A friend of mine recently brought one of these on a camping trip to Scotland, when he got it out, I could feel my eyes rolling, it looked like it was going to fall apart within seconds, but it didn't, and the performance was amazing. I couldn't believe how well it worked, and like you said, it burns damp wood quite easily, with very little smoke, by the end of the first night I was converted, easily one of the best fire pits I've ever sat around.. Purchased one myself straight away, and have never looked back, a truly amazing product!

We've used these for years. We've always called them a Fire stand.
I have had 1 for 5 tears and use it for my Leave No Trace training. niot so good in the wind. I live in Desert So Cal
Utilize aluminum foil for a "squared circle" on the mesh prior to starting the fire. Make it a few inches smaller than the mesh and use it to "choke down on the amount of oxygen feeding the fire from below" and that will extend the burn time for you.

Defeats the purpose of raising the fire off the ground.
Just use sand, clay or rocks.
I think that it's a good idea. No matter if it blocks the air coming from below. The air that comes from the sides is more than enough to keep the fire going. It also protects the mesh.
I call it "Raised Fire Pit" I got one 3 years ago from Amazon too, mine came with spare clips and 2 wire mesh, works great, no problems with it so far, the bag still works!! Over here we have what we call fire logs, they are used in open and closed fire places, they burn between 4 and 6 hrs, I use them for heat if there is no dead wood around, sometimes a combination of both, I get 4 hrs of heat out of one fire log and do my cooking on a trangia all under a tarp, never any issues, I also purchased a mat to go under the fire pit to protect the grass under it as it does burn the grass, as I do my best to leave no trace after me, so far I'm very happy with the raised fire pit which I paid €22 for. Great piece of kit👌
Looks like a great product for snowy conditions, no need to dig out a fire pit plus the heat source sits a little higher warming you faster, for firewood I just use the dead branches of the trees around me, this product looks like a win to me.

Been using one of these in the UK for years! The mesh does deteriorate quite quickly, but you can buy a replacement 22" mesh for under a tenner.
Fire Hammock
A lot of Japanese campers use these mesh fire stands. They keep the ash contained for easy removal which is a requirement in Japan. They also load them up with firewood, lots of split log wood and no problems with durability. Windy conditions would cause extreme caution. So many variations of these exist, which to choose is the hard part.

Plenty of super cool camping gear in Japan especially with fire. With weak yen, prices are very good on Amazon Japan
i've used fire stands like this before. i didn't use them to keep warm, i used them to get a fire burning hot, pour the contents in the actual fire pit and then i can cook. they're a fast way to get good coals going but don't rely om one solely for a "good" fire.

In my experience it lasted 6 fires so turns out expensive way to have a fire
I bought one on sale from Amazon for $8 last year. I felt I couldn't go wrong at that price! It's been great. The campground firepits in coastal Oregon can be quite damp so I bought this mesh fire pit to get more air flow and avoid super smoky fires. It works perfectly.
I have this Stove and have been using it about once a month for the last 20months. I agree with all the pros and cons but have no problems with the cons other than yes it burns through a lot of material very fast compared with say my firebox stoves. That said I do like it a lot and I must be at around the 20 to 25 times used now and still no issues. Something I did add to it early on was to purchase a stand I picked up called the UCO Grilliput Portable Camping Grill which packs away tight I take out put together and stand on top of this stove. This allows me to grill things like stakes and sausages straight on the grill or throw a frying pan, pot or nesting cup on top and still keep this stove going well below it. Of all my stoves I take out, this is also the favourite one of my kids because it’s also more like a bonfire set up the can then roast marsh mellows over 👍 Lastly I agree about suitable for backpacking - I usually have used this when backpacking to a location but I have used it twice for a group car camp. When it comes to leave no trace, this thing is ideal and that is why I will always use this now rather than building a fire on the ground
I've seen this style in Korean camping videos. They use them more for heat and evening ambience, not cooking. The English channels use something similar made of bulky sheet metal. Usually a fold up base and a fold up fire bowl. Lots of perforations, but not the air access of the mesh.
A Swedish outdoor channel I follow used these during his overnighters earlier this year and I was hooked. They're very good for the money as you can just buy 2-3 of them and not worry if they break!
i got this in australia for $18 on amazong and love it, i had a expensive $200 one but it took up too much storage space and this is just right for me.
It's a good idea I think it has room for improvement like a Pop up one? maybe.
I’m not sure what I think of it….but I’m very interested. I just don’t know when or why I would use it.maybe a stealth camp. Heat up quickly , cool quickly, an$ leave no trace.

I like that you can take that anywhere. I have a beautiful fire pit in my backyard but you know it costs me almost a 100 . Where for $18 LOL you can have this one that you can put it anywhere and it's not gonna rust if you leave it out in the rain after a while.😮 And although my fire pit is beautiful with tiles and everything. It is already starting to rust. So

I've been using one of these for the last year when there is no fire pit on the campsite pitch but you are allowed to have fire as long as you leave on trace. I put it on a insulated fire blanket to protect the ground and like you have been really in pressed with it although on my last camp there is a small hole in in the mesh after about 8 nights of use. But as a light weight way of having somewhere to have a fire and not totally burn the ground it works surprisingly well.
We use these in aus, from personal experience not best for fire but coals for cooking is perfect
So impressed with that stove,, I would call it a Fire Stand.. love it..
Brilliant piece of kit, change the net clips for vine eyes. It’s a good mod.
Certainly the "no walls" thing helps enhance the fire, but it's the air coming from the bottom (through the porous mesh) that is feeding most of the extra oxygen causing a strong updraft. Pit fires get no air from underneath but plenty from the sides.

I have one just like this and have used it in the backyard a few times. I used it last weekend with charcoal and was able to place my UCO grilliput on top of it to grill some stakes.
I also am able to put a fire mat wrapped around the supports in the flimsy bag and have a much less anxious time about having a mesh firepit.

I love mine. I use it winter camping in Western Australia….we have total fire band about 6 months of the year, but I don’t camp so much then, anyway. Australian hardwoods like Jarrah burn really well on them. A bit of sand in the bottom of the mesh improves burn times and protects the mesh.

Hi Luke, I just ordered one. On my one acre wooded lot, I have tons of small twigs and limbs. This looks about right to to help keep dispose of the mess. I can rake up piles then move the pit around. Nice video.

Fire pit hammock
I purchased two stainless mesh firepits with a lil heftier build from Fireside Outdoor a couple of years ago. REI had one on display and I got two versions straight from the manufacturer. They're great for being portable enough to bring in somewhere if there's wet ground or an area they don't want the ground scorched.
I can see this being a great item for winter camping where I go, where we have a lot of deep snow. Nice review

I got the exact same ”fire pit”. And I love it (!) for three reasons: no1 I can enjoy a fire pretty much anywhere since it leaves NO TRACE! No2 like you showed, it is possible to move it under the tarp if it starts to rain. No3 you can sit with your legs under it, and really warm up your feet and legs. I used it maybe 30 times now and it still holds up. For me, I always strive to leave no trace, at the same time I just love to build a fire. i have the tripod type.. i like how it is hanging in air.. no problem lighting up even on wet camp i just put something over when its raining or foil around the frame.. but yeah, wood burns fast.. i use coal bricks instead for cooking.. you should try it as well..😉

We use ours for car camping where sites allow fires but must be raised off the ground. Much smaller pack size than most other raised firepits, and also cheap.
If you set this on a fireproof mat to help distribute the weight like the Nemo Moonlite Elite Backpacking chair this would be great in the winter for camping in the snow.
I'm getting the tripod style one for sure. I've never tried cooking over fire using a dutch oven before, so this will be a great way to learn.
Kevin, That type of hot fire is not conducive to most Dutch oven cooking. They typically work with hot coals for a steady even heat on the cast iron (and coals on the lid as well). There are some good method and recipes info sources out there for outdoor Dutch oven cooking! Not trying to dissuade you from trying, just wanted to provide a heads up!
I was a Boy Scout leader for 12 yrs we did a LOT of Dutch oven meals. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts ! GREAT, now I'm hungry! 😂

Japanese used this kind of stove for a long time. I seen this from Japanese Anime Yuru Camp . I would recommend you to watch this anime and maybe you will interest in camping in Japan.

Had mine arrive on Friday, ordered right after I caught your initial video using it. Different "brand" (Inchoco) but the exact same product down to the plastic zipper. Looking forward to using it this summer and fall.

Above ground fire mesh. One issue I have, and it's tiny one. Say, you have friends that can't walk straight or you got a buzz from a reasonable amount of beer. Then, it might be tiny problem turn into a big problem! 🤔 then there's the down side. But, it would be good in some wet areas like monsoons or snow storms.
I have the 16 inch version. I use it to make pizza while camping. I use a shallow pan and start cooking the pizza over the fire, then slide it in under the fire for top heat. I do this a couple of times over 10 minutes or so.
For the cost, I will definitely pick one up. 🤙

Had one of these. Lasted a couple years. The screws will fall off one by one and will need to be replaced because you’ll never find them again lol. And the mesh eventually melted through, leaving a giant hole

I bought one from Wish 5 years ago. Mine is only 2 pieces, the stand and the mesh, takes less than a minute to set up and half of that is getting it out of the bag. For something from Wish it’s still going strong

In rain or snow, this gets the fire up and away from cold wet ground, allowing for complete combustion. Set under the high end of a tarp protects this pit from most of the elements but allows it tho burn well.
I have had a similar fire pit since 2020 with no problems. It is OK as a fire but good for cooking.

I have looked at those things on and off for years, wondering if they were any good. Now that I've seen it in action, I suspect that Smokey the Bear is eventually going to give these the middle paw. In other words, it would not surprise me to see them eventually banned completely in the national forests, etc. All the air being fed in from the bottom of the fire is like leaving the door open on a wood stove, it is just going to stoke the heck out of the fire, continuously. That is great in snow or wet weather, but it also means it won't take much wind to make the thing incredibly dangerous in dry conditions. Some idiot is going to use one of these in conditions he shouldn't. He'll say "I never imagined that the fire could ever take off like that, that thing is unsafe" and that will be the end of that. Of course, it isn't an inherently unsafe design. But it does require a basic understanding of how fire works and some common sense. These days, that is probably too much to ask.

I have one, like it, but yes, the zipper is of plastic and I broke mine the first time I used it... one single pull and it was broken...... still like it.
One comment about the capacity: 12 kg = 26 lbs. I think this is what they meant. By the way, thanks for your videos; they are very entertaining, even for someone who does not plan to go camping any time soon! 🙂
I like your vids and just subscribed. With that being said, you might want to experiment with numerous catch phrases. With that being said resonates like at the end of the day and boots on the ground. You are quite articulate, so I know you can say other words.
