The main problem against the draft conspiracies is that you don't know how good they're actually going to be once they get into the professional league and not only that if they want a particular player to go to a particular team they can do that. Dan Marino went 27th, Aaron Rodgers went in the 20's as well. Did they know how good Tom Brady would be?
That doesn't matter though because those players performed terribly at the combine. So on paper the athlete coming out of high school(at the time) or college who's expected to go first gets superstardom and the team he goes to immediately gets a boost in rankings and more national televised games.
None of these examples include the NFL draft. Every once in a while comes a player that’s unanimously considered a generational talent, and those players can impact basketball and hockey teams significantly

And I've always thought it was a bit suspicious when Michael went back to the Bulls. When he left my Dad couldn't wrap his head around why the hell someone would give up the massive amount of money from sponsorships and contracts just to go play Minor League and STILL have every moment of your life broadcasted to the world. Half the NHL teams fanbases think the refs are rigging games against them.. reality is hockey is just so fast a sport it's super easy for the refs to miss stuff and often when they realize they made a bad call or missed one.. they'll make a questionable call later in the game in favor of the team that got screwed the first time to make up for it
I remember seeing a Theory saying that the holding call at the end of super bowl 57 was scripted and that the Chiefs was supposed to win that game as seen in the "scripts"

I still think the Pens one could be real. Savior Mario tanked on purpose and threatened to move the team to Kansas City, which had an arena ready to go. Rigging the lottery off-camera requires to special manipulation of game play.
Pens were trash from 02-04 and drafted 2nd overall to get Malkin behind Ovechkin in 2004.2004 was the NHL lockout so they used the previous year's records to determine draft odds. Nothing too crazy there. Moving the team to Kansas City was a publicity stunt to get a new arena in the city of Pittsburgh. In the years prior, both the Steelers(NFL) and Pirates (MLB) had new arenas built. The pens were playing in the Mellon arena, built in 1967.

Yes, he demanded a new arena, but there is no reason to believe his threats to relocate were a bluff if he didn’t get one. The fact that other Pittsburgh teams got them is irrelevant. The lottery during the lockout year was a convenient opportunity for the league to put their finger on the scale to benefit the Penguins, starting with deciding to use the previous season’s records to weight the odds (rather than giving all teams equal odds since no season had actually been played, and the Pens had already been rewarded for their 2003-4 tank job). The league’s actions in the early Crosby years just back up the assertion that they had an interest in seeing their face of the league succeed and were willing to take action to push things in that direction.
So there was this old man once who told me a Theory about the "Lack of Talent" in MTL Habs when I was young. He basically told that because the CH won the stanley cup a lot in the past (for those who dont know much about hockey, Up to '93 Mtl Canadien winning the Stanley cup was an extremely recurent thing) the NHL Decided to rig the cup and the whole game so CH stop dominating the Series and therefore make the HABS being bad.
I really dont know if that oldman was just a old fan creating bs conspiracy rather than coping with the fact that our Golden age is over or if was just trying to be funny to 8 yo me but I must admit... That is one crazy story

I don't buy the Knicks winning the lottery. For one thing...they didn't follow it up with a championship. One would think that if the NBA was going to rig the lottery; they would rig the ensuing season(s) so the Knicks would win a championship. That would be easier to rig than a lottery.
