    Hey Martin, maybe you should update this video yearly (at year’s end, like around now ;-) and select the best for each class: pro, hobby and casual users (and maybe others like electronics vs electric, etc). Also you could tell us your current setup for the past year and the rational for choosing them. Keep up the great videos!

    Thanks for the feedback. Most multimeters do millivolts but microvolts is another story...you need to look at the spec / data sheet of the multimeter to see what resolution it goes to. Cheers, Martin.

    I would love to see a new round of hi-end handheld DMMs reviews for 2021! A lot of your reviews are from 2011...I bet you have great ideas on how to do it all over again. We don't always get a 2nd chance. 😉 Shall we call it "Revisted - 10 Years Later"? Maybe review the hi-end offerings from each country per video?
    German, French, Taiwanese, Japanese, Malaysian, American - other manufacturers.

    I enjoy your video, I got alot from it besides the bare basics that I already knew. I recently bought a Etek 10709, I know its not a high tech one but for what i use it for, its great for me. I will be looking into getting better leads too.

    I am about to embark on the fantastic journey thorough your "Multimeter reviews" playlist, almost finished with this the first and are enjoying every second!
    My initial standpoint is that maybe the Fluke is fantastic, but I find it inconceivable to pay the same for a multimeter, as for an oscilloscope!
    Maybe I am wiser afterward. :-)

    In my time installing remote car starters i started with a used Bluepoint DMM. It was good for a while but as i found after a year that testing resistance was very inaccurate, i soon bought a Fluke 287 and it was night and day. by far the best DMM in the vid, the only downside is 6AA batteries. They really need to make a removable rechargeable battery.

  • @mjlorton
    @mjlorton  Před 12 lety

    @kirimikium Yes, a simple cheaper multimeter can certainly meet most needs if you don't require it for specific electronic / electrical work where it may have some limitations. There are several well priced multimeters that I have reviewed on my channel that you may want to take a look at. Cheers,
    Martin.

    Good video but I got lost with the counts
    for example, seems like 6000 counts displayed on the Fluke as long as it was in the 6V range, but when you step out of that into the next higher range 60V it became more like a 600 count on the display?

    I'm skint, so low cost stuff....
    I have a generic old mini meter that is still available new, for less than 3 quid delivered. It is only 0.02 Volts different to my Fluke 77.
    Build quality is good enough to withstand a 3 foot drop.
    Not bad.
    The fuse issue is resolved easily, if less neatly, by simply using an in line fuse holder. I wouldn't be put off at the omission of a fuse.

    Hello, I am trying to get help about purchasing my first real (safe) multimeter. I have had a number of cheapies, but after a near accident with an unused ones I've decided to purchase a quality one. Which Fluke one would best be suited for working with up to 220v mains and for checking things like start capacitors and home electrical needs, plus I want to learn how to diagnose and work on PCB boards, and computer type circuitry. I see so many Fluke models that it's rather confusing. I see most knowledgeable persons like yourself using the 87v, but I've also seen the 179, and 200 series. I don't mind spending the money on a lifetime warranty product that I will have forever. Your thoughts please.

    Love my 115. Had dozens of cheap ones. Fluke's take a drop and maintain accuracy longer. I have burned my other ones when I got careless and my fluke has endured my careless-ness.

    Since it is never used, it likely lives in the bottom of a drawer.
    What you have to remember is that where a good multimeter differs from a cheap bad one is when you do something you are not supposed to do.
    Measure amps short circuit on mains with a cheap multimeter and you will blow your hand off. Do it with an expensive and you just blow a fuse.

  • @andygaras
    @andygaras Před 12 lety

    You have entirely missed the distinction between accuracy and reality. Having ignored the difference between analog and digital. I would like to see you investigate something like the Simpson 360. It does not log anything. But it does give you a real time view.
    Your section on leads also ignored a Great Fluke product. The Insulating percing
    leads.

    Multimeter test lead + HOLD switch together (push button surface test lead, button with own cable, modified connector to multimeter) is cheapest handy solution (to solve the problem HOLD button). Why China will not do this kind of shit (everything else they do)?
