
