I love how “The Nanny” was never afraid to include gay characters, and not just as jokes! The gag isn’t that Harvey was married to a man; it’s the similarity between him and Fran that makes us laugh. Like “The Golden Girls,”
this show was very forward thinking, and as a young gay teenager watching both programs on “Lifetime,” I always felt at home with the Girls and Fran! :)

I think bc one of the producers is her ex-husband who is gay. They remained great friends after they divorced and made the show together. she’s always been a gay icon bc of not only her fashion but the way she depicted gay people on the show.

It must one of a very few times in the 90's when homosexuality was portrayed as normal to the point Fran even feels jealous of the romantic bonds between Harvey and his partner.

@@LisaKoffler That's what I mean, I don't remember it ever being mentioned in any of the episodes I've seen. The closest I remember is the joke when Fran thought someone died, and Val said "It's Danny-" and Fran said "Oh well when you gotta go you gotta go" and Val clarified "He didn't die, he's getting married" and Fran fell to her knees and cried out dramatically.
I also remember when Danny's baby was born! Her picture wasn't shown, but she was mistaken for a dog because of all that hair!

The show made a huge mistake though, at some point Danny and his wife send out cards after their baby daughter is born and the joke is that everyone mistakes it for a boy or even a monkey I think but after that when he dies we don't see a child or baby anywhere plus it is never spoken of again
It's hardly a mistake. Danny was only mentioned when it's relevant to Fran's story. He was a side character at best. What happened in his life wasn't important enough to show, beyond that.
If we want to make up a Watsonian explanation, we could say he faked his death for some reason and wacky sitcom shenanigans ensue until he is found out.
They did mention that Danny and Heather had a baby, but didn't show the picture. The funniest part was that the baby was mistaken for a dog because of all that hair!
