- Measuring by Mean Radius 10-Shot Groups with AR556 and Hornady’s 55 FMJ Training Ammo
In this video, I shoot ten 10-shot groups with Hornady training ammo out of an AR 556 at 25 yards. Towards the end of the video we talk about measuring by mean radius. Check out the link below the Hornady podcast number 99 where they discussed this in detail.

Great discussion, I appreciate the reference to the Hornady podcast--they should give you a shout out. Congrats on your subscribers!
Thanks Salmon, much appreciated
Just discovered your channel. I am really enjoying it. Thank you
@@finalaccuracy7695 cool. I appreciate it. And thanks for watching!
@EverydayReloadingandShooting Quick question. If you're trying to get a good zero are you basing it off your mean radius? I am completely changing my load development and zeroing method after watching the Hornady podcast and your channel. I am still trying to nail down what I specifically want to do. I did get the 4DOF group analysis after watching your videos.
@@finalaccuracy7695 that's awesome! You will love the 4DOF app. Mean radius is not for the purpose of zeroing your rifle. It's for the purpose of telling you how you, your ammo, and your rifle are performing. The thing is, if you only measure extreme spread, you are only taking into consideration two data points. All of the other shots get ignored. By measuring mean radius, you are taking every shot into consideration. If you look at some of my prior videos you'll see that I used to shoot five shot groups. Now that I am using the Hornady app, I am shooting 10, and sometimes 20 shot groups. you get a lot more information that way.
PS: the app is very user-friendly, but there is also a Hornady podcast on CZcams where they go through how to use the app in detail. I would recommend watching that to get a better handle on how to use the app. Happy shooting!
@@EverydayReloadingandShooting Thank you!
Mean radius tells a broader story and gives you a hit probability on a given target size.
And it uses the data points of every shot; not just the two of the extreme spread. Thanks for watching.
Shout out to the Hornady App! Well worth the $5 for access to the Group Analysis data…
Definitely worth it! Thanks for watching
@@EverydayReloadingandShooting maybe you should do a quick review, i was unaware of the measuing function. I ala cart buy the reloading info relevant to my bullets that i purchase
@@Salmon3651 great suggestion. I've actually thought about that but in order to demonstrate how to use the app I would need a second camera. Plus Hornady already has a video out there showing how to use it. Thanks for watching.
@@Salmon3651 a video on this should post tomorrow, thanks to you. Great suggestion. Hope you enjoy it.
A lot to be happy about that test. Consider the possablilty that best accuracy is gone after about 30 shots as the barrel needs to be cleaned.
Good point. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
you can include an "extra dimension" of performance and measure the average for the day across x amount of targets for instance x" average group size/ # of targets. It can be a little annotation at the bottom corner.
@Salmon3651 sure, I can do that. In fact on some of my targets I have done that or I do an overall average for all of them. Sometimes I don't because I'm comparing two such different loads, but I will typically average each of those. Thanks for pointing this out. And thanks for watching
