Lauren, you should so do audiobooks. You are such a good storyteller and you have a good soothing voice for it. I love your videos.
Alaskan Tourism should definitely hire you to promote the beauty and history of Alaska.
So agreed! They are great tour guides. They really did a great job making these videos.
Agree as well. For first timers, they certainly covered everything and more that we would need or want to know.
I just discovered them. Yes, I agree! You did a great job on this video, I’m anxious to watch your others on the Alaska cruise
I'm not entirely sure of all the places my Finnish great grandfather visited, but he went to Alaska and Yukon during the gold rush as a 15yo with only a note in English in his pocket saying he's hungry and will work for food. He managed to make enough money to return to Finland and open his own carpentry business (AND he won a violin at a raffle!) Thanks to these events I was born, it wasn't very common that people from these parts ever returned to their home countries. I do have tons of other very distant blood relatives all over the US, as of course a lot of people migrated there over a long period. I've always had a fascination for Alaska thanks to this, I really hope to visit one day!! So happy I get to experience a lot of Alaska through your videos 😊
Lauren, I have mentioned before that I am disabled but I need you and Mark and the boys to know that you are an inspiration to me. I am more then determined to push myself in rehab and be able to get up our of this wheel chair so that I too can enjoy an adventure, like your cruise. Thank you for allowing me to share in your cruise adventure. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
Mary, we are honored to be a part of your life. Thank you so much for watching and sharing!
Mary, check out the channel Life On Wheels. It’s a couple, one of whom is in a wheelchair, who cruise all of the time. I use a wheelchair too. I’m traveling to Alaska on Norwegian Encore next year. Don’t give up, you can cruise and travel when you have mobility issues!
This was powerful, knowing what thousands of men endured during the gold rush. It was awesome that you both gave us this perspective. I am impressed by your bike ride. I would of never made it, but I am much older than you. I've enjoyed this series of tours and thank you2 for sharing your hard work and fun times.
You showed us much more of Skagway than I thought there'd be. Laruen, you deserve an electric bike upgrade for your personal use!
The White Pass mountain train ride is a perfectly ordinary, slow train ride that goes up a mountain. Eventually you'll find snow around and about, and then you'll reverse, and go right back down. If you look to one side you'll see motor vehicles zooming up a mountain road, then you'll realize how slow you're really moving. Quite frankly it's not nearly as great as these tourist videos make it sound, and it's quite a time consuming exercise too.
thanks!!
It does take time but we found it to be quite enjoyable. The story of how it was created was quite incredible! A fun way to see the scenery. A van would for sure give you a different perspective.
I think you perhaps mistake your own perspective as a reality shared by everyone. It is not, there are many many people who value and enjoy the experience and are able to accept and celebrate it for what it is. As an Alaskan, I am one of those people. I have driven the road, taken the train and hiked it as well, and I am going back again. Ordinary is not a word I would ever use to describe it. It is unique and it is a part of history, I encourage everyone who visits to decide for themselves rather than let a nay sayer discourage from this unique and historic place.
I am loving this series and watching you guys enjoy Alaska through the tourists eyes. Cruises get a bad rep, ppl assume it’s going to feel like a factory farm animal surrounded by globalized corporations, but cruises know ppl want their space and authenticity and they generally do a good job of providing the perfect balance of privacy and entertainment on the ship, while respecting the local culture and landscape at the ports. We cruised to Alaska in 2010 and it’s amazing to see the amount of small business growth that has developed in these ports over the past decade.
This is not a cruise video, lol this is a great history lesson. Seriously, I love it. I want to go get a book and study a little more about the pass. Fascinating information about the items they had to bring over on the trails. So entertaining.
Didn't realize you were coming to Alaska History 101 today! LOL I was so fascinated by it all, I couldn't NOT share everything!
I made a video to share with all the tourists that have spent 1 day or are going to spend 1 day in Skagway. czcams.com/video/MGFId71pXzM/video.html I’m sure you discovered one day is not enough to really understand Skagway’s rich history and all things to see or do. When I created this video about Skagway I realized I only experienced tiny fraction of its unique history and all the fun/free things to do.
Outstanding in-depth history of Skagway/Dyea and the mountain passes to Yukon Gold Rush of 1887-89 - “as good as any Ken Burns Video
This video is created by someone who spent a day in Skagway and wanted to give everyone a deeper understanding of Skagway’s rich history. Took me about month to create. Enjoy, and thanks for sharing. I make educational videos for fun, non-profit, with over 300 videos. Google: “mike wick minnesota videos”
Hi Lauren! I don't comment often, but wanted to let you and Mark know just how much I am enjoying your cruise videos! In particular, the port visits. An AK cruise has always been on my bucket list and now has moved up the list! Thanks for your great work on putting these together!
We are going on our second cruise to Alaska next summer. I watch a lot of CZcams videos and yours are one of the best!
Wow, thanks!
I think this was your last stop on your Cruise, lm going to be so sad when this video ends because lve enjoyed everyone of these videos, the beautiful scenery, the information both you and Mark narrated perfectly and the joy of being an armchair traveller has been very special. Once again, thanks to both you and Mark 😘
I think Whittier is their last stop.
WOW, what a beautiful State. Omg. God's country.
So beautiful, thank you for taking us along.
When I was in junior high school the school library had an old book that was written as a guidebook for people going to the Yukon for the gold rush. I wish I could find that book, but it was over 50 years ago
I've seen a lot of alaskan cruise vlogs, and I love that you guys did something different like the bike ride! It was very neat to see that history. Love your videos.
Amazing when you look on Google maps Skagway is in the middle of nowhere, amazing to see a town there.
Hello Lauren, me and my wife Maria just finished watching the Skagway video. Let me tell you , we just wanna go back to Alaska on a cruise again. Thank you for such an amazing video, the history of each video was so wonderful for you to share. So educational. Again , thank you for sharing your experience. What a lovely day! I'm so happy the two of you have this time together, so important!!! 💞
It really is! Thanks for watching!
Did Mark realize that wheel he was playing with detach the cars?
If you love trains catch Downie, he was there taking an Alaskan cruise.
Just incredible what men went through to build there and lives were lost in the process.
Beautiful views❤
This brings back memories of lunch up in Lake Bennett, don’t know if they still do that, it was in the mid 1970s, beef stew and apple pie with cheese
Yum!
Thank you for taking me, a lazy tourist, out for a bike ride! That was so much fun to see your experience. Thank you both for presenting the historic information in your videos. I'm learning so much!

This has to be the best video I have seen of Skagway. What an amazing day you had and the weather seemed perfect. I have done the gold rush train to white pass and it was amazing. I am so so jealous of the biking you did. I am putting it on my to do list for my next trip to Alaska. I will check out your other videos.
Wow! So interesting and so much to do! I'll say that train track looked pretty scary. What a great trip!
We are doing a Princess tour/cruise combo next year and watching this was total hype for our trip~We've never been to AK so your video really helped with getting a feel for it.
Good afternoon Lauren and Mark and family and thank you for sharing your beautiful day adventures 😊 🌞
Stumbled across your video and so happy I did - I've been to Alaska 4x and always love seeing others perspective on their trips. So appreciative for your interpretation, relating the history and marrying that with the tourist view...very refreshing and for me makes it ten times more enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the content!
Another great video!! We have been on numerous other cruises as well as Alaska. I agree that the Alaska cruise is the best. We are currently working on booking a group cruise to Alaska for next May. We can’t wait to get back there.

Hi guys, thanks for your cruise videos, good to see Skagway again. I did the trip from Skagway to Seattle on the ferry MV Columbia back in late August 1989 after spending a month in the Yukon and Alaska. The trip took about 4 days. Seeing whales cruising pass the ship, so cool. Our day in Skagway was beautiful weather too, with 3 cruise ships in port and people lined up all day to take helicopter flights out to the glaciers. Saw the northern lights on our first night leaving Skagway, so amazing! You live in a great part of the world cheers.
My cruise starts in 2 days. Thank you for this!
I’ve loved all your cruise videos especially the port ones. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like them! We had a great time exploring Alaska and are so glad to bring all of you along!
Learning so much thank you for sharing💕
These videos are amazing loved them all,ty for sharing
You're so welcome!!
Skagway has beautiful scenery. Loved the train ride, seeing the old bridge. Renting the bikes looked fun. The Goldrush was interesting. Kind of sad too.
Thanks for watching! Yes, a bit sad but I am sure it was a time of much excitement and determination!
Very much enjoyed your telling of the history of Skagway and Dyea as you explored the area. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Love the history
Mark is The Iron Man. E-bike is brilliant. Train in White Pass was magic. Understand your bum, been there. Great touring and exercise for being on a cruise. Hellfire, Skagway now on the list also. I am going to need to move or spend two months in Alaska. Thank you! 🥰
Thank you guys for this tour, makes me want to go now and visit, love all the history, Hugs from NW Georgia.
It was such a great town!
Skagway reminds me of Silverton Colorado and that train ride reminds me of the Durango-Silverton train.
I am absolutely loving this part if your cruise adventure...our cruise will take us to Skagway in 2024. Thank you
That was a fun day.... and thank you for including all the background history for us. Imagine having to carry all those items up that mountain for the gold rush...I'm surprised they even owned all those things that long ago.
At the halfway point on your bike ride, can you imagine all the stars you could see on a dark night? Must be so beautiful.
Also, my sister and I rode a bike on our town's bike trail, seemed like it would be a fun time. Did I mention we had not been on bikes for years? The trail was 18 miles round trip...back before people took water bottles everywhere!! I thought I would die before we arrived back at the trailhead....brutal! We made it back with about 15 minutes to spare, to turn the bikes back in. I was sore for days!
The train ride was so cool, I've never had the pleasure of doing that. Thanks for another fantastic video!! 😁
Thank you for sharing! Going to Alaska on a cruise in August 2024
Wow beautiful thanks.
What an enjoyable video!! Such an amazing experience for you guys. You do such a good job highlighting the sites and giving the history of each port. Well done Lauren and Mark
Thanks! I really enjoyed learning more about Skagway and being there just brought it all to life!
I grew up in Skagway and we would grocery shop at that store, it was nice to see it again!
So beautiful… will have to move Alaska cruise to top of my cruising list. Thank you for sharing the journey.
It is worth it, such a fun adventure!

Hey friends! Cool to see the bike trip you told us about. We took the bus tour this trip.
Interesting to see the food prices. Our bus driver told us that on “special night” a burger is $15 at the place they live during tourist season.
Skagwegian here, glad you enjoyed your tour, was cool to see my town from another point of view
I've really enjoyed your cruise. Thankyou so much for sharing xx
