    Hi Cruisers, It's day 6 of our Princess Alaska cruise and we’re in Skagway! We can’t wait to share this with you - we are in for another fantastic day.
    We are hopping aboard the White Pass and Yukon Railway. The White Pass & Yukon Route is something I've always wanted to do, and something I've been looking forward to since we booked this Alaska cruise. If you are going to Skagway, you really have to watch this video so you can see how absolutely beautiful train adventure this is. It is probably one of the most memorable excursions you'll ever take. We've packed this video with tons of footage of this engineering marvel. If the history of this Skagway White Pass railway and the people who work it interest you, you'll want to watch this channel for our up-coming interview video.
    We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Jackie and the terrific staff of the White Pass & Yukon Route for making this a day we will never forget and will always treasure.
    Be sure to check back to watch all of our vlogs. This Skagway vlog, Ketchikan, with all the bears, a crazy day in Juneau and a couple of sea day vlogs are already done. Tea Time in Victoria is coming soon, and of course watch for our follow up episode on the White Pass & Yukon Route.

    Sheri, my mom was short. All her children (I'm the oldest of four), were taller than her, but she didn't take crap from anyone. She used to say to people she'd just met, "I'm going to sue our city." When someone who didn't know her well asked why, she'd say, "For building the sidewalk too close to my butt."

    We took this train in 2014 on the Golden Princess (and the bus from the train up into the Yukon - also worth it, 8 hr. total excursion); I look forward to going again sometime. (We had 2020 Princess Alaska cruise reservations to do it again before the Covid hit.)
    The Alaska Glacier Bay cruise and White Pass excursion are well worth it.

    WOW!!! I can't believe some of the shots you took! I was scared you'd lose your camera at times. The footage here was amazing...I've never wanted to cruise to Alaska (brrr...) but this scenery made me consider it someday. You were literally in the clouds on the train, and I loved the waterfalls and the great long side shot of the train. The ending was my favorite part!

    • @CruiseTipsTV

      +NurseNancy Thank you so much. I think you might enjoy Alaska. It’s not as cold as you would expect. We’ve had excellent success with mod to late May being the warmer of the months there. There’s also a few warm days generally coming and going before you get up to Alaska.

      I've done three cruises to Alaska and 2 of the 3 we experienced heat waves. Temps a year ago August on our Princess cruise out of SFO were in the 90's and no rain. All the weeks leading up I'd been watching and we packed rain gear and we ended up needing sunscreen instead! You never know. The great thing about an Alaskan cruise is that it's so beautiful you just overlook the weather (rainy on one of our trips).. You won't regret going! It's amazing! Kids and I are talking about our 4th trip for this coming summer!!

    Thanks Sheri!! That was great. Brought back so many wonderful memories! My first time in Skagway only one ship arrived each day & pulled up right by where the HAL ship was, by the big, painted rock & at the White Pass Station!! The trip on the train was amazing. I loved standing outside of the last car & seeing the engine when going around those bends - and the incredible scenery!! And then walking thru Skagway - the old gold rush town re-created to look authentic!! Just a few streets - and you saw the whole town (filled with so much history)!! It was great seeing it thru your eyes (and the back of your head at the end of the video)!

      +bonnie bergstein ha ha thanks Bonnie. It is a very special and sweet little town. I do love that big rock with the paintings on it. It’s really cool to imagine the employees climbing up as high as they could to paint their ships symbol on the rock

    We did the White Pass Railroad as well and you are correct, there was LOTS of snow when we went in early May. After watching this I had to go pull our pictures back up and the snow at the summit was almost half the height of the train! It was pretty spectacular. We were one of the first ships out for the season and the only ship in port for all of our stops. Turns out we were there the same year you were!

We've been twice on the Star and Island Princess. Haven't done the train yet. We found some awesome hiking trails last time up. We are going on Alaska cruise and so we pre booked the helicopter ride with dog sledding. We couldn't get the earlier slot and have been booked on the 11.15 tour. Unfortunately this does not give us enough time to take the white pass Yukon Route Rail which leaves around noon. So very disappointing.

    Finally !! I was waiting for this video for so long, I’m going to Alaska in Princess next year with my mom and I’m learning a lot from your videos; I have some questions: 1. would you recommend to head up the white pass better in train or bus? And 2. A completely different subject matter: Me and my mom drink a lot of water (not fans of sugar beverages) is it easy to fill up your water bottle in the ship? Either in the buffet or main dinning room? Or in the ice stations?

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 6 lety

      +Laura A Hey LAURA you must be getting really excited for your cruise. I think that as long as you get to experience the white Pass either going up or down - either the full train experience or the train plus bus experience can be very nice. Yes you can fill up your water bottles in the water filling stations in the buffet area.

Also, you didn't mention the civil engineering landmark of the Golden Gate Bridge, so there are 3 you will have seen this year (I know you had already seen it, but it still counts!). Thanks for the cool video. I got to show my husband what to expect as far as the type of train. :-)

      +Gail Abert excellent points! We got a ride because we actually didn’t take the train that was nearest our ship. I didn’t even think about that! doh!!!

    Hi Cruise Tips TV! I've been an avid watcher since my fiance and I booked our 7 Day Western Caribbean cruise with Carnival (leaving Dec 17). My question is related to dining. I was wondering if the Main Dining Room is open for Lunch? I know the casual lunch dining gets crazy on Dream so I want to make sure we have a back-up place to go if things get too crazy for us, since both of us are pretty sensitive to large crowds. Thank you so much!! I love your content!

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  Před 6 lety

      +Hannah Humphrey thank you so much. Your carnival cruise sounds really fun. Yes the dining room is open for lunch sometimes. On sea days they are also open for sea day brunch - which is really fun. Every ship is a little different and it won’t be open necessarily every day for lunch but you can count on it being there for variety!

      It can be done either way but we suggest you purchase through the cruise line with this one since there are multiple tracks :-)
