  • The White Pass and Yukon Route Railway is a popular attraction for cruise guests visiting Skagway, Alaska. Completed in 1900, the railroad was the primary means of transportation for prospectors travelling over the White Pass to the goldfields in the Yukon.
    The “White Pass Summit Excursion” allows guests to ride in vintage-style passenger cars along the same route as gold prospectors of the past while seeing spectacular views, gold rush points of interest, and more. The narrated tour takes about two-and-a-half hours as the train travels forty miles round-trip to the White Pass summit at 2,888 feet in elevation.

    Great video, we're doing the 8hrs which includes a bus trip back along the Klondike Highway for a more rounded view of this awesome country.

    This looks like an excellent excursion, I'm going to do this excursion next year on my Alaskan cruise. Thanks for doing this video and helping me settle on what to do on my cruise.

    Do you know what I think should happen. Their should be a major extension to the White Pass and Yukon railway. It will go farther than Yukon and go down to the Rocky Mountains. It will be called the White Pass, Yukon Rocky railway and their will be a sector of track that can go over standard gauge track. At mile 18.6, the Trestle bridge should be rebuilt so that their will be two ways for the train to go for more variety.

    As of September 2022, the train only go as far as the Alaska, BC, and Yukon flags, before turning around due to COVID restrictions

    Excellent presentation. Not many videos of inside the cars. And the point-by-point highlights are great. Was supposed to go to Alaska in 2020 on Regent, now trying next year on Norwegian 🤞🏻

    Love your videos! Question though, do you need to bring your passport on the train ride since it goes in and out of Canada?

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před 2 lety +1

      If you're doing the train experience that *does not* stop, transfer to a bus, etc. (what we show in the video), then you *do not* need to bring your passport.

    I see some excursions are 3 hours and some are 8 hours, are they different trains?

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před 4 lety

      The primary excursion is the White Pass Summit tour, which is 2.5 - 3 hours total and takes you to the summit and back with diesel engines.
      The other excursions are 1) Bennett Scenic Journey (8 hours) which combines a MUCH longer train ride to Yukon Territory and a motorcoach tour along the Klondike Higway, and 2) Fraser Meadows Steam (3.5 - 4 hours) which is a steam engine tour that goes 6 miles past the summit.

    How does the train turn around. Is there a big loop

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it does a loop at the top/end and returns on the same tracks.

    I've been thinking about doing this excursion in May 2020....but not sure if it will be unique enough.
    We have been to the Rocky Mountains National Park over 30 times since it's only 2 hours away from our house in Cheyenne Wyoming, and have done train rides at Georgetown Colorado.
    This train ride looks impressive .....but I'm afraid that it will feel as if I was still at RMNP.

      What you see in the video is a lot of what you'll see on the train ride. Of course, it feels MUCH different in person, but you may want to check other excursions in Skagway to see if there's something else that seems more interesting.

      If you ever get to Skagway and want to do something unique the train does a stop where you can get off and hike to a glacier. I’ve lived in Skagway for a few years and I highly recommend this. You can book it through the train and hike on your own or you can book through a tour company and they take care of everything such as booking the train tickets and gear for the glacier. It’s called the Laughton Glacier if you’re interested.

    Excellent video! Thank you! We’re planning on booking it through the railway directly because it’s way more cost effective and I believe you did the same. My question is: is the walk from the port terminal to the train depot doable even with cold and possible rain? Or should we still get transportation? We’re a pretty active family so walking isn’t an issue for us, but we were just wondering. Thank you!

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před rokem

      Yes, we booked directly through the railway and the walk is definitely doable for an active family. Even from the most distant dock, it's only about a 15-20 minute walk. It's closer to 10 minutes for the closer docks.

    Is this the scienc railway excursion?

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před 2 lety

      Yes, this experience is often listed as a scenic railway excursion. There are some different variations of the experience, so make sure you read the details of your excursion to get the one you want.

    I want to do this in2023 but carnival spirit wants us to do 215.00 where the railroad charges only 130.00

    • @TheJellyBeans
      @TheJellyBeans  Před 2 lety

      Double-check to see if the Carnival excursion is providing anything in addition to the train ticket. If not, you could look into booking the tickets yourself through the railway's website.
