  • In this video we teach you how to install a doorbell from start to finish and the components you need to install a doorbell. This video will also show you the wiring diagram for installing a doorbell. This is the standard wiring for most doorbells in the US.
    Recommended Transformer: amzn.to/2oWwGAO
    Recommended Doorbell Chime: amzn.to/31WI7Xw
    Smart Doorbell: amzn.to/2VnWrpS
    If you are planning on installing a doorbell or adding a doorbell it's a good idea to make sure you have enough power for a smart doorbell like the Ring or Nest Doorbell. I highly recommend using a smart doorbell to increase the safety and security of your home, I have one installed on my home and it has successfully discouraged package thieves and caught a delivery driver destroying my fence.
    This doorbell wiring video can also help you troubleshoot and diagnose doorbell issues to understand how your doorbell is wired in the wall. I personally have Ring Pro Doorbell installed on my home but also have tested and used a Nest Hello doorbell on my home. Both are high quality smart doorbells and I recommend either of them.
    Before installing a doorbell you want to make sure that you turn off the power to the circuit you are working on.

    This is the second home in which czcams.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    The loops in your wire need to face clockwise so they tighten around the terminal screw.

  • @macrefinerymartinez1430
    @macrefinerymartinez1430 Před 8 měsíci +7

    Wire loops are backwards. The loops should be facing clockwise in the same direction as when the screws are tightened. You can see the red wire from the switch to the doorbell slide off as the screw is tightened.

    if you are planning to exclusively use a smart doorbell with wireless electronic devices serving as the chime (like an Alexa/homepod/googlenest) couldn't you skip the physical chime altogether? wiring directly to the power source?

    • @twjung
      @twjung Před 2 lety +2

      Yes if you are doing a wireless activated chime then yes you could go straight from the door bell transformer to the smart door bell and won't need to power a normal door chime.

      @@twjung So, I have an old-style doorbell chime, like the one in this video. I'm planning to install a smart doorbell. You're suggesting that I should be able to disconnect the wires from the chime and then connect the white and red cables, which would typically run through the chime, correct? IF I wanted to bypass the traditional chime?

    • @twjung
      @twjung Před rokem

      @@MatthiasLowry correct it should be no problem to by pass your existing chimes for the new ones with your camera.

  • @johnq6123
    @johnq6123 Před 3 lety

    Can you split the wire to make 2 separate chime connections? My chime burnt out when contractor was working on front door install (but he has no idea what could have caused it; LOL)
    I wanted to put double chimes side by side to replace old one (increasing DBs in same location); took the wire that was existing that was connected to burnt chime and spliced 2 new wires in (all 3 reds in one wire nut and all 3 blacks in the other). I already had 30amp transformer bc I wanted to this originally but never did. Thanx in advance for the help!

    • @twjung
      @twjung Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you could run double chimes if you have enough amps coming from your door bell chime. Just look at the door bell chime and see how many amps each door bell chime needs. So if one chime needs 10 amps then you would need at least 20 amps for two of the same chimes.

    Is it possible to wire only a ring doorbell to the transfomer because I have a bluetooth chime?

    • @abdallaartail1978
      @abdallaartail1978 Před 10 měsíci

      Had the same question, but based on the circuit shown, it seems possible to just go: first transformer screw terminal to first (video)doorbell wire and then second transformer screw terminal to second (video)doorbell wire, without passing through a chime

  • @rokinrandy
    @rokinrandy Před 5 měsíci

    Ok so there is a transformer somewhere. I have a double light switch at my front door for the porch light. And inside light. Has to be running off that. Don’t see a transformer yet without removing drywall. But I have a cheap door bell like that on wooden door frame. It has to go. Have to put the camera on the brick.

      Yeah same, that's the most important part imho.

    • @twjung
      @twjung Před 2 lety

      Yes you need to either tap into the same power coming from the wires for an outlet or you need to go all the way to breaker box and pick up power. You will not normally need a breaker JUST for the door bell though. That would be over kill. Door bell doesn't use that many amps but you do need to keep in mind not to overload a circuit. Normally pulling power from a outlet is fine unless your home builder cheaped out and put the max amount of outlets and lights on one circuit. If you shut down the breaker and see which outlets and lights a devices don't have power then you can count everything, and add up all the amps of things turned off to get the amount of amps already on that circuit before you add your door bell. Most of the time it will be fine, but never hurts to double check.

    You didn't wire the transformer? Usless.

    • @twjung
      @twjung Před 2 lety

      That isn't hard. You just need to figure out where the best power lines are for your project and tap into power. Only you will know where the best location in your home will be for the door bell transformer. I doubt you will want the ugly door bell transform on the wall inside near the door. but if you put the door bell transformer next to your breaker box you may have a long distance to run wire to your front door. So it is up to you were you want to tap in to some power.
