    Ive pre ordered, and after viewing many reviews I think its almost perfect for me. I have the Hero 7, and its stabilisation is amazing, but it doesn’t keep the horizons straight, and useless at night. My option is to use a Karma grip, or my iphone with Osmo2. The Osmo Pocket is the best of both worlds. All the features of the Osmo2 like face tracking etc, but in a device that fits in my pocket or camera bag. I do agree about the Hero 7 colours and exposure looking better, but its a tiny camera, not a pro camera rig. Ideal for holidays and just having ti with you. It wont replace my Hero 7, but will get used a lot more.

    Hello, thanks for in-depth review, I'm interested to see how well DJI Osmo Pocket in low-light situation.
    How is it compared to phones like iPhone X or Pixel 3, because most of us already have a phone that can shoot 100Mbps footage with help from apps like Filmic Pro.

  • @jonelafilms
    @jonelafilms Před 5 lety +36

    I find it very cheeky how DJI released a better version with 120fps for the tech testers. They obviously knew that testers would use the best parameters that they can to showcase it, and yet here you go the average consumer gets half the amount of fps. Very very cheeky. I know for me that was nearly my selling point but now I might just wait out a year or two and see if they come out with something better.

    • @WoodooAlien

      Joshua Hernandez That isn't how marketing works. If they give the "first shot" with the perfect product, what's next? I'm sure they're waiting for their competitors take this challenge, then we'll see "what's next".

    • @consumeboxing
      @consumeboxing Před 5 lety

      Nugraha Barkah your right. I don’t know nothing/much about effective business marketing but it’s technically not their “first shot.” They had the DJI Osmo, Osmo+, OM, OM2, and now Osmo Pocket. An impressive product that can be enhanced w/ a mic attached which imo is a bit annoying. This could have been the definite vloggers choice of camera. This thing is lightweight and subtle w/ great specs for vlogging/CZcams. This is an ideal product for the run & gun technique w/ quality except the audio sucks.

    Just discovered your channel while researching this new OSMO; good information that you guys cover, thanks! But, you must have missed the extension arm on the DJI site that also gives you a tripod mount, holds your smartphone for viewing, and gives you all the button controls on the handle of the extension arm. Also, for all the people complaining about the audio, I've never once used in-camera audio or even plugged a mic into a camera (whether it's a DSLR, an iPhone or a GoPro.) I ALWAYS record audio separately, and if you are serious about filmmaking, you should too.

That thing with the 1080p120 recording is pretty bizarre and DJI better get in front of that quick or they're going to have a lot of angry people who were all shown 120 fps slow mo video from all the pre-release reviewers. This way all they have to say is that they have no control over what the independent reviewers say, you should have read the specs. Just like when the first Sony A7 cameras came out (which I bought) all the reviewers were saying it was weather sealed while Sony quietly removed that from its website leaving many customers (not me) with water damaged cameras.

    The mic kills me. Being able to hear myself perfectly in post while walking through the NYC subway with just the GoPro was awesome. Adding on the mic and little widget wheel seems excessive, but it isn't going to have that weird jumpy focus the GoPro has when lighting isn't ideal and stabilization is on. Personally, I'm going to hold out until the mic accessory is out and we see what image is like on the production units.

All over CZcams are these amazing videos with glowing footage that makes us flock to to preorder... but the "showroom" DJI Osmo Pocket isn't what we get when we order. • @ScottJWaldron

    Still a really interesting device, but it usually seems to be the case where as more information comes out on a device it turns into something less appealing (in this case AF isn't phase detect, no 120fps, needs a phone in some cases for control, no tripod mount integrated into it, etc). With all of the accessories this needs, the Gopro generally seems like a better value.

    I haven't used the osmo pocket yet, but the "soft face focus" thing is something that dji is struggling with since the very first osmo (with x3 and x5 camera). Already back then, a stretched arm was necessary to make the thing focus on your face. Not sure if people have the same problem with the osmo mobile (cause they use their phones, which are not dji cameras), but since the osmo pocket is actually a Mavic air camera, this might be why 😰

    Mic trough USB-C is same as Go Pro. I can understand for GoPro because of the Water resistant case.

With osmo pocket the gimbal stabilization is hardware bound and the only way it can evolve is by a new hardware version! Also, GoPro is much mature and had great external support! Thanks for your great reviews on DJI osmo pocket! I hope DJI is reading the comments here. I am very excited with the product but I wan't buy it yet as my Android phone has no USB-C port so I wan't be able to even activate it after purchase. By the way it should work without any activation! I understand that they will offer it as EXTRA accessory but it is just not fair for all those potential clients who have older phones. DJI - you are loosing clients not providing essential component in the box. I am sure there is more people with phones using mini USB port and they have a choice of buying a new phone or overpriced DJI accessory. I also hope that 120fps at HD mode will be eventually available. It seems like it is a intentional so it does not compete with other more expensive products. Anyway potentially it is a great product and I see myself using it for my CZcams channel in the future.

    The more the details are fleshed out, the GoPro Hero 7 seems like the better option. Less crap to buy after the fact and less worry about durability and water exposure. All the add-ons are a cash grab. It was never about keeping this small, it was about the never ending up sale!

      I have to agree.. this is the "razor and blades business model damn near. They made the selling point great but not without removing a ton of usability. I can't wait to see the product spread at best buy for this thing.. camera is that 2% of the shelf.. the other 98% is allllllll the stuff that should come with it! Surprised they didn't make you buy the phone adapter... they had to package that because without it the product is severely limited.. the rest of the limitation "unlocking" is gonna cost ya

  • @IntersexGamer
    @IntersexGamer Před 5 lety

    Well id definitely look forward to more Q&A. This video definitely helped out a lot in answering questions I had. That said as someone more on the amateur level of video right now it seems like they couldve done things a bit better. If they couldve used a 2 inch screen, tripod mount, and a 3.5mm mic jack this thing might be a lot better. I mean even the zoom h1n has a tripod socket. Also it couldve been improved by adding a removeable battery. It wouldnt have to be a big one just one that you could remove and put another one in just in case the battery dies and you havent gotten the shot you wanted yet. However like i said im pretty much amateur for video so I may not know anything yet it just seems its almost a little too tiny to hold comfortably especially if you wanted to do some shots in the snow it could get lost real easily.

    Well, the missing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity is a simple appleish approach. You must pay about 70 bucks for that thing, which also serves as a stand on flat surfaces. That's utterly ridiculous.

    Very nice. It's strange though...your audio from the Osmo was garbage, but on another review it was perfectly passable. Was your hand over the mic?
    Also, regarding 120p: is it actually "1080/120" or is it "1080 4x slow". Again, another review showed 4x slow, which looked like the final file was 30fps but slow.
    I'm hoping you will do a follow up review with the "release" firmware. Sad you will lose a feature or two, though..

    • @WoodooAlien

    • @connormccaskill
      @connormccaskill  Před 5 lety +2

      Ya there were a lot of considerations with audio. My hand was over the mic temporarily, it was windy, and had ocean waves. It’s still not very good though compared to the GoPro built in audio and a mic jac accessory for the Osmo Pocket will be essential in my opinion.
