- Polling shows that President Joe Biden has a negligible lead over former President Donald Trump when it comes to job creation, infrastructure and the economy.
Three months ago, as the presidential primaries were getting underway, President Joe Biden was trailing former President Donald Trump in the polls nationally and in battleground states, and concerns about his age were coming to the fore. The optimistic view for Biden was that once the presidential primaries were over, and it became clear that the choice was a 2020 rematch, the polls would move in his direction. But the polls have changed little. In fact, a new set of battleground polls from The New York Times/Siena College shows Biden trailing in all but one of the battleground states, with a lead for Trump as high as 12 points in Nevada.
In this installment of the 538 Politics podcast, the crew asks why the end of the primaries, weeks of Biden campaigning and millions spent on advertising have changed the polls little. They also preview Tuesday's primaries in Maryland and West Virginia, in particular a very competitive Democratic Senate primary in Maryland.

Remember when 538 was run by Nate Silver and he had this sick website that was easy to navigate, colorful with unique cartoony designs, and presented the things right in front of you? Remember when they had this CZcams channel where they released hour long videos every once in while, when Nate felt there was something to talk about?
Remember when he sold 538 to CMS or CVS or whatever their name is, then retired to an island? Remember when CNN terminated the 538 website and converted it into a tab on their website, while drastically changing the 538 layout by turning it into corpo-trash; redesigned specifically to drive traffic to their shitty dying website that no one under 40 cares about - "3 shot dead in city", "are your kids really safe?", "this thing will give you cancer". Oh no, I better click to find out!
Remember when they started cutting up hour long videos into 3 min sections to boost CZcams add revenue, but I'm not seeing your Tide commercials because I know how to use addblock?
You guys remember that?
God I hate these people.
How about the shrinkflation on these uploads vs. the full video podcasts of before? 👀
Bring the podcasts back to CZcams! I guess I am no longer a loyal listener.
Imagine getting mad at companies for giving you less product for your money because the money is worth less due to the fact that you printed more money in the last five years than in the previous forty.
uggh these clips are not it
what about watching the podcast? no more watching?
1:01 i mean this fact is easily explainable. it's not rose colored glasses. you shouldn't be comparing his approval on the economy right before the election to now. you should look at 2019 (if there even is any data) or not compare it at all. you have to remember the 2020 election was just half a year into the covid out break. the economy was in a really bad shape due to covid (which was 100% out of trumps control, lock downs and other stuff had to happen). So obviously when people were in the middle of all this they would blame Trump and say his economy was bad due to recency bias. However that's 4 years ago. So number 1, they got to see that nothing changed under biden as it regards to covid so they no longer think of that as exclusively a Trump thing. And 2, since it has been 4 years it will be easier for people to look at Trumps presidency as a whole and not think of those few months he had of his term during covid. I mean isn't this really obvious guys? Like it is so obvious that if you take a poll of Trumps economy during an economic crisis it will be bad, but give people time to look at the presidency as a whole and it will give a more representative view. Especially since they now know for a fact that the alternative (Biden) didn't do a better job on covid even though he became president around the time the pandemic began to slow down and we got vaccines.
Can you explain why your polls doesn't reflect that in every primary Trump keep losing around 20% of republican voters?
Exactly!
they do though? you can check the republican primary polls on literally 538 and see he is polling at around 80%. where did you get the idea that the polls are not reflecting it? instead of writing a comment that 538 won't respond to you could've just checked the literal fucking polls for the republican primaries... 🤦♂
this is ABC's fault
I guess they're owned by Disney, so it's Disney's fault. Guys!! why did u have to sell 538?
Biden = Jimmy Carter 2.0

It's not just inflation, it's also conservative media. Radio news and fox news and Trump social media.
It’s not inflation, it’s corporations Overcharging, for goods and services. Greed, corporate greed. Check out the percentage increase, in product costs, vs. a few years ago. 🇺🇸💙
What is “overcharging” exactly?
Why weren't they "overcharging" during the Trump years then, and why is Biden allowing it during his own term? 🤔
you're lost completely lost liberal
