  • In the spring of 1997, ESPN's Curry Kirkpatrick detailed the obvious frictions within the Chicago Bulls, specifically surrounding general manager Jerry Krause. Kirkpatrick sat down with coach Phil Jackson, Steve Kerr, Michael Jordan and more. Just two months later, the Bulls went on to win their fifth title.

      One of the very, very few wise comments on these Last Dance videos. No surprise at how accurate it is, too. Steve was one of the smartest guys on that team, however he was wrong about Pippen. Bitching and moaning to the press and then holding off on surgery to make things harder on your teammates and coaches was not the right move. At that point, he should have known better that management wasn't going to pay him what he wanted.

      Because the truth is that Reinsdorf broke up the team (not Krause) because of the looming lockout. He instead took the $30 million MJ demanded, the $12 million Phil wanted and built the White Sox (Reinsdorf's other team) into a World Series Champion. It's all really simple. It's easy to blame Krause... he's dead. Krause didn't break up a 6 time Championship team without the Owner's approval.

    • @nicksetzer4563
      @nicksetzer4563 Před 3 lety

      Also, it’s tough to win right after you were a dynasty in general. Few teams can just arise as greats for long periods of time. Even the lakers and Celtics have down years, which means the bulls aren’t impervious to those potential failures either.

  • @gunmuratilban8667
    @gunmuratilban8667 Před 4 lety +10

    There's no denying Krause's scouting and team building capabilities. He made a great trade to get Scottie, picked Kukoc from the second round, signed Rodman and he was the man to bring then inexperienced Phil Jackson as the coach. His decisions helped turn the Bulls into one of the most popular teams in sports. Also let's not forget, he was close to trading for T-Mac too.
    I definitely agree he was a big part of how things got messed up. No matter what went through between him and Jackson, you can't just fire a then 5 time champion coach coming out of a two-peat. Again, he deserves every bit of credit of that legendary Bulls team; but that didn't give him the right to tear everything apart.

    So Mr. Krause, since your ( Serious Note - Unfortunate Passing ), how have the Bulls looked since your claim of wanting to do it without MJ?
    Could you have imagined he and Scottie staying and tutoring guys like Ben Gordon, Jay Williams and Derrick Rose?
    The Bulls could have been contenders throughout the 2000's and even though the champs were aging the younger talent could have come in and been shown the ropes by the "Best", and that would have paid HUGE Dividends for the Organization and them individually.
    Why wasn't that ever thought of?
    It's because a certain GM wanted to prove he could do it ALL ON HIS OWN!
    Sad part is he would have eventually gotten his accolades if he would have been more of a team player when it came to personel and the, then Elder Statesmen.
    If that run continued throughout the late 90's - the 2000's and JK would have found a way to mend fences with Phil, MJ, and Scottie, he would have been cemented with them having 30 years of success!
    There's no way anyone could deny and not acknowledge him for those type accomplishments and Phil, MJ and Scottie would have recognized him because he did basically put the first roster together to start it all...
    The Bulls could have continued to run the Eastern Conference, but as always, here in the U.S. in particular, egos, jealousy, envy, and greed always find a way to supercede over everything else.
    Sad, really Sad.....

    The irony is that while most people hate him, there would be no dynasty without Jerry Krause. The sad thing is the dude could have been one of the most admired figures in sports history if it weren't for his petty ego. The Bulls would have won 7-8 championships imo if he kept the team together. But he let his obsession of trying to prove he can build another dynasty from scratch without MJ, Phil and Scottie ruin him. He took a huge bet on himself and lost big. He could have let the dynasty naturally run its course, and then instead of blowing the team up completely and starting from scratch, he could have gradually made moves as the dynasty Bulls aged, and doing so would have actually allowed the Bulls to have long-term success even after MJ retired. I'm not saying championship level teams necessarily, but at the very least competitive playoff teams on a consistent basis. Instead, Bulls fans got Brent Berry, Fred Hoiberg, Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry years after the dynasty was blown up in 98. Absolutely atrocious Bulls teams since 98 except for the Rose years (and Gordon, Hinrich, Deng, Nocioni years to an extent).
    Sad it was a stubborn ego that robbed the world of seeing the GOAT play out the last 2 years of his prime, and potentially win 1-2 more championships, as well as being the main reason the Bulls became a laughingstock of the NBA after 98. Oh well...

If he started rebuilding with the help of Phil and MJ he might had a couple more rings , on the other hand if he failed he will also be critisized so hard ...
