As I commented before, my Boston Star lived to be 17 almost 18 (I know that is extremely old for a Boston) and passed away last year. I think one important thing to watch for also is mental decline. We started to notice that with Star a few years before she died. She started pacing the house at night and it was very difficult. Her personality started to change a little. She stopped doing things she used to do like playing with her toys and so on. She started having difficulty walking on our hardwood floors and would slide out sometimes. She also started having quite a few medical issues and did develop cancer before she passed away. She was always under full medical care with her vet though. Though she did lose her hearing, she never lost her vision and her eyes were clear right up until she died. Her heart too was always totally healthy and strong too, right till the end. We sure miss her....

Wow, 17 years! Thats awesome! My boston is currently 13 years old. Can you give me any advice? Did you brush her teeth frequently? What kind of food did you feed her? Congrats on giving your boston such an amazing long life! They are such wonderful dogs! 🥰

@@str6432 Hi. We adopted Star when she was 7 months old. The family who we adopted her from fed her the Science Diet, so we continued feeding her that up until closer to the end of her life as she had some stomach issues, then she ate prescription dog food prescribed from the vet. We rarely gave her any human food except for an occasional treat of low fat meat. Her favorite was turkey, she loved it! Yes, it is important to brush their teeth, but my oh my, Star hated it and it was quite a struggle for us to do it. We would walk her, but only to the point to where her health could handle it. We had to stop when she just got too elderly. She was such an incredible dog and we miss her terribly! Boston's are so wonderful. What a gift she was.....

My Boston turned 10 in March. Most people that meet my sweetheart have no idea how old he is. Once I tell them he is 10 they are shocked. I take extra extra extra good care of my love. I’m very cautious about what he eats. He goes for several walks a day, as he loves to be outside. He loves to look for the groundhogs around my neighborhood (no worries my mom and I don’t let him get close). He does have some medical issues but they are managed and he is able to live happy and healthy with them (Thank you Lord🙏🏽), as long as I do my part as his mommy. He is my priority and I love him so so so so so so so..much. I always tell him how much I love him and how he’s my good boy❤️. I promised him I would never leave him and when I asked if he promised me the same he licked my face❤️.

Our Boston turned 10 this year. The best advice is brush there teeth,Daisey has only 4 teeth left and her last vet bill was almost $4k to remove the last half of her teeth four years before that was around $3-4K her first teeth operation. Now she eats boiled rice mixed with wet dog food twice a day.#2 is most definitely a harness and a good jacket for cold weather.

Love the videos, I have a 7 year old boston with grey around his muff but boy oh boy if you saw him running around you'd have no clue that he was getting along in years. Still backflips, swims like a fish and barks constantly during play. I religiously take him to the park everyday i dont have a choice he looks so sad if I dont.

Mine was almost 12 and still did zoomies, chased the ball, normal diet, played with kids, etc.
People would say what is she? Six? Maybe seven? I would say about to be twelve. They would say are you serious?!?!
She only had a little gray around the eyes and one eye had a cataract. I credit the fact that she had a very stress free life. Always good food, lived inside, warm blankets, and just free roam around the house and outside as she pleased.
Sometimes would catch her sleeping on the back swing at midnight on a nice night.
Unfortunately, she developed a condition that caused her to suffer and we couldn't let her live like that. We miss her so so much!
We just got a new 8 week old Boston Terrier two days ago. It will be fun teaching her and watching her grow. She is so funny when she trots around. She is still afraid to leave the living room 😂.

I just lost my Boston yesterday of 14 yrs.. his name was buddie.. he was blind and totally caught us off guard. He wasn’t in the best health but was cared for. He came down after we got up in the morning , we did his normal routine and let him out to pee.. I turned to make some drink , looked outside in the yard and he was gone in a ball in the grass like he was sleeping. This happened all in about 2 to 3 minutes. So confused as to what happened and completely heartbroken 💔

Had a Boston for 11 years. He died and we adopted another Boston who was 9 years old. Fees and vet bills was about $400. After 2 months we are returning him to the previous owner. We never considered they could be so different from others in the breed. He wants nothing to do with humans and three times he has nipped us when we try to put him in our lap to give massages. He is a beautiful specimen but in his own world. His history was 6 years with original owner and was taken by daughter when mother died for 3 years. Decided to give back as we are unable to bond with him. Daughter told us we called to discuss returning that she had the same experience.

My wife and I just recently had our MOST wonderful Boxer of 13 years pass away...:>( We were looking for 'Daisy's' replacement as we love our family pets and thought that a Boston Terrier was an excellent replacement since we are seniors our selves... You and your Veternarian's advice is wonderful and we will again 'bookmark' her and your wonderful advice to help us out with our recent 'adoption' of our 'NEW' baby Boston Terrier!!! Since she is a newborn, we won't be able to pick her up until Aug 11, but we are looking forward to that and preparing for her in advance. Thanks sooo much for all you do and we'll continue to watch and add our comments on your wonderful CZcams channel!!!

Mine is Jackson too and will be 13 in April! He was diagnosed with cancer last year and was put on a chronic steroid. That really seemed to age him a lot more 🙁. I think mostly bc he gained weight and it’s a lot harder on his muscles and joints. He never took to brushing either lol

@@jamiehopkins6900 // We had a testicular cancer issue last year as well. (He was unneutered.) Since then it's taken a real effort to keep his weight down. They're such dense little dogs that that extra weight can really do a number on their joints. Good luck to you and Jackson! 😉

My dog is 16 and 1/2, he has arthritis and every now and then I give him tramadol (human tramadol because that's all I have), every now and then due to arthritis. I noticed his gums started bleeding 2 years ago when chewing so he stopped chewing as much. I started brushing the dogs teeth when he was a baby, so the dog is accustomed to it. What tipped me off that he developed arthritis was he would start whimpering and crying when just sitting around. Also, he would try to get into my lap and whine or whimper. Then, rolling on the floor over and over for no reason at all. We did switch to soft food and the dog adapted by himself so we started giving him canned food. Thank God no limping so far, but little groans let's me know when he is hurting. We still walk him 3 times a day and he has to pee more often, if need be, you can switch to a puppy toothbrush which is softer. No gum disease so far but his eyes are getting cataracts and he is losing his hearing. However, he is still spritely and will chew softer rawhide like pig ears. Sometimes if pain is too strong in winter time, we give him a little benadryl and tramadol inside a ball of peanut butter and that helps a lot.
