Fresh pumpkin is the best but people don't want to go through the trouble of making it. Use a commercial box cake mix. It's so common here.

Could you layer the ingredients in reverse except butter so you don't have to take it out of the pan to frost it?
As a matter of fact, we're making it right now and will make it for Thanksgiving. Do not change the formula, you won't have a nice crust.
