Conspiracy theories often rely on the Dunning-Kruger effect and social media for several reasons. The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with low ability or knowledge in a particular area tend to overestimate their competence and abilities. This effect is often seen in conspiracy theorists who believe that they have a greater understanding of a particular subject than experts in that field. They may also be more likely to dismiss evidence or information that contradicts their beliefs. Social media can also play a role in promoting and spreading conspiracy theories. Social media algorithms often prioritize content that generates engagement and shares, regardless of its accuracy or validity. This can create echo chambers where conspiracy theories and misinformation can spread rapidly without being fact-checked or challenged. Additionally, social media can provide a sense of community and validation for individuals who believe in conspiracy theories. They may connect with like-minded individuals and reinforce each other's beliefs, leading to a more entrenched belief in the conspiracy theory. Overall, the Dunning-Kruger effect and social media can create an environment where conspiracy theories are more likely to thrive and spread.
I do see many cases of this Dunning-Kruger effect in many cases over the internet. Basically, when people are dumb, they just can't see how dumb they are. One such case was a thief who had the most insane and most illogical idea in an attempt to rob a bank: Since lemon juice is used in invisible ink, so if he rubbed his face with lemon juice, nobody would be able to see his face. It's so stupid and so illogical and yet this person though this would work.
It sounds exactly the same. If you want your facts couched in a way that you find more palatable it doesn't change the facts. You took the time to do the math and you are comfortable with it. The statistic only demonstrates the amount of guns. Your version assumes there is barely more than one gun per person. Counting every person, you have to include a lot of people under the age of 10. You have to include every person currently in prison. You have to include every person that has been diagnosed with severe mental disabilities. You have to include people that have committed domestic abuse. See the problem with your 1.2 for EVERY person?
I don't think it is a Conspiracy if there documents, culturally taught. Not say all Americans are against us. That is ok, because I have found if one conspiracy story cannot be believed any more, they will find another. I have seen numerous ones over the years.
@@antifactoid It's an entire culture. Most "conspiracy theorists" have a preconceived conclusion and gravitate toward it with large servings of confirmation bias. Their mindset then leads to sucking in all the other hypotheses and ultimately believing *EVERTHING* is nefarious in some way.
On the occasions when an idea is too ridiculous even for them.... Flat Earth, Mudflood, chemtrails etc etc.... They label it a "psyop", a plant by the "They". That way, they can deny that particular conspiracy theory and at the same time, still have it *BE* a conspiracy.
It's a level of circular thinking that any religion would be proud of!

It does not matter to these individuals that these hypotheses do not survive logical investigation. They have already decided on their conclusions and will not be deviated from them by rational thought. They actually gain comfort from their beliefs because it gives them a sense of control over their own lives that they otherwise don't feel that they have.

The gun statistic is misleading - 120 guns per 100 people is 1.2 guns per person which sounds a lot lower and far less dramatic doesn’t it?
No. It sounds horrendous. That's in the region of 400,000,000 guns.
@@moggpiano8043 sounds like we need more =D
It sounds exactly the same. If you want your facts couched in a way that you find more palatable it doesn't change the facts. You took the time to do the math and you are comfortable with it. The statistic only demonstrates the amount of guns. Your version assumes there is barely more than one gun per person. Counting every person, you have to include a lot of people under the age of 10. You have to include every person currently in prison. You have to include every person that has been diagnosed with severe mental disabilities. You have to include people that have committed domestic abuse. See the problem with your 1.2 for EVERY person?
