As a sisters fan, I do you actually like the concept of sisters being able to fall to chaos, but I like it being a very rare event. So like at most it being a single squad in a chaos army however, the reason I like it is because I like the looming rare threat of turning to chaos. I like that it is a possibility. I like that threat being there it gives character and it gives motivation to remain resolved. I think the iconoclast story is very indicative of that and is a great showcase as to how a corrupted sister confused as a great antagonist but still allow for there to be great faith amongst the sisters, and if it’s rare, then I feel like it doesn’t deter their faith

The Words Bears in the book apocalypse said they would be many times stronger than any other Chaos warband if they just have a handful of SoB on their sides. And the book storm of iron further demonstrated that. It wasn't even a sister, just a guardsman getting captured by the Iron Warriors and a warsmith turned her into his personal slave to taunt her for daring to stand up against him, guess the warsmith was marinating her anger too much because she eventually turned into an avatar of Khorn and killed him.

You are always reminded of a constant scratching sound while they are in their seperate cells. At the end it turns out yes one of them was corrupted by slaanesh. So the torture with her lasted the longest and the other sisters thought she was being strong and pious when I fact she was enjoying it. And the scratching noise? That was her scratching the walls of her cell so they were perfectly smooth.

In my opinion, a sister falling to chaos should be treated as an absurdly rare exception that proves the rule of how generally devout the sororitas are. If chaos sisters were to be implemented into the table-top (which I hope they do some day), it should be in the form of named character units. Like, imagine how sick it would be to have a Mirael Sabathel figure as the head of a Slaanesh cult army.

I think no one is really immune to corruption or temptation. But I think the fact that it is possible, no matter how remote of a chance it is, makes the SoB that don't fall to Chaos all the more impressive. Just being immune to chaos corruption means that they don't really have to fear it or fight against it. But when we see that it is possible for them to fall, it means the faith and willpower of those that resist that temptation are just that much stronger. It's like the astartes and not being able to feel fear. You can't truly say a space marine is brave because bravery is not the lack of fear, its the ability to overcome that fear and do what needs to be done. Yes, whether or not astartes feeling the actual emotion of fear has been removed, retconned, and changed so often it's hard to say for sure exactly what "know no fear" actually means, but it's a given that astartes do not break from fear or let it influence their actions, most of the time.
TLDR immunity to chaos corruption is boring, but feeling it and overcoming it is much more impressive.

Miriel Sabathiel is older than Abnett's story. She dates back to the 1st 40k CCG, which was released in 2001. Though her card was in one of the expansions, so I think she debuted in 2002. Abnett's story is from 2006.

So you could say, have your Chaos Daemons lead by a small handful of named Chaos Sister units instead of Belakor or some Greater Daemons. The only thing needed to become a sister repentia is to fail in your duty. This does not even need to be objective failure. If you fought a battle which could not be won but somehow survived it, you could consider yourself 'failing' as you did not die for your cause. I think the idea of corruptible sisters is not only acceptable but even important in the lore. It should be very uncommon and it should be treated as unthinkable and unforgivable by the order, obviously, but the idea of the sisters being invincible to corruption makes them unrelatable and unappealing, because it is obvious that their order demands superhuman levels of discipline, devotion and sacrifice. It follows that a sister, being only human, would fall from time to time, and that the order would suppress that knowledge for the sake of their ideals. But it is the fragile nature of their humanity, coupled with the strength of their faith, resolve, and the obvious power of those that never falter, manifesting the emperor's will in the form of incredible feats of combat and actual miracles on the battlefield, that will always make them a beacon of hope for the imperium, despite the fact that some may occasionally lose their battle against the horrors they willingly face.

Extreme repression and living under the strict rules and authority of the Ecclesiarchy make hedonism (slaanesh) and ambition/independence/rule breaking ( Tzeentch) the two likely domains of chaos that they would find enticing.

However, I feel like it should be more of an uncommon occurrence, like one or a handful out of a thousand sisters or something of the like. I do agree that the image of the Sister of Battle being incorruptible is a big chunk of their image and part of their allure as a faction, the idea of these relatively normal mortal women being able to resist corruption where even the Astartes falter. But as we all should know by now, there are very few absolutes in this setting.

If the Word Bearers turned to chaos, so can the Sisters. The Chaos Gods are historically good at turning zealotry for the emperor into zealotry for themselves. The Zealot in Darktide is a good example of this ("Blood for the Emperor, Skulls for the Golden Throne!"). I think one of the key ingredients for a Convent turning traitor is prolonged isolation from the rest of the Imperium. Without external correction from the Ecclesiarchy they could quite easily drift into chaos worship over a few generations, particularly if the world they are on already has a tainted presence, all the while genuinely believing that they are still righteous servants of the Emperor and that everyone else is wrong. With the galaxy split in half and a lot of worlds cut off it is quite feasible that we could see more traitor sisters, i think it can make for good stories.

  • @ceejno7861

I figure, generally, that it is possible to defy corruption by sheer force of will, IF you can keep your faith strong enough. And while most Sisters' faith is strong enough, some do fall short - because nobody is perfect, especially in 40k. A lot of things can happen to them in this case, from failing in battle to attempted desertion. But occasionally, circumstances align so that they fall to Chaos instead. This doesn't happen often, but probably more often than we think, because there is no WAY the Ecclesiarchy doesn't clap a lid over that shit.
This is just how I prefer to think of it. Because like you, I admire the Sisters, and I find their uncorruptible faith utterly badass. But another thing I really like in this setting is how many cracks are in it, how close the whole mess is to falling completely. The hypocrisy, the sheer weight of lies the Imperium is crumbling under. And it makes sense to me that some of those cracks contain fallen Sisters. It makes sense that there would be SOME, because a system this bad can't help but produce side effects.

Khorne has the classic battle lust while Slaanesh could go use a similar approach to Fulgrim in terms of perfectionism and pain/pleasure vibes. Nurgle is well, basically happy nihilism so I imagine any Sister of Battle who suffers enough self-esteem issues will be approached by the squishy green one. Tzeentch is least likely because he seems to have the least things to offer to the Sisters of Battle, at least those ordained for combat. At the risk of sounding heretical, I really like the design of that Sister of Tzeentch in the thumbnail. The subtle gradient in the hair, the tiny parting of the lips into a small almost-playful smile, the piercing eyes looking straight into your soul thru the screen, it’s all very well done in making the final design look equal parts beautiful & menacing & enticing & intimidating.
(Plus I think it’s part of a pair, with the other Sister looking more “saintly” as you would expect from a loyal Imperial Sister. So the contrast adds even more to the aesthetic appeal.)

    Nah, Chaos Sisters are Goated!
A story revolving around a Sisterhood of Tzneetch worshipers that have infiltrated the depths of the Imperium foreshadowing Abaddons next Black Crusade, would be awesome.
& I personally want an Army of Sisters of the Bloodied Skull - which would just be Repentia's but more Blood and Skulls lol

Working on a Chaos Sister army. My internal debate was weather to focus on one chaos god or diversify...i think your video has convinced me of the later.
Genestealer Cults are my favorite lore wise...the 3rd story is so wild! I can imagine folks making a homebrew killteam of chaos cultists usung GSC bits.

Honestly, chaos sisters would just be like the fallen. A cool side unit for the chaos codex you could put a mark of chaos on and be done with it.

An entire convent of sisters fell to Varan the invinsible in Cain's last stand. Chaos corrupted psycher mind controls them. They do off themselves after exposure to a blank, but they were serving chaos for a while.

I was thinking lately about of "Order of Leviathan" with white and purple armors and adding some claws, skulls and pieces of armor from Tyranids (just like one of the marines from Leviathan box - I dont remember the name)

Chaos sisters seem like a good idea for a kill team set up
