  • On this episode we are designing and creating the exhausts, or headers. Being a rear mounted motor theres not much length- And only three cylinders its a pretty basic setup. So, to add the 'custom' we split each Exhaust flange into two. Making six individual pipes. A last minute idea to angle each pipe and flare the tip will really create a different design and add another small 'Aircraft' detail! Plus, we hang out with good friend Karl Fisher from Make it Kustom and put him to work!!

    Of all the hot rod channels I reckon you explain your reasoning and how to execute it the best, it also helps that you have a great sense of hot rod styling.

    Hello Jordan. So you’re telling me that Karl traveled all that way and forgot to pack one of those little air chamfer tools. So good to see old friends get together and have fun and games. O and the pipes turned out nice. I like the way you make sure every piece is square so that the fit and finish is much better. You show lots of love( in a manly way) cheers all the best. Tim.

    Or you could slide in some miniature glass packs into the 6 inches of your straight pipe when it comes out. You can make your own Miniature glass packs for each pipe. take a piece of stainless smaller diameter and flange each end of it drill a bunch of holes in it wrap, fiberglass around the outside.

    Nice work again Jordan, and good to see Karl is back again, Aero engines are usually pretty loud and im guessing this one will be too, it will be interesting to see if it eventually passes inspection..... but it looks cool. I am glad you chose metal work instead of singing as your career lol. Cheers Greg

    Don't you try to keep the pipes all the same lenght, especially with this type of engine ? I would also strongly recommend insulating the pipes, at least up to just before the bumper. They run very close to the cylinder heads.
    otherwise brilliant work and thanks for the content. Greets from germany

    @scottyb069 Před 4 měsíci +2

    That exhaust is a bloody work of art, but I see no attempt at mufflerising that lot. If it does turn out to be a bit too vocal for the locals could you possibly squeeze a 4 say inch common collector with baffles along the whole 6 pipes, so instead of each of the 6 pipes going straight out, they go into the side of the 4 inch then out the other side, via a baffle. Or maybe the cops don't care in WA so straight pipes it is.

    Jordan instead of having them out the back I think three out each side behind the back wheels on an angle
    That would be more of an airplane thing
    Just my thinking, your doing great 👍
    Do you think the lower pipes went to the opposite side to try and keep all the pipes the same length as the two top pipes
    Tuned length maybe

  • @danross344

    I think you are so skilled and that exhaust is so beautiful. It’s artistry at its best. How are you going to heat the Volkswagen? Could you just put a fan sucking air right out of the engine compartment maybe it’s gonna be pretty hot with all the exhaust in there?

    @wrstew1272 Před 4 měsíci

    I know that you can, but I question why? The engine was designed to run with three exhaust pipes, probably to run into a common collider/ heat exchange/ muffler unit. The idea of running an aircraft engine in an automobile is a recurring theme in custom cars, I can see the novelty of that. But hanging feet of “extra “ pipes I can’t grasp. And the torque of the engine will be trying to reposition the pipes, allowing everything to place undesired pressure on the joints. I figure that you are the designer and have a great answer for this misunderstanding soul?

    • @wrstew1272
      @wrstew1272 Před 4 měsíci

    You doubled your exhaust capacity by making six pipes, so you could reduce it with those beveled washers and it wouldn’t really hurt your horsepower any.

    Hi Jordan, very nice motor, I like it. What do you think how adjust the valves? The exhaust-pipes seems to be a problem. As well the heat in the engine-compartment will be very high by running the motor.. Is there a fan for cooling the cylinders in future or a oil-cooler to bring down the temp.
